Just kind of boring.
A cool idea of showing how to clean up a bloody area. How to "clean" the dirtiness of a murder and so on. But the story felt jumbled, confused, and jumping around. Art felt a little stocky. I expected better.

How come I haven't really heard of Jim Krueger? This dude obviously loves Superheroes, and he handles them really well.
So the last volume we were having all our superheroes losing. Like, really really bad. Hell, this volume starts with Superman STILL getting his ass whooped. Then, luckily, the backups for the Justice League are called in to help. This is a really big moment for some secondary characters, and goes to show how each superhero can be extremely important. The villains take a backseats for most of this volume, not narrating it like the last much, and only at the end does it start to show more of their plan.
Good: The art, while again not a huge fan of Ross's style, works well here. This is a depressing story but there's moments of humor that work really well. Actually some great ones with Batman. I know, I was surprised too. I thought the loss over and over again on the heroes and them getting back up and fighting is awesome. I also thought the narration still worked really well here.
Bad: Some of it is long-winded and feels little filler-like in issue 7 and 8.
Overall, I'm really enjoying Justice. I never hear it talked about much but I think this is a great book for heavy comic readers and casuals alike. A 4 out of 5.

When Lemire writes a good story it's really hard to not want more.
This is telling a story of two very different people trying to solve the same mystery. This Red Barn is a source of evil. Something, or someone, is forcing innocent people to go crazy and murder others. Through this story we focus on a priest coming to a village and trying to fit in after priest goes missing but we soon find out he might not be. Then we have a story of a crazy guy picking up trash and learning the secrets of the red barn.
Good: love the hell out of the pacing. Really quick paced and never boring. Characters are all really well done and intriguing. I also enjoyed the twist and turns.
Bad: the art kind have reminded of outcast. Which I like but took me out of it for a bit.
Overall really enjoyable. Not alot is told and probably have more questions than answers by the end but I'm in it for the ride! 4 out of 5.

This was a pretty good surprise!
This takes place after indentity crisis and when they did the one year later event. For a whole year some of our biggest heroes, including batman and robin were gone. This is their comeback. While away Harvey dent took up the Gotham protector mantle trying to protect people. However, when Bruce and Tim get back and become batman and robin once more he feels rejected. Even worse, someone is killing villains, but who!?
Good. The art is solid throughout. The detective feel and plotting was pretty refreshing. The fights were grand and fun. I really liked Bruce and Tim's relationship here.
Bad: Two face going bad again so quick was ehhhh...
Overall really enjoyable, well written, and detective style storytelling missing in some batman stories. A 4 out of 5.

I was on the fence about this title when first released but glad I gave it a go.
So the joker is reformed. He is no longer the crazy killer clown we all know. Batman doesn't buy this bullshit for one second and brutally beats down the joker. However as the story progresses we actually see the joker isn't lying. With surprise twist from characters like harley Quinn, a new take on nightwing, and barbs and more we have a elseworld that feels different.
Good: the art is of course great. Murphy always does really with that. The storyline is both well told and interesting. The idea of joker changing is well crafted. I love the batfamily in this, they love and fight like a real one. The ending is great and I wanna see where this goes.
Bad: I love politics but this is really heavy handed at times. I also thought the changes to the lore and such took a bit getting used to.
Overall really fun and different. This is everything I love in the elseworld story. A 4 out of 5.

Pretty dang fun if not a little dumb.
So what's cooler than hulk and wolverine? Hulkverine! A mixture of two of the craziest monsters to be heroes come together in one character who os just trying to do the right thing. When a military operation goes wrong out main hero is forced to undergo test to become this new creature. In doing so we have a real entertaining book of the new hero weapon H saving people while also trying to stop creatures from invading our world.
Good: enjoyed the main hero. You feel bad for him and his family. I also thought the designs of weapon H and others was super over the top but fun as hell. I also think the idea of weapon h and man thing and another ugly creature teaming up is great.
Bad: the tone can shift from real serious to cartoony fun but it does feel odd the sudden change. Also, I don't see this as anything brand new and dunno how many new readers it will get.
If enjoying immortal hulk for it's dark and horror feel this is great for it's more zany fun. Try it out! A 3 out of 5.

I was really digging this till the end.
So this is about a bunch of kids finding a dead body. To be more specific it's a superhero's body. They begin to figure out what to do. Go to cops? Cover it up? Get rid of the body? When everything starts to unravel and these kids begin to change and panic, everything falls apart.
Good: I really enjoyed the style of art. Cartoony and over the top but it works for a lot of the scenes. I enjoyed the dialog, kids talked like kids, and that means everyone hates everything. The build up is great and the tone gets darker and darker.
Bad: the ending just ends. Leaves so many plot points up in the air it's frustrating. I also didn't care or need to know about the superhero past. Wasn't really interesting or well done.
Overall solid early work from Lemire. I think it's good, moments of greatness, but doesn't grasp it completely. A 3.5 out of 5.

Isola was a series I kept wanting to read and when I finally saw it up on Hoopla I had to read it. Was it worth the wait? Well...
Isola is about a warrior protecting her queen. You've seen this story a million times before. However, this time her queen is transformed into a tiger. So now they work together to survive in a world hellbent on taking them out. Will they survive or is this the end for our duo?
Good: the art. Just...wow. Art can go a long way to improve a series and this one does. I also thought the struggle of protecting someone you love is great. You feel actual stakes.
Bad: the story sometimes is hard to follow. Creatures and mystical people and beast pop out of nowhere. Also, it does hit one or two cliche moments that make it feel less interesting if it went in a different direction.
Overall this is a stunning book to look out. While I enjoy the characters I do hope for the plotting to become stronger. A 3.5 out of 5.

While I think max landis knocked it out of the park with American Alien, I still really dug his follow up work green valley.
This is the story of knights who fight with honor. However, one day they lose almost everything. Then, a boy comes seeking them for help against the evil black magic wizard. So they March on but instead of finding a wizard they find something they could have never imagined.
Good: the art and humor is spot on. A wide range of different characters make for a entertaining trip. The art is well balanced, looking cartoony but never too kiddie. I also enjoyed the ending, it worked.
Bad: the twist was easy to see coming. Especially around issue 2. I also thought the villain was just okayish.
Overall, super fun! I really hope one day max landis comes back to writing comics. It's where he really shows his skills. A 4 out of 5.

Reading this I was sure I'd go with a 2 out of 5 but by the end I was intrigued enough to bump it up to a 3.
So basically it starts out with a guy names graves who gives you a gun with untraceable bullets and you can kill the person who has done you wrong. So for the following 459 pages it basically has a bunch of stories of different people all getting revenge or changing their minds or getting killed. By the end they all start to connect...kind of.
Good: The background story, who is graves, the minutemen, that was all interesting. I also thought some of the stories like ice cream man and father and son were pretty good.
Bad: some of these stories were bad, especially the gambling one and the very first story. Both were boring and very predictable. I also thought the art was just okay. The dialogue sometimes was atrocious. I get trying to do "slang" but it didn't always work.
A 2.5-3 out of 5. I'll give book 2 a chance down the line.
