Love that these 8-12 page stories usually have a nice lasting impact on me after reading them.

This is basically just expanding Hunter Rose's story plus the lore and other characters around them. Just a great way to go about giving context to certain scenes while also getting different points of views on different events. If anything this makes me think of how much a piece of shit Hunter really was, but in the best possible way.

This one was a little more uneven than the last.

A few weaker stories, one big one was a 7 part random storylines that had very little to do with Grendel for me. But I did enjoy that they gave a lot more focus on Wolfy and Stacy. Got to know them more and see their part in Grendel's overall life that worked well.

Art sometimes amazing, sometimes weak, but overall solid.

The first story that's one big storyline.

This time we have Grendel feeling something is following him throughout his adventures of murdering people. Then have a detective on the case of Grendel hunting him. We also have a news reporter doing the same. All three of them intertwine, and of course we know this won't have a very happy ending. Brutal, noir style storytelling, with a absolutely sad as hell ending.

This was fucking awesome.

Miguel is a genius when it comes to scientific stuff but he also has a ton of baggage with him mentally. Switch over to something goes wrong and he wants to quit his job, the CEO of that job basically drugs him, and in 2099 some drugs are stuck inside your DNA till you die. So Miguel tries to reverse it but thanks to a "co-worker" of his, he's injected with all the Spider powers they've been trying to develop and BAM. Miguel becomes a mutated creature with Spider like powers.

However, Miguel is far different than Peter. No silly jokes during fights. He does kill if needed, and honestly he doesn't seem to feel all that bad about it. This futuristic city is far more bleak than modern day. The supporting cast are all interesting, and with their own motivations make for interesting character. The villains, including Vulture were terrifying. The art is great, with some awesome poses as well as some brutal fight scenes and deaths. The overall look of the city adds to the tone really well.

Everything about this works for me. I love different universes that can stand completely on their own. Not since maybe Ultimate universe have I enjoyed a elseworld as much from Marvel.

A dark and, pretty fucked up, collection of stories by the man known as Grendel!

Grendel basically is one of those people who will not accept what life has to give. He takes what he wants, no matter who gets hurt in the process. He murders people he finds fit to be killed, usually working for a mafia family but his true love is just to hurt people. You see it more and more as the series go on and all the blank spots are filled in within the many 7-12 page stories presented here.

The second collection of short stories are a little weaker than the rest of the book but still solid enough, it's the first collection of short stories that really worked for me. Vicious in nature, showing who Grendel was but also building up the tone and overall city feel to his murder spree. Getting to know more and more about Stacey, his daughter, and her ultimate face was both interesting and sad. The wolf was a great advisory to him, even if he wasn't "Good" per say.

Overall, if like fucked up and twisted stories and great world building, this one is a great one to pick up.

Starts off great but manders a little bit too much at the end.

Things I loved was Jen's voice here. Super fun and kind. I also enjoyed the jack of hearts? He was fun to get to know more about and his relationship with Jen was cute. The fight club meet up was a lot of fun too.

But the main plot doesn't move much and when it does it feels very slow. The "Villain" or maybe villain is a odd choice. I just didn't feel they move the main plot much to keep me fully infested.

Overall fun but not great. A 3 or a 3.5 out of 5.

Spider-Woman really has some banger runs.

This one ends in a big fucking battle that's extremely funny but also hits home for a lot of character moments. Basically Jen gets her own group of sinister villains but these guys are idiots. Some really funny moments spark from their arrival to fight our favorite webcrawler, but also Spider-Woman trying to balance being a hero, living her best life, and also being a great mom.

This was a pretty great series, just like the run before it. We need more Spider-Woman in our life. Gives us MORE Marvel!

A 4 out of 5.

A little bit more messy than volume 1 but still enjoyable.

The main story which is 4 issues had Spider-Man trying his best to be a hero for his city. At the same time we have a Greek like mythology figure show up and help Spidy. But that help isn't always that helpful and eventually becomes a kidnapping situation Miguel has to diffuse.

The second half is Unlimited 2099 which is introducing Mutagen. Basically a man who now has the power to mutate his cells and body into anything to help fight back in a situation. This makes for a tough foe for Spidy but this story feels quickly thought-out. The character is cool but the plot gets wrapped up way to quick.

The annual gives a nice insight look into the crazy people that Miguel lives with. Especially the first major story really is messed up but works really well to show how far someone will go to "believe" in someone. Good stuff there.

Overall not as good but still enjoyable. Peter David's issues are mostly great. The Unlimited just decent. A 3.5 out of 5. I'll bump to a 4.

This gets messy with the flal of the hammer storyline crossover.

So prior to the Fall of the Hammer crossover, Miguel is trying his best to balance his life with Spider-Man and his love life. Then his house goes insane and starts to take control. But then we're broken up by the fact The Fall of the Hammer brings together the other 2099 titles like Ravengers, Punisher, Doom, and X-Men. This crossover is just kind of meh, leaving me bored half the time, with a okay ending from Doom himself.

When we get back into Spider-Man's main story we deal alot with his brother and him trying to save him and then also working together with him to fix the home. The issues are a lot of fun and getting Migeul's childhood is also a welcome addition. I enjoyed these parts a lot.

The crossover is 5 issues so sadly it does bring this down. So closer to a 3, maybe 3.5.

With crossovers gone this series gets back to what made it great.

Miguel starts off doing his superheroing business. BUT soon after he's hunted by the sister of the psycho cowboy that came after him at the start of the series. Also add in his brother's girlfriend getting mixed up in all this with her own weapon things get even crazier. Oh, and if that's not crazy enough Miguel finds out the truth about his father, which throws him into a spin. We then have Miguel trying to find himself, visiting old girlfriends, and trying to rediscover what makes it all worth it. Fighting a psycho chucky like Spider-Man mixed with venom type attacks. Working with the future Dr. Strange. So many fun tales.

We also get at the end short little 5-7 page stories of Miguel as a kid I really enjoyed as well.

The art does change, and it takes a bit to get used to, but I still enjoyed it overall. Especially the fight scenes still hit hard, and can be brutal. Though Miguel's mom's design almost completely changes to short and overweight to skinny as a stick haha.

Overall great stuff though. Spider-Man 2099 is becoming a favorite of mine. A 4 out of 5.
