This is near the end of Winick's run on Outsiders (The next one is a crossover with checkmate) So how does it wrap up? By going back and telling us what happened within that year 1 timeskip.
We go back to why the old gang decided to split. We had little nips of information and call backs to what happened but this time we get the whole picture. Want to know what happened to Shift? Read here. Wanna know how Gracie and Thunder fell inlove? Read here! Wanna know why Roy is gone and Nightwing returned as leader? Guess what folks? You'll find out here!
Good: To have the old gang back, even in a flashback, was really nice. I love almost all the characters so that was enjoyable. I also thought the reasoning of why members left, why some stayed, all worked well and true to the character. The art was solid here and no complaints there.
Bad: It felt odd this was near the end of their run as it leaves the new team kind of pointless in a way. I also didn't like the whole "he didn't do it storyline" felt a bit cop-out.
Overall, really interesting flashback and chemistry was great, even if the storyline itself was a little weak. I'd still go a 3.5 out of 5.

I think I'm starting to figure out what I love and dislike about Gail Simone's Birds of prey. Luckily, this volume hits more positives than the last two.
This hefty volume has a few different stories. From going on a road trip to stop some evil creature/woman from killing people. Another about a girl who can summon the powers of superheroes like Shazam and so on. Then we have one where Huntress breaks away from the team, but this time maybe for good? A story of Babs dealing with the aftermath of the Braniac invasion. Another of Diana dealing with her past and teaming up with Catman (He's awesome by the way). So a lot in this volume is going on.
Good: The art I've warmed up to a lot. I guess the sexy shots and such just kind of flow in. Least the fights look pretty great. I also really love the girls when they are being friends/family and kind of more down to earth. It flows so easy. Diana character growth is amazing and really well done, while Huntress and Babs grow they aren't as interesting but still enjoyable. The ending seems really interesting to where this goes next.
Bad: The main issue I'm having with this is Gail's needlessly dialogue heavy fight scenes. Don't get me wrong, they can work, and Gail has a magical talent for dialogue between characters when not fighting. It works so well and I love the emotional bits. But the fighting talkative bits are so overdone and honestly get in the way of the fights. Also, some stories feel to disconnected and almost like a weekly episode.
Overall a very solid volume. Liked it more than the last two. While not AS good as volume 3, it still up there. A 4 out of 5.

Well this wasn't as good as I hoped. I usually dig a lot of what Duane writes but this new team of birds of Prey just didn't gel with me.
Right off the bat we have Black Canary kind of building her team from the scratch up. Gone are Huntress and Batgirl (mostly) and instead we have a new team with the likes of Katana and Poison Ivy on it. However, the big nasty here as planted a bomb inside of people so that they can use regular humans as weapons. This of course leads to one of our teammates getting infected and others might be on the side of betraying.
Good: I enjoyed most of the costume changes. Gone are the days of ass in the face, which I love ass but it was too much, and actual some practical costumes for once. I dug the fights, they were fast and fun. I also thought some of the new additions were cool like Katana.
Bad: The rest? Not so much. Poison Ivy was one note and bad. The crazy chick who goes bad, can't recall the name now, was also lame. I thought the storyline was kind of meh and nothing to write home about. The ending didn't do much to get me excited.
This is coming from Gail's series, so it might be hard to measure up, but it didn't do much. It wasn't horrible, but I expect better. A 2.5 out of 5.

Damn...talk about death galore. NO one is safe!
Emmy's sister has returned from the dead. What's her mission now? To destroy everything sacred to Emmy. A mass murdering spree begins as she goes after everyone who Emmy loves. Dad? Briance? Even skin boy are all in trouble. Without giving any spoilers this is a action packed fucked up volume.
Good: Everything comes to a head and it's bloody and nasty and worth every moment of character build up. When characters die and you feel the emotion, that means the story did its job. Cullen Bunn carefully gives us each character and their motives and so when something happens you feel that shit. Also, the art feels perfect here, a sense of dread and bloody hell coming down on poor Emmy and Harrow County.
Bad: The very ending brings back someone else, but it's kind of confusing since I thought she was already someone...
Overall, another fantastic volume. The build up of all the volumes into this worked well for the series to give the strongest volume so far. This series turned me around completely on Cullen Bunn's work. A 5 out of 5.

This reminds me of a pilot I'd see on TV.
So this one opens with scientist doing science things, and then a big water like creature comes and snatches the main researcher and that sets the story up right there. Next we are slowly introduced to the cast, which is very diverse, and how they all collide. The main drama comes from the main character Hel Coates and her brother learn of their father's death. So they begin to snoop around his workplace to figure out what happened but of course a big corporation doesn't like that much at all. The hunt is on!
Good: The art is really solid and showcases some amazing shots, especially of a "secret" city I won't spoil. I like how each character is different, one of the most diverse books I read, but also feels very natural. Dialogue for a good chunk works well and everyone sounds like actual people. I think the ending leaves this open to go into even more interesting areas in the world.
Bad: I did not like the main character, Hel, AT ALL. She was annoying, selfish, and just kind of borderline silly and over the top. I get the approach, and her growth by the end, but it's hard to root for someone I did not like. I also thought the story came to a sudden stop. Felt like a start more than a complete series (Which I believe this is it)
Overall, a fun and exciting adventure. While I'd like it to cover some new ground, and it felt a bit too much like other things I've seen, i still had a great time visiting this world. The art helps a lot to give it a unique flare, and the cast is enjoyable, even if I don't like the star. Overall a 3.5 out of 5!

Now THAT is what I'm talking about!
So first volume of this series was fine, pretty cool, but nothing special. This time the focus is far more on Guy. Which, for me, could be a bad thing. I never really liked the Lantern much, he was always with John as more of the ones I gave two shits about. This volume turned me around though.
So first story arc is actually Guy and his new partner going on an adventure in a chilly place. When they land on this ice planet they are right away tricked and beaten. Then it esclates from there when a beast who takes the power of the rings decides to go to earth. The 2nd half is mostly building up Sinestro war here with people becoming infected with the Fear. This one goes further into the universe from characters from the last volume returning. Except Guy is still the main focus and he is now questioned for murder!
Good: The big jump in pacing and stakes is very nice. Never is this volume boring and always intense. I love the first half is like a good old buddy cop episode except when shit goes bad, villains get stronger, and then some secret agent green lanterns? Fucking badass. The expanding of the fear infected people, the murders, and more makes this feel more and more like a police movie/show but out in space, and works really well to play on the strengths of the series. The art, as always, is fantastic and some great fighting moments.
Bad: It is big and there's so many characters. I loved what they did with Guy but the rest of the cast feels kind of meh. I want to feel for those characters but very rarely do.
Overall, great! I really enjoyed this volume a lot. A huge upgrade from volume 1 and looking forward to revisiting Sinestro War before continuing this series with Peter at the helm. 4 out of 5.

Still one of the best events ever. Super high stakes, amazing fights, and some interesting twist. I did a much bigger review in my green lantern omnibus volume 1 review but Green Lantern Sinestro Corps War is some amazing stuff.
Thor is getting schemed by his brother Loki once more. Surprise surprise!
This volume goes into a Donald meeting back up with Jane after years of not seeing each other. This is a more human moment but JMS really does a great job of letting us feel for these characters. The next part is the slow plotting of Loki to overthrow her/his brother. We learn of a new brother for Thor to have that might challenge his title. We also deal with the fallout of Captain America's death. Last but not least is the return of a very old god, but this challenge might be too big for Thor himself.
Good: The fight scenes in this are so over the top and amazing, really freaking great. The human moments are so damn good, it brings these gods down to earth which I love. The end result of the build up is both intriguing and damn awesome too and I wish every Thor series was as epic as this one.
Bad: The middle can drag some. One thing I have a problem with 85% of Thor books is the Loki Scheming and mindless talking and conversations can annoying. No different here.
Overall a 4 out of 5. A nice step up from the last and I'm really enjoying JMS Thor a lot.

I did a review on this forever ago but for some reason I don't know why it went away. But 3 out of 5. Really entertaining though lots of build up can feel a bit slow. Art is fantastic though.
