Whohoooooo! Miles has a awesome Spider-man book again. Let's gooooo!!!!

Saladin Ahmed is a pretty big writer now days. Writing the Black Bolt series critics and people loved, Exiles, the excellent Quicksilver Mini-series, and more. Now I didn't love Black Bolt but enjoyed it and I thought Exiles was meh, but loved Quicksilver. Saying that, Miles Morales lets Ahmed really shine as he brings Miles alive here.

So Miles is still in school trying to be Spider-man on the side. This book balances his personal life with friends and family while also dealing with crime fighting and teaming up with unlikely people. What's different than Bendis run, which I liked even with its ups and downs, is Miles feels more like a real person. It could be because the slang is more updated and fresh, feels real, but also the connection to his friends and especially support from his family. It all works well to give real vibes.

I think Miles is a great character. His growth throughout the years has been great and he's for sure very different than Peter or Gwen who are probably the next two biggest Spider-people. I think it'll be interesting to see what Ahmed has in store since so far this is giving me classic Ultimate Spider-man vibes in all the right ways. I want more team ups like here, more school adventures, more love stories. Give me it all! A 4.5 out of 5.

Manhunter continues being a damn fine surprise.

This volume is broken up with the "1 year later" DC event. The first half is Manhunter doing her rounds and beating up baddies while also trying to be a better mom. Then her pops comes into the picture and you find out who he really is and he goes after her son! Then the one year later has some really good ideas with Dr. Psycho and his court case was a nice change of pace here. Will Manhunter be the ultimate superhero?

The thing that still works so well is the back and forth between her regular life and superhero life. The art is solid with some badass fight scenes. I also really enjoy almost all the different interactions and everyone seems to have their own voice. This is easily one of the best volumes so far. A 4 out of 5.

This volume was cool but not as fun as volume 1. It's basically more of the same. We got our favorite ninja going around hunting down people. The fights are pretty epic and some badass moments but the backstory of who these "evil people" are and why he's hunting them down are okay. Not so much high end James Bond devices this time around and more just hand to hand fighting. I will say the ending is intriguing to get me to read the next volume but wasn't blown away. A 3 out of 5.

I just can't get into Jamie's writing. It's long and overstuffed, and just not very interesting. The art is solid enough but this book feels weird. Like he's with a bunch of hippie like people, weird shit begins to happen, and then...even more weird shit. It kind of reminds me of Grant Morrison but not in a good way. I'm excited to finally move on to a new writer next book. A 2 out of 5.

Skyward finishes kind of eh verses how good it started but still fun.

We find out the secret Willa's father had this whole time. Is there really a way to turn off the gravity? Who's behind this all? What is this new secret society in hiding? Will the bad guy finally get his fucking teeth knocked out? It is all answered here.

Willa is still a great main character and the pacing is quick and never boring here. However, the story itself takes predictable twist and nothing really surprising. The art though pushes it from being just okay to still good since it's mostly great. Overall, a solid if not easy to see ending. A 3 out of 5.

Lady Killer is a damn fun time.

So the thing with this book is that it is ultra violent. More so than I expected. I mean you have "killer" in the title but it isn't till a woman's head gets smashed in that you really feel the horror of this world. Josie is our main character here and she's basically a female hitman. Sounds cool right? It is, except the marks are getting more complicated and with her having a family the scheduling isn't working for her. This leads to a rebellion and a lot of death and carnage.

This series moves at such a quick pace it's almost too much to take in so quick. However, it's never boring. Josie is a great character with two sides to her that make her extremely deadly. The art is amazing and I loved the hell out of the ending. The style takes a bit to get used to but it works out in the end. A 4 out of 5.

This was okay. It had some funny moments, Nick Spencer gets a lot of Peter's voice right, and I loved the Art. However, the storyline has been there and done that feeling X100. I really just wish they'd take Spider-man to new places, because this is getting a little too boring. I also think the humor is a little too deadpool at times. Either way I'll give it two full arcs because love Ottley and Nick work most of the time.

Buffy gets rebooted in time for the remake that's supposed to come out in the next couple of years. WhohoooOOOOOooo!

Actually, I'm just about done with Buffy's comic series that was a continuation of the TV show. While it wasn't always great (Fuck you 2nd half of season 8) it did have some great moments (season 10-11). This is a complete reboot. The first issue even feels a lot like the TV shows first few episodes, but quicker paced, but hitting same notes. Notable changes like making Willow gay right away, introducing Spike a lot earlier, using modern day slang to replace late 90's. Overall, it feels like 2-3 episodes mashed together in 4 long issues.

Saying that, it mostly works. I'll admit the first issue was intriguing but not super impressed. I was worried it would follow the show too close. Not give itself the freedom to try new things. As it went on, clearly that changed. Sure, most character's stayed similar but there were a TON of new plot points and a great ending twist. Also, the art, THANK YOU. This art looks much closer to show, way better, and more vibrant.

Overall, I'm hooked. A 4 out of 5!

Whoa, Kelly Thompson makes a damn fun Captain Marvel!

So this is a good place to jump on the Captain Marvel train. We have Nuclear man show up, and he sure thinks women are useless and nothing more than a piece of meat to use to make babies. Pretty disgusting, right? Luckily we have Captain Marvel, Rogue, Spider-woman and more to help slap some sense into this fool. When they all get trapped in a different reality they'll all have to come together to win!

It's not perfect. There's some boring moments in the alternate reality. I also didn't love the way Rogue was written here. And it wraps up super quick. However, the art is solid and the other characters are well written. Especially Carol and Jess. I also think Nuclear Man is the perfect piece of shit enemy to face off against first arc.

It's not perfect, but it's fun, and that's a big positive for Captain Marvel comics which usually fall into the meh or bad for me. A 3.5 out of 5.

Well finally we get a good main arc in this series but the rest? Meh.

So the main arc is The Family Man, and it's actually really good. An old guy is going around and basically possesses people to kill their family. From a little kid smashing his mother and father's brains in and so on. So John decides to go head to head with him but not without losing someone in the fight. Not to mention even the aftermath is pretty interesting. Neil Gaiman's story is also pretty good for a one shot.

But the rest of the stories in here are pretty dull. Morrison's story did nothing for me and the last two issues in here were a drag to get through. Fucking dog issue was horrible.

Overall, better than the previous two volumes but nothing amazing. Finally moving on to volume 5 which would be Ennis's start. This is a 3 out of 5 at best.
