Like most of Millar's stuff nowadays this is just decent.

After 15+ years of waiting we get the second of the three part series of American Jesus. After the twist of the last one you'd expect them to go back to that character but instead we get a brand new character. I actually enjoyed the idea here, as a new character who is the new "Jesus" can counteract what happened in the last volume. So the idea was solid and the art was decent.

But the dialogue is all over the place. Outdated slang at parts, super rushed execution for the 2nd half, and the villains be...well shit to be blunt.

So overall a decent action followup to the 1st book but nothing special. Hopefully ends good.

Tokyo Ghoul is ramping up as this volume hits all the right beats.

Kankei has to make a decision. To help the ones he used to love and care for, or help his new friends. It seems like a simple choice but in reality it's a lot more complicated. He's been through hell, and now he has to decide if he's ready to let it all go. On top of that we have a great prison break action volume here with plenty of "holy shit" moments. Also, poor Misaki is going through the worst punishment ever right now.

This is a dark and fucked up volume. Plenty of horrible things happen to people we care about. What I enjoyed most were the flashbacks, really helped build emotion for this volume. The fights this time around are brutal and far more "screwed up" with slicing and dicing body parts. While the end gives hope, this is a hard volume to get through, but in the best possible way.

This is the strongest volume yet of RE. A 4.5 out of 5.

Jeff Lemire takes the atmosphere of Alien and puts it into the world of these kids trying to survive against both machine and humans.

That's what the story boils down to. Survival and taking care of one another. Similar themes and story beats from Descender, but that's okay, because that series was amazing. Lemire gets to tell a twisted story of redemption and courage while also dealing with loss. On top of that the art is solid as can be and really captures the atmosphere. The ending is slightly abrupt but the rest is great.

While not a homerun like Erased (please watch or read that one) this one is still intriguing. With a teen trying to get revenge on a killer who murdered his whole family he's hellbent on living a tough life. But when his scheme backfires will it end badly for him?

I enjoyed this one for its mysterious storyline and some surprising twist. The art is also really solid. I don't love any of the characters though and it seems like it can go only so many places. Not in love with it but intrigued enough to read another volume.

Oh man some major moments and major players taken out here. I can't even go into too much detail without spoilers but the showdown against the CGC and Kankei comes to a head. The reveal of the one eyed king is here. We learn what RE means. Oh so much fantastic stuff int his volume and the best to date for Tokyo Ghoul RE.

The end finishes off similiar to the main series. Deaths you expect coming, some not so much, bitter sweet in a lot of ways, and plenty of carnage mixed with some hopefulness. I can't wait for the full on sequel, Taylor is on top of his game right now.

Harley being her crazy ass self taking our assholes. It's over the top, fun, but also silly. I'm not a huge fan of Harley and how she teams up with most of the birds is really weird, but it's overall a easy read with some fun moments including a great Power Girl bonding moment. A 3 out of 5.

Finally we end the tournament arc and get to the brand new one never animated!

The first half is the end of the tournament and it's pretty intense. A way different ending than the anime in how the good guys win. I actually really enjoyed the loss of certain characters since they made more sense than the anime. Maybe not as epic ending but still really good.

Then we move on to a new enemy. A mystery goat looking guy with magic decides to revive himself in the modern day age. But his mission is slightly unclear. He wants the dragon balls but what else does he want? Vegeta and Goku go to stop him but maybe the two strongest warriors aren't enough?

The first half is good, but the second half is great. Plenty of suspense, interesting ideas, and funny moments. Super returns strong in this volume and I want more. A 4 out of 5.

Family Tree is Lemire's newest creator owned comic and it's about as good as all his stuff.

This is about a family on the run after one of the children is becoming an actual tree. With her mom and brother protecting her, and now her grandfather, we learn there's a cult like group following them and trying to kill them. While it sounds like pure action packed adventure it's actually pretty emotional and touching family moments that make this special.

While not my favorite work Lemire has done he still somehow makes me like all the characters introduced here. The pacing is quick and exciting and that's a huge plus. I didn't love the art though and the action scenes suffer for it.

While not the best, it's still worth reading. A 3.5 out of 5.

Ohhhh a twist as we meet demons who aren't trying to eat our heroes every second of the day.

This is where we get a lot of world building. Learning about what happened, what this place is, and how it connects to even the title of the manga. I really enjoyed Ray and Emma's growth here, and the surprises and twist actually felt real this time. Learning about this demonic world and the future for them was interesting. Some really good action scenes here too with brutal outcomes.

I hope this series continues to be a delightful surprise since I'm enjoying the mystery a lot. Less death note now and more survival of the fittest. I'm digging it. A 4 out of 5.
