This was actually pretty fun.
Lower rated than volume 1 and 2 by many but I found this to be one of the more fun reads. Have the girls doing a prison break, which is just badass. You have Luke and Han on a mission together which is funny as hell. Then you have a one shot at the start to show the life of a Rebel Spy. All of it eventually connects in the end to give a very fun adventure.
I really enjoyed a lot of this. Let's talk about that one shot. Holy shit! Intense, exciting, and scary. Show's how evil and truly fucked up the empire was. I also loved the internal thoughts of the rebel and the lead into the main storyline. The breakout prison stuff was all really badass too and some great character bonding moments. Though the Han and Luke storyline could have been better even if it was funny.
Overall, this was pretty fun. I think I liked it a bit more than volume 1-2 though still not great. A 3.5 out of 5.

This is the weakest issue of the newest X-men series but it's still solid.
We have new villains show up, and they are pretty wonky. Environmental extremist who want mutants to answer for their crimes. Cyclops, Emma, and some dude I have no clue who he is, show up to stop them. However, they might be a bigger threat than they originally thoughts.
While not amazing it's still pretty good. The humor is a little off and the art can be a little static sometimes. However, the fights are fun, cyclops is badass, and the ending leads to some big things. Overall, fun, but weaker than issue 1-2. A 3.5 out of 5.

I enjoyed volume 1 for its great art and some great opening issues but felt the 2nd half lacking. This one is luckily better but still a couple of issues.
We have our hero in the last volume almost kill everyone at the carnival. Luckily he calms down but is then exhiled from the camp. He wants to be alone but of course his trusty fox friend won't let that happen. So together they travel the lands once more to find the answers they need. In doing so they meet the boys grandfather, be he isn't what he seems.
I really enjoy the overall themes here. Anger, loss, abandonment, it's all told really well. Our hero, Abel, is on the verge of losing it all the time. But funny enough it's when he faces a person like his father or even grandfather that you see the difference in anger and disrespect. There's still time, and hope, for our boy to grow decent. I also liked the stuff with Abel's father here. The only thing I didn't love was again, the side characters. Especially the carnival people. None are interesting.
Overall, with a deeper focus on Abel and him growing, it helped makes this volume even better than the first. Also, the art is top notch. A 4 out of 5.

Ahhhhhh damn, after an amazing second volume, I was really excited for this.
This is again 4 different stories that do not connect completely, just a bit. With the first story being of the past and we find out a bit of history between the ice cream man and the cowboy hunting him. Next up are two stories that really are super depressing, including one about a man stuck through a TV program. Last, and probably my favorite story, is a man going into space, landing on a planet, and guess who is there? The motherfucking ice cream man.
The first and last story are the strongest. I think they capture the feel of the ice cream man series and give plenty of great story beats. I love the art too still. The middle issues are decent but nothing very memorable. Overall a good volume but not great like the last. 3 out of 5.

Another good, but not great, Star wars book.
The funny thing about these Marvel star wars books is that they are all solid but not great. Why? They are considered canon now and can not do anything drastic to change events of the movies. So in doing so we have Vader go to war. However, Vader is in episode 5 and 6. So you know nothing will happen to him. So the all mighty Vader decides to face off against a whole planet on top of the twins who have betrayed him.
Overall, the visuals are a treat and there's some great dialogue and funny moments but the tension is completely gone. Vader is God-Like here, and his powers are too freaking off the walls. He can do things he never showed in the movies. On top of that the stories move so quick because there's no "Well what will happen" because we've all seen episode 5.
Still, entertaining as it was, I wish these stories wouldn't have to be stuck inbetween movies though. Overall solid even with the setbacks. A 3 out of 5.

Wow wow wow wow wow. This one took me by total surprise. I fucking LOVED THIS!!!
Okay so the print version of this is probably impossible to find. That's why I pay for DC Universe. So I can read series like this.
So what is Spectre. Well, if you're like me, you'll have no fucking clue going in. That's okay though, the book easily explains his origins, background, and right away draws you into this supernatural detective badass who exacts revenge on those needed. This is a story of Jim Corrigan and his time as the might Spectre, a being who can defy hell and Satan himself. He is trying to save a woman from her unavoidable doom. The story has heavy themes such as depression, suicide, and even medical talk such as Aids. The story plays heavy into the mystery/serial killer angle while also talking about redemption and finding peace in yourself.
I wasn't sure what to expect from it. Sure, it can be a bit cheesy at times, and it's a bit heavy handed, especially with the aids stuff. However, John Ostrander does a great job of giving us realistic characters with real voices, real flaws, and real problems. I loved all the characters, and the pacing was near perfect. The art is brilliant with some of my favorite panels ever. Very weird and spooky this comic does not shy away from murder and death. So be ready.
Overall, this was fantastic. Spectre easily jumped up to a must read series now. Shame this was only collected in two volumes and stopped as his series goes on 50+ issues but I for sure am going to read it all. A 5 out of 5.

Slott is famous for Spider-man, and I did enjoy some of that run a lot, while other parts not so much. I also didn't like his Iron Man volume 1 at all. So I wasn't sure about Fantastic Four. Finally reading the copy I bought awhile ago, I can't believe I waited so long. This was a freaking BLAST!
So we all know Sue, Reed, and the kids have been out of the Marvel universe since secret wars. When Johnny and Ben are about to throw in the towel, Reed and Sue let them know they are still alive. But the fantastic four might be in trouble as a new villain has popped up and hellbent on destroying everything...again. Oh and Doom makes his grand return!
Overall, this was some good stuff. I love the chemistry between Reed/Sue, Ben/Johnny, and Val is fucking ADORABLE still even if she aged and makes me cry cause little baby val was also too cute. But everybody gets a chance to shine and the ending is building nicely to something special. I also love the art, it's great. The new villain (or she might be old? Not sure) was the only part I didn't care for. She was okay.
This is great for fans of fantastic four or can jump on if new to the family. Easy, fun, and exciting. This is what Fantastic Four should be. A 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4.

Captain America is now in jail for a crime he didn't commit. But isn't that life?
Steve is framed for the murder of General Ross. Instead of running he decides to turn himself in. While he does that the people who conspire against him begin their plan to frame him as a murderer and the cause of many people's death. On the flipside you have the ladies of liberty whooping ass and taking names as they used their powers to free Steve...but will it be that easy?
I love the multiple threads going on. Evil Steve, Steve rogers in jail, the ladies kicking ass, and so much more. All on top of some great art with some fantastic character moments and politically charged message. The twist and turns keep coming as well. The end result isn't as satisfying as say the last volume but it still leaves some big things up in the air to make me want to read volume 3. This run has been great so far.

Wait, are we really getting two GOOD events in one year? I first read [b:Absolute Carnage|45032059|Absolute Carnage|Donny Cates|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1557890985l/45032059._SX50_.jpg|69718805] and LOVED it. With this being close to the grand finale of Aaron's epic long run on Thor, did it live up to the hype?
Thor has had enough. He is just trying to chill and be a god. But loki comes and lets his brother no it won't be that simple. He needs help. He's badly hurt. BUT IT IS LIES! The dark elf Malekith has plans to conquer all the realms, and his first plan of action is take out Thor, Loki, AND the Valkyries. Who will stand up to the elf? The warriors of earth all band together, Cap, Wolverine, Spider-man, Punisher, Daredevil, and more! Thor enraged, earth under attack, people dying left and right, this is the end of days!
This was a goddamn motherfucking blast. So many huge fights, but they feel heavy, with fantastic art, and stellar moments from multiple characters. Humor given by multiple characters including Spider-man and Wolverine. Great epic fights with Thor, Odin, and more! Surprise return of characters I've REALLY missed. All wrapped up in fantastic art. The only negative was the final issue felt just like a set up chapter for 4 new series, two looking boring.
This is a event worth checking out for sure. A 4 out of 5.

This was the worst of the series so far. I didn't like the space adventures, Glactaus is almost always boring, and Strange self doubting was getting stupid. Overall, not all that fun. A interesting start falls into a long overdrawn mission that adds to nothing. The ending is intriguing though. Enough to pick up the last volume.
