The kids have escape one hell hole but what awaits them on the outside?
Kaiu Shrai (the author) has a mission to keep up the frantic pacing with trails for the kids to overcome. It's not easy once you leave the orphanage since that was the unique setting for the kids to escape. But you also can't stay stuck in there forever because it would seem silly for kids this smart never to get out. However, now the author has to create creatures and environmental dangers to keep the kids on their feet and keep us entertain. I'd say the author largely succeeds there.
Let me state the negative is basically the fact the kids aren't being chased by a grown person, and in doing so you lose some of the drama and fun. However, everything else still works. The art is crazy good. The chase scenes are breathtaking. The monsters are scary. Everything still works on this chase adventure.
I'm hoping it keeps up. For now it's still great. A 4 out of 5.

This was one of the most batshit insane comics I read in awhile. It was like Wanted, if wanted was half way decent.
So this book is just filled with mostly pieces of shit trying to kill each other. Everyone is out to get everyone and right from the start you have a guy's nose getting chopped off, brothers killing brothers, a blond superhero action hero blowing shit up, and a back and forth between a old white guy and a old white lady that'll pretty much make fun of whichever party you find yourself apart of. Whats this all add to? Insanity, but super entertaining.
I was having a ball reading this. Most characters die in shocking ways, Kirkman is known for it. The art gets to show those off well, and we get plenty of it. The pacing is frantic, and I love that. Never dull. The dialogue ranges from interesting to downright stupid, but in the best way. My only negative really is sometimes it's HEAVY dialogue for no real reason. Kirkman does this in a lot of his comics though.
Overall though, this was a fun surprise. A 4 out of 5.

Power of X builds upon the story, showing Sinister in all his glory. The first half is actually pretty great to get to see Hickman's take on Sinister, a long time villain of the X-Men world. The rest of the issue deals with the build towards what the X-men plan on doing to prevent the terrible future that is to come but it's not as captivating as the last two issues. Overall still solid. A 3 out of 5.
I love these big collections but also at times they feel so disconnected because of new "directions" without letting us know.
So first half is Nightwing having to go through prison and help a bunch of villains survive while also not getting killed. It's nothing new but it's damn sure fun. The later half deals a lot more with Nite-Wing, which is both fun and exciting. Dick is more open to a sidekick than Batman and tries a different style. But the Nite-Wing character is unhinged to say the least.
The first half feels like what volume 1-4 were. Very over stylistic art and fun nightwing adventure. The second half has all new art and feels a lot more down to earth and a bit grittier. This might have been leading up to things like Identity crisis and such, but the tone shifts for sure. That isn't to say it's bad, I like the 2nd half a lot, but it feels disjointed. Overall though, Dixon still does the character justice.
The weakest plotline is probably the Oracle one. While interesting I never felt she was in danger.
Overall, this is easily the best Nightwing run for me still. A 4 out of 5.

Returning to comics that got me into comics, Ultimate X-Men volume 2 is actually better than the first volume.
This volume is mainly a division of Shield who hates mutants decides to kidnap the X-Men. They already have some weapon X such as Sabertooth, rogue, and nightcrawler. But they want wolverine back and his new group of friends. So what do they do? They go into the mansion and take what they want.
This is pretty entertaining. I really liked the fact the X-Men are really inexperienced here and lose rather quickly to the military group. Then becoming basically weapons for them is a interesting take and lets some characters grow. Sure the dialogue is still honky at times thanks to Edgy Millar, but he makes the pacing move quick and the fun happens.
Not amazing but entertaining. A 3.5 out of 5.

Blood of the dragon ain't playing, there's a shit load of deaths in this one.
Oliver goes back to Japan after something happens to Shado. When a kid goes missing they both team up to take care of the bad guys. And this isn't a normal team up beat up bad guys, this is slaughtering them all to get the baby back. Then we have another story of a young girl who is claimed to be a witch. And last but not least a mystery figure goes into Green Arrow's city but the bad guys think he is Oliver and try to kill him. So he decides to pay Oliver a visit.
The first story is great revenge tale. Fast paced, brutal, and well drawn. The witch story is okay, some cool ideas, but not one I'll remember probably. The last story isn't great but it's really fun. Mostly thanks to Oliver and Dinah relationship shown here. Overall, this is a really solid collection of stories this time around.
A 4 out of 5 all together.

Man it's been so long since I oringally read this, I was probably only around 13 or so when this first came out. Knowing more about the history of the X-Men I actually really enjoyed this volume.
This starts off a two parter of Gambit and his adventures as a bum. This is mostly about him protecting a little girl from pieces of shit on the street. Then the main story, World Tour, is about Xavier taking his group of X-Men around the world while promoting his new book. Then, out of nowhere, we focus on David who is Xavier's son. If you didn't know, and back then I didn't, David (who also is known as Legion) is EXTREMELY powerful mutant. And so the X-Men must face him but David ain't playing around.
The pacing is insane here, with plenty of storylines all being told at once. I also loved the action here, very high end and exciting. Watching David do horrible things to each of the X-Men was scary and fun. I also think the ending was really well told and helped build Magneto and Xavier relationship. I will say the worst part was the unnecessary focus on woman getting half naked or clothes ripped off. I didn't need a Psylock bra shot at all here.
But overall, this was pretty fun. I can see why I enjoyed this as much as I did as a teenager. A 4 out of 5.

This was okay.
I waited a long time for this because I figured this was a Superman event since both his current books state "follow the events of Leviathan to know what happens" but Superman is kind of just a plot point. This is really a Batman book, with Lois Lane and Green arrow as the main support cast. Saying that, the start is actually pretty good. We have this mysterious Leviathan character murdering and kidnapping main players, people who have been keeping secrets from the world, and forcing their secrets out or taking them out completely. Even Batman is stumped here and needs some of the best detective minds to help him figure this one out.
Overall, it's a find mystery story with a okay reveal. The reveal is better if you read Manhunter series in 2006 (which btw it is great, go read it) but saying that the story focus seems...well unfocused. It doesn't really have a ending but just more set up. I did appreciate we have a big confrontation without some big fight but still...this was just decent. A set up event it felt like. A 2.5-3 out of 5.

I'm not going to lie. I think...I'm just not a Gillen fan. None of his comics ever blew me away and this is pretty boring if I'm being honest. A retelling, or a re-imagined world with the knights of the round-table, but I couldn't give two shits if I'm being honest. The art was good though.
