Green Lantern: Rise of the Third Army
Doug Mahnke, Peter J. Tomasi, Fernando Pasarín, Geoff Johns, Peter Milligan, Miguel Sepúlveda, Tony Bedard, Aaron Kuder
Pretty solid event dragged down a bit by having too many crossover books into one.
Crossovers are meant to push new storylines for the future. They're also a tool companies use to sell more issues of a series not doing too well. I don't know how well Red Lantern was selling at this point but I really wish they weren't in this collection.
Basically you have the main green lantern story focus on Simon and how he becomes a Green Lantern. This is really solid stuff. Then you have the Green Lantern Corps mostly focused on Guy, and his decent into near madness when losing his crew and ring. Then have New Guardians dealing with all the other ring weilders, and more importantly, Kyle's ascending to a new form. Last you have Red Lanterns who basically just yell at each other and do nada.
I enjoyed the Green Lantern stuff alot. Probably most of all I enjoyed Green Lantern Corps stuff because of Guy's fall and push back. John is in the background too but you can feel he'll be bringing some big stuff soon. Kyle's story seems distant from the rest but it's great to see him become a badass once more. Red Lanterns story is pretty meh.
Overall a 3.5 out of 5.

Man this is one weird fucking series yet I think it might be Oshimi's best.
Our main character, Okazaki, is determined to save his friend. So he does...but how does he come back after being bite by a vampire? Well we all know that one. On top of that we get a secret organization trying to hunt down Okazaki and it looks like other vampires. While not as say action packed as the last volume it still has a lot of nice little twist and turns. I can't really tell where we're going in this story but that makes me excited. A 4 out of 5.

I had to look up who Vulcan even was. Another brother of Scott? What in the flying fuck?
But somehow this was really fun. Vulcan is on the moon with his two girls just trying not to be bored. Having horrible flashbacks of what happened to him. But then he goes walking on the moon and the planet creatures from Empyre attack. So he must fight back. This leads into the Empyre event but also reads pretty solid by itself. A 3.5 out of 5. I'll push it to a 4.

Marvel sure is creating some solid events. Both War of Realms and Absolute Carnage were a pleasure to read. So far, Empyre is shaping up to be the same.
After we learn some backstory here and what these plant people have been planning we see the Avengers and Fantastic four strike back. Lots of cool twist and turns, some great "oh shit moments" and a ending that is building up nicely. Count me aboard the hype train to this event. A 4 out of 5.

This is by far my favorite X-Men series now.
I mean I was laughing so much at some parts. Getting to see these misfits work together is wonderful. Zeb Wells knows how to let jokes just slide out and hit. Plenty of great moments, including one of nana trying to take care of a member, someone getting shot in the head, and a vicious attack from the original Marauders! I'm LOVING this series.

Empyre heats up as everyone moves forward with their plot. Captain Marvel tries to figure out with Teddy what to do next. Wakanda is in the hands of their king as he pushes forward. The Skrull might have an alternative motive. So much is happening, so much moving pieces, it's about to come to a boil. A 3.5 out of 5.
The end to a crazy ass run, Priest mostly delivers even if uneven like the run itself.
So last we saw Slade was dead. The volume starts with basically his funeral. BUt then slade returns to life and goes after a innocent(ish) character we've all come to love (and semi-hate) right away. Then...another slade appears? And this volume mostly deals with the kids dealing with their dead father, who's a piece of shit anyway, and they work through their feelings.
It's crazy, wonky, some bullshit reasons why people come back, but all in all it's fun. Watching two slades is probably the best part about this book. While not always amazing Priest run was interesting to say the least. Sad to see him go! A 3.5 out of 5.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Volume 7: City Fall, Part 2
Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Bobby Curnow
This was pretty damn cool to see Leo as a "bad" guy.
Shredder does work as he turns the city upside down and takes control. If that's not bad enough he has complete control of Leo as his weapon and then his Daughter is just as vicious as he is. So the brothers have to band together with a unlikely ally to somehow save their brother and also the city at the same time.
I enjoyed this volume a lot. Mostly thanks to see the brothers all get to shine in their own way, even my boy Mikey. Also Splinter gets to show off his moves and he ain't playing. Leo's decent into semi-madness and his crawl back is great. This is also a darker chapter as a few characters die here. Overall very satisfying arc. a 4 out of 5.

Gideon falls steps into the horror genre harder this volume as the "creature" or "demon" finally makes its move.
This feels like a season 1 finale as all our heroes finally get to meet up. A lot of questions are answered, especially for our young Garbage collector as he confronts the demon trying to meet with him. But the priest and his new sidekick aren't dealing with this demon and his bullshit any longer. And just when shit is really about to go down something major happens to lead on to the next event/arc here.
Overall, Gideon fall is one of the strangest comics I read because it's confusing, hard to recommend what it is about, but it's always entertaining. Love the art, the characters, and the dialogue, even if I'm lost half the time. A 4 out of 5.

Jesus christ...
This volume goes real dark as one of the vampires can't control any of their urges. THe start is brutal, the middle is disgusting, the ending is sad and disturbing. What will happen when we lose control of yourself and give into the urges while the other fights to stay good? I'm really digging this series even if you can read them in 10 minutes. A 4 out of 5.
