I've been on a haunt to find books in this genre (Thriller/mystery/horror) that match something like Dark Places or Gone Girl from Gillian Flynn. But I can't seem to find something that engrossed me as much.
However, that's not to say this is a bad book.
Basically it opens up with a girl with one eye in a field rescued by a guy who the town believes murdered his own sister and father years ago. When Odette, our main lead for the majority of the book, comes to Wyatt, the man who the town believes is a killer to find out who this girl is, it leads down a path of lies and death.
Odette is a solid lead that basically doesn't trust anyone but also has to deal with the fact she has a relationship she might have ruined while still dealing with her past and Wyatt who she used to the date. The bloody path to the truth leads to a few nice twist.
There's really TWO twist in here. The major twist, the who done it, is extremely easy to guess. In fact I guessed it within the first hour of listening to this book. However, the second twist, which happens a little bit more than half way through the book is a nice shift of narration I didn't see coming and was welcome.
I think the story itself is interesting to keep going even if the plot itself seems to easy to guess, least for me. The characters are all decent, but none really made me care for them in a way I was worried for their safety.
It's a solid who done it murder mystery with slimy ass country folk. So if that's your thing, it's a solid read, just not great.

This was pretty awful If I'm being honest.
The first issue was solid enough, a idea of Bruce "piloting" the hulk like almost mech like is a neat idea. But then we get basically sent to a different universe and it's so over the top and dumb I barely could follow or give a shit about what was happening. I think this series needed to be a lot more grounded and not this zanny weird shit.
Art was great though.

More awesome world building, and Bruce showing how he knows what the fuck to do even when amped up people with Venom in them come at him. Great issue. Robin one is pretty good too for backup story.
A 3.5. Not a bad issue but weaker than prior ones. I do like building out Red Mask but the twist isn't as fun as expected. I do like Tim's backup here a lot, him seeing a certain someone was a great reunion.

Whoa, talk about a turn around. My first volume of [b:Avengers, Vol. 1: The Final Host|39739200|Avengers, Vol. 1 The Final Host|Jason Aaron|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1538413591s/39739200.jpg|61435217] was not good. I just didn't think it contained anything worth really mentioning. Confusing, pacing issues, dialogue issues, and so on. Volume 2? Fixed a lot of that.
So we have more down to earth stories. However, even before we get to that, we have a flashback of one of the first (or maybe the first ever) Ghost Rider. His vehicle? A fucking Mammoth. On top of that, riding on top of the elephant, we meet a familiar face who builds a truce with this old Ghost Rider.
Then we move back to modern day and everyone is doing their team working excerise. It's actually great to have smaller missions where we see the Avengers just being themselves. No huge mystic force or big bad, just heading down to the sea to find out why Namor is angry this time. After learning the truth it starts to become obvious that the Avengers might be in over their head even with one of the most powerful teams ever. When Squadron Supreme come back into play, things get very interesting. ON top of all that Black Panther becomes leader of the Avengers, and begins to gain all the intel he can for what's coming.
Good: Holy smokes Namor is a badass in this. I actually felt and understood his actions here. I'd be pretty fucking mad too. The art flows better here, with much easier fight scenes to follow this time around. How wonderful was it to see some down to earth moments with Robbie, Carol, Thor, and more? All worked well here to get to know them. The pacing and plotting is a lot better than volume 1 too, and even the humor works at times.
Bad: Now, saying that, the humor also feels a bit forced sometimes. Thor seems kind of "dumb as a bag of bricks" in this volume. Which is odd because never felt that way reading Aaron's Thor. I also thought the issue with Black Panther building Intel could have been done in a more interesting way.
This is a huge up from the last. Not perfect, or as epic as Hickman's, but a great surprise. A very high 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

Another decent volume in what should be an amazing Avengers run.
I just don't understand why this run is so average. The idea of having another squad of superheroes to match the Avengers is cool. I mean they are basically the Marvel version of Justice League. Even looks like them. And then on the other side you have some quality time with the Avengers in a hot spring, some flirting, and even some great character building moments. But then get them hooked into the war of the realms plot and that is just...no.
I mean I enjoy the character moments. Jen flirting, Ghost Rider becoming more confident, and even the Supreme Squad of evil Justice League is all cool. But nothing seems to really happen and the realm war stuff is REALLY boring. And felt like just pushed in here for no reason.
Overall decent, fun at times, but not great. A 3 out of 5.

Man we just got Fusion in this bitch.
I loved this. Clea and Dr. Strange back together, fighting for his very soul, against a extremely "surprise" type villain that I won't spoil here. It's a hell of a fight, funny as heck, and a romance that can not be broken between these two crazies. If you like Dr. Strange at it's zanny, mystical, and fun world this series while over now, is a must read.
I hope the new Dr. Strange keeps the fun up.

The ending to this volume also gets more into a horror zone, epic, and then a cliffhanger that will no doubt make you say "Oh come the fuck on" as we all wait for the next volume.
Overall, the series continues to just be highly entertaining. I hope it continues to do so.
