Took me a bit to want to review this, not because it's bad, but because some of it was hard to take in.

So this is a story of a boy coming from a broken home. Russell, our main character, opens up his story where his mom leaves the family and Russell and his father pack up and leave. The story jumps all around, where they try to find a home, find one, try to make it though, lose more family, lose friends, death, and scheming. SO many events that somehow go by so fast despite this book being pretty hefty in size.

Good: I really enjoyed the art here. Simple but works very well for the story. Dreary when it needs to be, emotions show well, everything there worked. I also enjoyed the flow of the story. Broken into chapters, they feel like important sections of Russell's life. I liked him dealing with bullying, love, sexual frustration, betrayal, and more. It hits important topics throughout childhood.

Bad: I don't know if this is completely based of real life but the bully in here sounds a bit over the top. And there's a scene where I think you're suppose to make you feel bad for him but all I could think was "fuck him." The ending comes to a sudden end.

Overall, it's a slice of life story with a lot of interesting themes. I think it's worth checking out for being different than the norm. A 3.5 out of 5.

Citrus remains my guilty pleasure and a fun way to close out my 2018.

So what's it about? Well, we know already. Two sisters now living together and falling for each other. Don't worry though, they are Step-sisters. If we can accept it in game of thrones and real brother and sister, this should be easier to digest. This volume mostly revolves around Yuzu finally getting brave enough to tell Mei how she feels. This time though she might have to break her friends heart, who she finds out, is also in love with mei. A three way triangle? WHAT WILL HAPPEN!?

Good: Listen, half the readers reading this want to see the two hot girls kiss, so you do get some of that. The comedy hits actually more often than not. I mean it's cheesy and silly but it a cute way. I also thought the time when they finally decide to go out was like a "fucking finally' moment.

Bad: The art is great except for the character designs. I can't tell who is who half the times, and it makes it hard to keep up with who is who and their situation. I also think the whole volume could have been done in two issues instead of 4...

Overall, cute and fun as always. The sexual scenes are the big driving factor but the character development starting to grow and the humor are actually fun. Well, on to the next. A 3 out of 5.

Superman, Superman, he can do what...Oh wrong hero.

Wow I'm bored.

Okay, so this is getting very close to the end of Tomasi run on Superman! A run I mostly loved despite a drop in quality for last volume (Which half wasn't even done by him) but this volume we have Superman heading to Apolopik or however spell it, after Lex comes clean that he is not a god to these people. So instead they want Superman to replace Lex but of course Superman decides fuck that and fights for what's right! We also have a one shot of Superman taking a bunch of terminally ill kids up to the justice league tower. Last but not least is James Robinson story of Superman visiting a planet who wants to die.

Good: Loved the HELL out of the one shot of Superman with the kids. It's heartfelt, amazing, and so damn adorable. It's everything Superman is about. I also enjoyed the Apolopik arc, though not crazy good it was interesting enough throughout to keep my attention. Once more the art is stunning as usual.

Bad: The last arc was really boring. To the point I frankly kind of lost track of the page a few times and nearly fell asleep. What a weak closing chapter to a otherwise solid volume.

Overall, not amazing but better than last volume. Here's hoping volume 7 will close out Peter's run in a strong way! A 3 out of 5.

This was pretty fun!

So we have Bruce Wayne who is convicted for a murdering he never did. He's on the run, leaving behind his name, and becoming the Dark Knight completely. The very first issue pushes that, with his best friend, Superman following him around questioning why he isn't trying to clear his name. The next few issues that follow focus on the Batfamily, mostly Batgirl, Spoiler, Robin, and Nightwing all trying to clear Bruce's name. Each time they pick up a clue of who the killer might be it reverts back to "could have Bruce done it too?" and it's pretty compelling.

Good: Really dug the hell out of the issue with Batgirl. usually a silent character, Cass really gets to shine here in wanting to clear Bruce's name. Dick and Tim teaming up to clear their father's name is also a highlight and pretty funny at times. Seeing Superman in the very first issue try to help his friend is powerful stuff as well.

Bad: The art, while I love it at times, is also hard to follow. I also thought Bruce was going too "dark" here, especially telling Alfred to basically piss off.

This was a pretty fun surprise. I never got to read "Bruce Wayne, Murderer?" but I liked this and understood everything that came from it without reading that. For old school Batman fans who want more of the cartoon version of him, this might work for you. A 3 out of 5.

Bummer this will be the closer of the year.

This one is okay at best. I liked the design and look of this book but the story is kind of boring. It starts off well enough, where Diana questioning what she's doing. Then a bomb goes off at her friends wedding but after that? Just kind of boring fights with little to no tension at all.

Yeah, this is around a 2 out of 5. Sorry Wonder Woman :(

Whoa, talk about starting 2019 with a bang!

This story starts right off the bat in a crazy way. Three guys in a truck trying to outrun people trying to take whatever is in it. So once we establish this insane story, crashing, and seeing a friend betray another, the real story actually starts. A revenge tale that goes deep thanks to a flushed out backstory of two best friends and someone they both care for being the heart of it all. Then the ending, which I won't spoil, goes to insane heights of craziness that I can't help but love.

Good: The art is gritty yet the facial expressions and movements can be cartoony to make a awesome mix of the two. I love every character in here. The brother like relationship, the love and betrayal, and of course the twist and turns Donny is famous for all work well. The ending is one of the most ambitious, outright insane, endings I've ever read but loved every second. The dialogue and pacing of the story are near perfect in my opinion.

Bad: Uhhh maybe a tad confusing at the start?

Overall, one of my favorite Cates books ever and I love a lot of his series like Redneck and Babyteeth. This is a great way to start 2019. A 4.5 out of 5, pushing it up to a 5.

We're in the 2nd half of this horror series and man oh man, is it building up or what.

The first two issues are world building/character building. We learn more about Emmy, what happen to the old gods, who is that mighty beast in the forest, and of course who Emmy might truly be in the future. The 2nd half is a hunting trip gone very very wrong. When outsiders come into Harrow County to hunt, they're met with resistance. The deadly kind. And death is what consumes them if they don't escape.

Good: The slow build and world building works well here. It's detailed enough, with some great flashbacks. The 2nd half is a high end action paced adventure with tons of gore and death to show off. What the series is building towards is looking really good.

Bad: The exposition dumb might turn some people off at the start. Different artist to at the start.

Overall, another great volume. Harrow County remains consistently great throughout with the exception of volume 3, which was just good. This is another 4 out of 5.

This was a solid read though I had a few issues.

We finally get a more interesting storyline for Huntress. When she has to go undercover for Barbara and try to find out why kids are dressing themselves as superheroes before killing themselves we get a pretty solid storyline. This is also a volume filled with a self-doubting Babs and almost becomes something very evil. Then the watchtower gets blown up but we don't really know why, must be in a batman book. Then we tie up some more stuff of previous villains.

Good: I enjoyed the wrap up storyline from the first volume a lot. I think the dialogue is mostly well done and you get a different feel for each main hero. The ending works well and I think the pacing was steady throughout.

Bad: The jumps in time and events is annoying and hard to keep up with. I think the art still oversexualizes things.

Overall, a solid read. Better than last volume but not as good as volume 3. Let's see how it goes on! A 3 out of 5.

I just can't seem to really connect to a wonder woman comic. I enjoyed most of Gail's stuff, and this story isn't bad, and art is solid, but just...did almost nothing for me on personal level.

This issue was middle of the road for me. Building the plot forward but nothing really outstanding.

So this issue jumps around a lot. A moment with Batman and The Flash actually working their jobs but coming to different conclusions. Batgirl hunting down Harley to try and "save" her. A moment with Booster Gold and Blue Beetle that's pretty great. Then we run into a trinity fight because...well they always disagree.

I know the big twitter beef right now with this issue is the Batgirl image. I'm not going to talk much about this because I don't see this as sexualized AT ALL. Especially in the context of the issue where each character has done their moment of talking about their issues/fears and this, of course, is Babs biggest hurdle she's still trying to get over. Just because she pulls down her pants SLIGHTLY and shows her bullet wound, does not make it sexual, at least to me. When I'm viewing this panel, especially in the context of the story being told, I don't go "ohhh man look at that. Hot. So sexy, she pulling down her pants just a inch or two and there's the bullet wound! PERFECT". My views are more liberal than anything but this "shock" and "how dare you dc" shit is getting out of hand and this is not a "sexy" page at all.

Anyhow, on to the good and bad.

Good: I liked moments here a lot. The one with Lois and Clark rings true to marriage. My wife and I always seem to talk about serious issues right when we're getting ready to bed, and it just felt very down to earth for two larger than world characters. I thought the moment with Batgirl was actually great, no words really had to be said, and it hit the emotions right. The art remains extremely good as always. The flash and batman moment was lolz.

Bad: I didn't love the Booster/Blue moment. I felt like it was kind of just okay. I get what it was going for but it felt a little out of the blue. I also thought the Harley/batgirl moment was just okayish.

Overall a decent issue. Feels like the bridge issue that will work well in the graphic novel format. So for that this is still a 3 out of 5.
