Finished off my reading day strong with this one. X-Force is back and better than ever under Percy.
After a horrible attack that leaves one of the main X-Men characters killed, the X-Men start to build a new X-Force. In the past volumes it was always a no-no for a lot of X-Men to even agree with X-Force. In here? We have Xavier and Beast signing on as "yes let's do this" and basically this is CIA X-Men story...and I kind of love it?
What starts off as an attack, become a rescue mission, and then a retallation tale in these six issues. I was glued to each page as it was exciting and fun. The art helps build a darker, more vicious X-Men story too. I loved the team dynamic and while not as strong as say Remender's run yet on that, it can shape up nicely. Also, beast my dude, you have fucked up. This should be good.
A super easy 4 out of 5.

I really dislike most Phoenix stuff, and the Hellfire club is shit in any version.
There's stuff I liked here like Kitty, she's awesome. I also actually like Cyclops and Wolverine's little spats. Beast getting shitted on at the end and kind of "mind rape" was fucked up. But honestly, all the Jean stuff was boring and flat and took up about half the book. Still fun for the other half though but not as good as volume 2 and 3.

Dr. Stone decides to focus only on Senku and his new adventure in a new village.
After meeting a bunch of new characters we get to see that Senku isn't the ONLY one with a scientific mind. However, what's great is most of the new characters we meet are from the new age, so their awe and amazement with Senku building new things is really charming and fun. This is Senku trying his best to build a new civilization, and damn it, after this volume I believe he could do it.
I really did enjoy this volume. While I feel some of the plot is a bit delayed here, atleast for the other characters, it's nice to learn so much in a single volume. It's like I'm in science class but with a lot of great characters. I loved the ending too and this can lead to some big things. I wonder if there will be a war of sorts.

Uncanny Avengers, Vol. 5: AXIS Prelude
Rick Remender, Sanford Greene, Paul Renaud, Cullen Bunn, Gabriel Hernández Walta, Daniel Acuña, Salvador Larroca
This was okay after 4 fantastic volumes.
The thing is this isn't really a Uncanny Avengers story. Half of it is based on Magneto and his part in leading up to Axis. On the flipside you have a annual which is more of a joke, but it is pretty funny at points. Then there is two issues of Uncanny Avengers, and while I wish it was a actual ending, it instead leads to Axis which I haven't read yet.
This is 100% a set up book. Nothing horrible but nothing great. It's just what leads to Axis, the big event Rick handles. I've heard Axis is the reason Rick Remender left marvel and you can tell he had BIG plans for Uncanny X-Men but Marvel just HAD to have an event.
A 2.5 out of 5.

Last Knight is the "final" part of Snyder's batman run. Till that new metal part 2 event comes.
I thank Snyder for getting me into batman. His new 52/black mirror run made me a Batman fan and then read all the older Batman and newer stuff too. So he'll always be cool in my book.
But his recent Batman output has been meh. Some good stuff like Batman who Laughs worked but Metal, No justice, and even his Justice League and All Star Batman vary from shit to okay.
Anyway, enough rambling. You wanna know what I think of Last Knight on Earth? Well, it's not bad.
Basically it starts off with Bruce in Arkham and you believe he has gone crazy. That the whole Batman thing was all in his head. This has been done a million times in movies and TV shows and comics but it's no different here. Except Snyder quickly says fuck that and we get thrown into a world that is broken and Batman, with his trusty sidekick Joker, go on a epic adventure to try and "fix" the world.
It's not bad. I actually liked Bruce and Joker her.e They were pretty funny together. I also thought the art was good and the scenery and mad max type world was fun. I liked a lot of the redesigns too and some horror elements worked well here. But that's the thing. The story itself feels safe, easy, and not something that blew me away. It's missing the "whoa" factor that I know Snyder can produce. Also, the ending is weirdly placed and feels disconnected from the rest.
Is it bad? Hell no. Is it great? Eh...not really. But it's good. A 3 out of 5.

The war of X-Men verse AVENGERS! I mean Ultimates!
So Magneto is a real piece of shit. After getting his memories back he decides to tell the world they're super fucked. So Xavier goes into hiding with his X-Men to try and get him back. At the same time Nick Fury assembles is Ultimates team to hunt down Magneto and slap a little sense into him. In doing so we have X-Men and Ultimates going head to head mostly because Magneto is pulling all the right strings.
This was a lot better than the last volume. A lot more fun with some great fights. Ever wanna see Wolverine take on the Ultimates/Avengers and fuck some shit up? He does some narly shit here that I loved. Oh and also we all know Wolverine did some sneaky shit to Cyclops, it's pretty screwed up how manipulative he is here. Also, Magneto as a villain is pretty cool here, he's super strong.
My re-read of the Ultimate X-Men universe has been pretty fun tus far. A 4 out of 5.

All the fractions make their moves. Major characters get attacked, others killed, others having new plans coming up. At this point this is so deep I can barely type a review without spoilers but let's just say Death takes a small break and everyone else is on edge of it and may die!
Magneto is back and he's making sure everyone pays.
With the X-Men without their leaders (Xavier and Cyclops) they do their best to prove they are still the good guys. On the flipside you have Magneto starting basically a new world, readying himself to kill billions of humans once more. Then have Xavier locked up making his moves, doing his best to try to help his X-Men. You also get to find out what happened with Cyclops and Wolverine back on the island.
This is pretty long volume...abit too long. This is Millar's last volume and I'm assuming he was trying his best to do a grand epic closure. Honestly though there was some padding here. Having Magneto tell his plan out was a bit boring for the 3rd time. And the X-Men made moves so slow it was weird. But when things did get going it was alot of fun. Mostly thanks to someone returning, a new x-Men member, and more. I wouldn't say it's the best ending but a solid ending for Millar's run. A 3.5 out of 5.

This is kind of a sequel but not really?
It just is continuing the story from the last volume. Mark now runs the show and his mom is in the middle of nowhere with her lover training a new kid to be a killer. The story in town with Mark is the more interesting one and how they're going to deal with the future is interesting. The story with the mom is decent but the ending kind of annoyed me cause felt like a step backwards. a 3.5 out of overall though.

Bendis takes over Ultimate X-Men and right away you can tell the "fuck you" everyone originally had and was acting is nearly gone.
The main theme of this volume is Logan. From someone shooting him up at a restruant, to going to Spider-man for help, to teaming up with Daredevil, and eventually learning who is hunting him. It's all based on Logan and his idea of how to atone for his sins. On top of that you have some cool reveals and plot progression for characters like Jean and Xavier.
I mostly enjoyed this a lot. Smaller in scale, but that's why it worked so well. It helped this was Bendis in his prime and he added both Spider-man and Daredevil, both characters even Bendis haters agree he got right. I also enjoyed a lot of the jokes here unlike Millar's run. My only downside was it felt a bit forced on the crossover.
Overall though very enjoyable. Hoping to see more good from this run! A 4 out of 5.
