Ehhhhhh thankfully this series ends next issue. This was boring, all over the place, and nonsensical now. The whole villain's reasoning is stupid as shit, and Ben doesn't get any character growth. A 2 out of 5 mostly for the art.
This is my first AwA book and damn, Percy knocked it out the park.
So remember world war z? Not the movie but the book. This is very similar. Take a bunch of different characters and give their prospective of the zombie outbreak. But that's not a brand new idea, we've seen that before. But this book does it where each two pages we switch to the other protagonist in this series. So this gives Percy a job to get me invested in characters in basically 4 pages per issue. Not easy, huh?
But somehow he makes it work.
We have the first few pages opening with how the virus began, or where it came from. A scientist explaining she was trying to get away from civilization but instead might have caused the end of it by finding a body in the ice. Of course this body leads to the first outbreak. We then get to know 4 very different stories. One about a boy trying to survive in the streets of Mexico while also getting his revenge from his parents being killed. An assassin losing someone close to him and trying to find peace. Another about woman who were abused and treated like shit their whole life not fighting back. And last but not least a crazy conspiracy theory guy who knew the zombie outbreak would be coming and prepared himself.
I believe almost all the stories are interesting. For me the least interesting if I'm being honest is the boy in Mexico. I just don't find him as compelling. And while I love the start of the woman in Afghanistan, I'm not sure where it's going. The assassin's story is fast paced and fun, the scientist is filled with dread, and then the best is the overweight conspiracy guy who just makes you laugh.
I'm excited to dive deeper into this world, this is a great first volume.

A series that turned from a High School Vampire story to a full blown recovery story about PTSD and violent attacks. Holy shit, Oshimi is growing as a writer for sure.
As we saw in the last volume Gosho is now trying to live her life out as a independent woman working a 9-5. But one of her coworkers cares deeply about her and decides to ask her out. But as he gets to know her she stumbles on a newspaper about the vampire who slashed her neck prior and almost ended her life. She goes into a full blown nervous breakdown and this volume is about her recovery with the help of a friend.
If you told me this manga would move me by volume 6 I'd call you a liar. It's not that volume 1-3 are bad, they're good, but this feels like a way different story. This is a more mature look at recovering and finding happiness in the darkest days. So will Gosho be able to do that? To move on? To live her life? The way we all should when horrible shit happens to us in the past? Easier said than done, isn't it?
Happiness volume 6 might be the best volume in the sense of character growth and even character relationship. Sure, we don't move the plot forward for other characters and such but Gosho we move mountains of character development to get to know her and how she'll survive.
I loved this volume. A 5 out of 5.

My Boy continues to be a interesting character study of people so lonely that a single person can fill this life even with boring things like playing soccer.
With Satoko now meeting Mashuu's father things are getting worse and worse. At first she promises nothing else is happening but practicing and the father even agrees that would be okay. But what happens when Satoko stops and forgets to mention something? Everything falls apart.
I really enjoyed the reality of the situation. Darker than I expected and even a timeskip comes along. I'm excited to see where we go and as long as the series maintains a interesting storyline with this great art, and solid dialogue. I'm in it for the long run.

Jesus, I love this fucking manga.
The family of Loid, Yor, and Anya make their way into school as Anya is finally accepted. But now it is the mind reader's mission to infiltrate her classmates and get close. But if you think adults are assholes with bad thoughts, kids are even worse. Loid worries for his daughter and her capability to get close to the boy that will lead him to his target. Yuri is worried about being a good mother. Together they must come together to make Anya the best student ever!
So we slowdown on the action and get a ton more comedy and I love it. Anya might be the most adorable Lolz character ever. She always makes me smile, laugh, or cheer. Loid is a badass dad and I love his thought process. Yor is scary as hell but she's so loving to Anya it's adorable. The only thing I didn't love was the special chapter but the main story was amazing. Give me more.

A pretty solid finish to the past and learning about the amulet and what happened but felt like more world building.
Ah back to issue 2 quality. Joker gets what he wants while superman and lois visit midnight to get confirmation. The ending is fucked...this should be good.
This is getting close to when Dixon leaves the Batman main title and just writes Nightwing/Robin. And you can tell why editorial might have given him the boot.
It's not to say these are awful stories. Some are pretty solid. The best one in the collection would probably be Knight out for being silly but fun and the Final Night tie in which shows off Gotham in a different way but also Robin, Huntress, and Batman. The others, especially the riddler story, range from decent to bad. I really think this series was missing direction and went for a more Saturday morning cartoon feel but without the fun part.
Overall, this is probably Dixon weakest Batman collection to date. While I enjoyed moments I can't say any will stick with me. Even Legacy, the second weakest of Dixon stuff, has something that this was missing. Maybe Urgency, or stakes, but either way this one failed to deliver either.
A 2.5 out of 5.

Hack/Slash remains to be a fun, if not stupid, but enjoyable series.
Cassie gets more character development here as she learns to deal with PTSD, gaining and losing friends, dealing with the fallout of her father, and revisiting hurt memories of her mother. This is all actually the good part and really enjoyable part of the series. Even some of the jokes are pretty funny and I love Vlad.
But then we get to the really dumb parts like suicide girl story of a guy in a computer killing girls. And the villains don't really strike fear in my heart, they all just seem kind of dull and stupid. The pacing can be quick or it can feel like it's dragging on due to extra subplots of characters that really aren't that interesting.
Overall though for Halloween month, this isn't horrible. A fun bloody time that can sit back and enjoy reading. Just don't expect great things. A 3 out of 5.

This is a perfect example I'll use in the future when I say I can read a comic with not great art but a great story but I can't do the other way around.
And let me be fair and say I think it's the art style I just don't jive with. It has a weird sketchy, weird faces, lack of emotion that I just don't like. It doesn't help that the environments look rough as hell too. But this is by the same artist as "The Few" and I hated that one because I couldn't tell what the fuck was happening. This is an improvement.
But the story by Michael Moreci elevates this A LOT. This is a story of a man who has given up on just about everything. He once had everything since he was in touch with the prophet, and Billy here said he saw the future. However, when everything went to shit he kind of died away in the corner of the galaxy never to be seen again. That's until a girl comes into his life and can also see the future...things are about to get messy.
This is fun, chaotic, and zanny yet I loved almost every minute. Billy Bane is one likable asshole as is the rest of the cast. No one is perfect, and that makes it realistic, and super enjoyable. The pacing is quick, and at times though the wording can get long-winded, when it hits it works like magic.
I was really impressed with this volume and will be getting volume 2 for sure. Vault is kicking butt. A 4 out of 5.
