I'm convinced Ahmed should helm all the teen heroes because he does such a good job.
With Ms. Marvel trying to live her life as a superhero and a normal teen, she hits a crossroads. Her father finds out she's a superhero and as expected it doesn't go well. On top of that she's dealing with such bent up frustration in her love life. But now she's transported to a new world because she might be the only hope they have to survive. What will she choose?
This volume's main plot is the least interesting part. The creatures who need her help aren't all that interesting. Saying that Ms. Marvel is written super well, she's funny, and kind. The fights are entertaining. Her interactions with her family and friends is perfect. And the ending is both sad and beautifully done.
Not sure where we will go from here, but I'm digging it. A 4 out of 5.

Goku and co are in for the fight of their lives!
So this is wildly different than the anime. Much quicker paced and far more interesting fights. Watching Kale verse Gohan is great, Vegeta being a badass, and Goku getting his shit wrecked is all much more entertaining in the manga TBH. I also enjoyed the pacing as everything happens so quick and it feels like the plot is moving quickly.
I did miss Goku amazing finisher on kale but the rest is good and the fights are very entertaining. Hope this finishes up well and jump on to the next arc next volume. A 4 out of 5.

The escape is on!!!!!!!!!!!
After the shocking conclusion of the last volume we have our cast in a lot of trouble. The sister wants to ship out Norman, Emma leg is broken, and Ray will never forgive himself if his friends die. This whole volume is one "escape" volume but in doing so we might lose a few people along the way. Will the kids be okay? It's not looking good!
I loved the twist and turns this series makes. The thing is that they withhold JUST enough information to make the surprises fun. Ray comes out as a much more likeable character through this volume too. Poor Emma gets screwed but I love her in this and the facial expressions are great. The ending leads to some exciting future plot. But I always say if I don't SEE a character die on page, they probably aren't dead.
Overall, can't wait to see where we go. A 4.5 out of 5.

I really wish this was a 5 issue mini because the small intimate moments with characters is the best part. BUT since this is the second to last issue we have to speed things up. In the same fucked up fashion as the rest of the series the villains are screwed when Wonder Woman makes her appearance. The few villains who do escape must work with the few good guys who are alive. Who will die? Oh...plenty of people.
Every single time I pick up a Inio book I should prepare myself to be depressed. And here I am, again, fucking depressed. Probably not the best thing since I'm stuck at home due to this stupid fucking Virus but that's a complaint for another day.
Inio decides to give us a manga author who can't figure out what he wants in life. A lot of Inio work is actually focused on personal health issues, sexuality, depression and more. I think here we get a author of a famous Manga series, Kaoru Fukazawa, and he can't stand himself or his other co-workers. Not only is he lost on what to write next but he also is breaking off his marriage with his wife as well.
With all that happening he is trying to rediscover what is maybe important to him. He gets escorts to help him through his sexual frustration but it isn't till one girl, with cat like eyes, that things begin to change. He seems semi-happy while with her and even goes with her on a trip. But everything in his mind is crashing down around him and soon he reaches a boiling point where he finds out who he really is.
So I'm not 100% sure if this is actually based on Inio. I'm sure some of it is. Manga artist life aren't always easy, with the extremely long work hours and the quick fan-base drop that it can do to you. I appreciate the brutal honest look at it all. I also enjoyed watching a character like Kaoru try to find himself but maybe not get the answers he wants. This book isn't for everyone as it involves a lot of depression and people go through that regardless. There's also a moment of sexual assault, which is disturbing to say the least but not uncommon unfortunately in the situation he was in and she was in. But I can understand the distaste for the scene.
However this is a honest look at it all. I really did enjoy reading it even if there was no happy ending. But the ending itself had a reveal I didn't fully see coming and I actually liked it. Maybe not his best work but Inio does a good job here. A 4 out of 5.

Going to space, killing aliens, a lot of talk of the war of realms crossover a few years ago, and....a egg? Yeah, this is one weird ass issue. After 3 very impressive issues this is a weak link.
We're six volumes in, and I'm still enjoying Nick Spencer's run, but I can't help it's missing SOMETHING big.
So this is mostly going to revolve around Absoulte Carnage event. And in doing so we have 3 issues that cater to it. Peter's fight against Norman as a Carnage version of Green Goblin. You got glimpses of it in the event but here you get a far more detailed fight. On top of that you get a Goblin Red Nation issue which I guess sets up Norman's future. Last but not least is the very first issue which shows Peter almost proposing.
The first issue is probably strongest. It's funny, charming, and one step closer to bringing us back to the Peter and MJ relationship we loved prior One More Day horrendous effects. I also enjoyed the issues with Carnage Goblin verse Peter and how he never will give up helping people. Good stuff. The red Nation issue is a dud, boring, and not fun at all.
Overall, another solid collection but I really hope Nick's run eventually gets to "great" status down the line. A 3 out of 5.

It's been a long time since I can finally say a Garth Ennis booked truly impressed me.
Sara is the story of a russian sniper and her band of other russian woman snipers killing Nazi pieces of shit. Now, any story involving murdering Nazis is wonderful. But add a little salt and pepper of badass woman snipers taking out groups before they can even move? That's my kind of story.
But Garth doesn't shy away from the darkness of war. The bitter cold outlook of this all as these brave soldiers take on the Nazis in winter time is brutal and fantastic to watch. Sara, the main lead, is usually keeping to herself and putting herself deep in her own mind. This leads to a path nobody wants to go down in the end.
The art in this book is stunning. I felt COLD just reading this book. On top of that the action is crazy good with some brutal deaths. I also enjoyed the company here, as Sara was a solid lead, but the band with her was even better. While it took awhile to get attached to the characters I eventually warmed up to most. The ending is one of the best in recent memories too.
A very easy 4 out of 5.

Dial H for Hero is back! This time I liked this story a lot more than New 52 one.
SO Miguel, our main hero here, stumbles on a magical phone. Once dialed he becomes a HERO! And what this story bases itself on is Miguel always wanted to be like Superman. When he was a child he was rescued by the hero and looks up to him. But he also has a pretty shitty life at the moment. Till he finds the phone! Then everyone is after him and between him and his new friend they must escape their clutches.
What works really well here is the art. Obviously the major throwbacks to many comics from different genres is awesome. On top of that Miguel is a fun protagonist and he's pretty funny too as is his company. I thought the pacing was a bit off though and the ending didn't work as well for me as the first few issues. I also thought the ending tied it up and confused where it'll go.
Either way though it's something pretty different. For the art alone I'd give it a 5 but the story isn't as strong, so I'll settle on a 3.5 out of 5.
