This has to be one of the most baffling Batman stories ever in terms of quality. There's things I LOVE here. I would even say has some of the best Batman moments I've read in forever...and then some of the worst. What a weird back and forth I was having here.
This collection mostly deals with the War Games. It's brutal, vicious, ugly cycle of death this book carries on that actually works really well for suspense. Batman is getting screwed pretty much every turn he makes. Just when you think he's making some leeway into winning his city back it gets a lot worse for him. I loved seeing him struggle yet still keep his composure up so well. I really enjoy seeing all of the Batfamily working either together or on their own. I liked the feel of losing for our heroes, the pacing was sporadic (well till the last 4 issues when it was the "Conclusion" issues of war games). The art is mostly solid too. Black Mask was a vicious and evil piece of shit that was interesting to see him take center stage.
Now on the flipside we have Black Mask as a fun villain but the story has him basically beat mostly women and also have him wear ACTUAL black face. Which is...questionable to say the least. Also on top of that we have Bruce being extremely rude to his people, but mostly to the women. He even throws a line out with "you scream like a girl" which feels...shitty? I'm not one to let older comics get to me too much but it was pretty silly and stupid to have these lines when the women in here saved his ass so many times. It just rubbed me the wrong way. Also the final twist is stupid and is retconned a few years later.
I have to say it's such a mix bag. I really did enjoy 70% of what I was reading. I had a lot of fun. I felt the last few issues dragged on and didn't add much. The big twist was also stupid as fuck. But I did have fun watching Batman get cornered so much and him basically losing ground quicker than he could gain it.
A 3.5 out of 5.

A fun mix of cool and interesting stories dragged down by a shitty crossover.
You have the New Mutants doing some cool missions including bringing Blink into the fold, one of them going on a date with the devil, and discovering a secret underground lab torturing Cable. So all of this was pretty fun. The shitty crossover of "Fear Itself" ruins the momentum and adds NOTHING to the story or characters. Why even have this?
But overall if want chilled laid back X-Men adventures with the young mutants of that era, this was pretty solid fun. 3 out of 5.

What happens when you go to a town and can't...well...die?
This town is at a standstill. In stillwater you go, and you can get shot, punched, kicked, head chopped off, and so on and still survive. Little did Daniel know that when he entered this town it wouldn't be the FIRST time he's been there. What seems like a town filled with secrets is...well a town filled with secrets.
Chip is a pretty great writer. Almost all his Marvel work has been top notch. So I was pretty excited to try this one on. And the first two issues worked really well for me. Then the consistant switch from years started to get annoying and I didn't need every single plot point filled to get the idea of what is happening in this town. I did enjoy the dialogue, as it is solid, but the characters didn't really get me interested. I especially didn't like Daniel much.
Saying that, I will probably check out volume 2. The art and story are good enough to keep me intrigued but it was a bit of a letdown. A 3 out of 5.

So Kazuya just got dumped by his girlfriend and he feels pretty shitty. We've all been there, haven't we? So what is his next step? To rent a girlfriend of course!
Renting a girlfriend is basically having a girlfriend show you off. Walk around, go on dates, but nothing beyond that. No sex, no real contact, no happy endings. This is just to make you feel better about yourself by dating someone even if you're paying them to do so. It's pretty simple idea, and it somehow works, and it helps Kazuya is a pretty funny protagonist here. I really enjoyed the situations he and the girl got into, and I also loved his Grandma, she was the star of this manga in terms of comedy.
I did feel bad for the main girl because of how annoying Kazuya can come across. Always begging for her to do things and she gets suckered into it. I actually like the fact she has a backbone and doesn't wanna deal with his bullshit half the time. Makes for a much funnier and better duel protagonist.
Overall fun, cheerful, and cute manga with some good moments. I'll be grabbing volume 2.

Alien (2021-2022) #1
Inhyuk Lee, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Salvador Larroca
A nice slow burn. We get to know a little of the past, what happened to a crew who went on a mission and ran into some Xenomorphs. The rest of the issue really deals with a broken relationship between a father and son. And it all links to the horrific ending where people try to do things they have no clue what they're doing.
Overall, this is a solid entry into the Alien world for Marvel. While not great, and some of the art feels stiff, it seems like a interesting direction. A 3 out of 5.

Batman: Detective Comics, Vol. 5: The Joker War
Eduardo Risso, Burnham Chris, Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Walker, Kenneth Rocafort, James Tynion IV, Mariko Tamaki
I really like Tomasi's work usually but this isn't doing it for me at all.
While first few issues deal with the fallout of Alfred's death and works well, the rest is kind of typical Batman adventure stopping two face and the Joker. Neither storyline is really interesting and nothing new happens. I feel like Tomasi maybe was just putting in work to get paid at this point with the exception of the first two issues (One partially written by James).

Ah the big moving in chapter in life. It's always scary and always interesting. Meeting the friends...the big one.
I can't stress enough how amazing this series is. The relationship is one of the best I've seen. Filled with REAL issues not fake dramatic bullshit. Sexy parts that help enhance the story. The pacing is perfect, jumping into a new problems the right way. This is easily one of the best romantic manga if not THE best I've ever read.

He said it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay we're getting into the real shit now. I loved this volume because it dealt with personal feelings and how you see yourself vs how people might feel about you. A great look into two minds of characters who are gay and deal with worrying what others will think of them as. The last two chapters are intense and the ending...oh man.
I really think Blue Flag is an amazing series and I hope it gets a proper anime one day.

Okay this was better than the last volume as the Leader gets to outsmart everyone.
This volume is far more focused with watching the Hulk losing himself to the Leader. The Leader is back and with a vegence as he goes after everyone who is near the Hulk. In doing so he's able to get close enough to finally take down the hulk or least one of the hulks inside the big green monster. But can he finish off the hulk completely? Who will stand up to a creature who can control you?
This was horrific in watching many people getting deformed and destroyed and I loved that part. Hulk is pushing body horror and doing it so well. On top of that, any time we get inside the Hulk's mind it's always interesting and trippy so I want more of that. Leader is vicious and a piece of shit so he's a perfect villain for the big green monster too.
Overall, a far stronger arc this time around leading to a ending that leaves me asking, where do we go from here? A 4 out of 5.

First two (maybe even 3) issues were fantastic. Funny, joyful, loved every moment of Jessica snappy comebacks and her being a badass.
The last two issues got so convoluted and weird about her past I actually was a bit at a loss for words on even what the fuck was happening. The very ending started fixing up and maybe we'll get more Jessica the supermom adventures cause I miss that adorable child.
For the first 3 issues - 4.5 out of 5. Last two - 2 out of 5. So about a 3.
