Donny Cates is here to save the Marvel Universe!!!

Just kidding. I actually enjoy a lot of Marvel titles still. But hearing Donny was coming into to write a lot of marvel series I was excited. I mean I loved Redneck and Babyteeth so I was ready to check out more from here. So, Doctor Strange, was his first big title. Does volume 1 live up to his previous work? You damn right!

So there's a new Sorcerer Supreme in town. Loki, you know that fun loving God who always fucks up Thor's plans? Well now he wears the cape! And Strange is just trying to sit back and talk to animals and heal them. He has become basically Dr. Dolittle or however spell his name, but with a little magic on the side. What happens when shit goes wrong? The spells Loki is trying to get are against the rules for Strange, and then shit gets crazy intense when the story unfolds.

Good: Love, love, LOVE the dialog here. Sharp, fun, crazy, witty, all of those things. I also really enjoyed Loki and Strange's interactions, a old face coming back into the fray, and that ENDING. I also thought the art was really solid when it came to fight scenes because everything flowed so damn good...

Bad: ...but sometimes when people were standing still the art got a little ugly. Also, this isn't for non-marvel fans. A lot of stuff I enjoyed in this is because of reading past marvel stories.

Overall this was a freaking blast. While not the best book of the year or anything it's fun from start to finish. I'm so glad Cates is writing a ton for Marvel. This is exciting! A 4 out of 5.

There we go. Priest fixes Justice League by taking over the franchise.

After 5 volumes (Only Volume 5 being decent) we finally get a Justice League title worth reading. Who's Christopher Priest? Well he's the guy who made Black Panther cool. He's the guy who made Deathstroke good again. Now? Now he's the guy to fix the Justice League flagship title.

What's this about? Well multiple things. Mostly dealing with our heroes, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lanterns, and more who failed somewhat in their mission to save people. After the death of a nun the public is fighting against superheroes. Well, more directly, Justice League. This is a little political, a little bit about laws and what's right and wrong, and a whole lot of character development.

Good: The art is fantastic. Clean and fun, with good flow to it all. I love the dialog, sharp and fun, Priest knows how to juggle that well. The copy-cat story has been done but having him ruin batman's public image is pretty special. I also dug the interactions between all the members and the idea they are facing public shame.

Bad: Characters act out of place, or different, than their current titles. Especially the Green Lanterns, while entertaining, are very different. I also felt Cyborg was more conflicted than usual. I didn't care for Flash's story here and his "safe" was kind of overdrawn.

Overall this was great. Fun, enjoyable, some great "hmmm if superheroes were real would they get away with this?" type of stuff. I also really enjoyed the pacing as it's never boring. So if you hated Bryan Hitches run as much as me, fear not, a good writer has taken over! A 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4 out of 5.

Another solid fun adventure with the Barbaric warrior Alec and his special X-O Manowar armor!

So how do we up the stakes? We have our hero in modern time trying to fit in but that's not going well. The aliens that enslaved his people have taken over most of the world's government and now beginning to launch a army on earth to take it over because of Alec returning. However, that armor is no joke, so the aliens tell the humans to hire someone to take the armor from him. Who do they call? Oh you guessed it, NINJAK! Enter the Ninja to face off against Ironma-- I mean, X-O Manowar!

Good: The fights are a lot of fun. From Ninjak's bloody kills to X-O Manowar fucking up pretty much anyone coming at him. The dialog is pretty solid with a few jokes from Ninjak which I really enjoyed actually. Also, the pacing is very fast paced. One of the best parts is it's never boring.

Bad: The art is okay. I wasn't very impressed by it. Not bad but feels just "average" throughout. Also X-O seems pretty much unbeatable. Maybe too strong? He's starting to feel it.

Overall a lot of fun. I wouldn't say it's great but I was never bored. I'd go with a 3 out of 5!

I knew after the last volume it would be hard to top it. This isn't as good but honestly? That's okay.

So this has three parts. Super Friends part 3-4 (Now it's Bruce and Diana's turn to be besties) as they fight for over 20+ years together against a endless horde of monsters while Selina tries to free them. Then we have a Poison Ivy story, which I'm going to be honest here, has never been one of my favorite characters. I get WHY people Love her, but not me. Anyhow she takes over the world and everyone in it except for Selina and Bruce since they had the cure. Last but not least is two one shots, one with the Origin of BRUCE WAYNE. No, not the hero, but a kid who is twisted and turns into a little killing machine. Then the last volume is Selina going over her past interactions with the Batman while trying on a wedding dress...or two...or three.

Good: I love Selina and Bruce together. It works. Maybe it's because of King's writing but they feel like they belong together. I really enjoyed Super Friends part 3 and 4 as well. Diana and Bruce always had a respectable relationship and nothing changes here. Very well done. I also enjoyed the hell out of Selina past interactions with Bruce and of course her trying on the wedding dresses.

Bad: The origins story of Bruce Wayne was kind of flat. It had a cool idea but went nowhere. I think it'll be interesting to see what becomes of him though. Also the poison Ivy story, while not bad, didn't really stick the landing for me.

So nothing terrible here. This is still a very solid collection for me. While I didn't love it like War/Engagement, I thought it was up there with I am Bane at a 3.5. I'll hit a 4 on here because I smiled a lot, and that's a good sign.

So yeah, Fables continues to be pretty boss. I guess the first few volumes didn't click with me but the last 3 sure have.

So this is mostly about getting Bigsby to come back to the farm. However, he can't do that because he's banned. If you don't remember he might have huffed and puffed and blown down some pig's houses and killed red riding hood. So when he comes back to fabletown he goes on a secret mission to help push the winning war for fabletown against the evils! Also there's a wedding. Oh and we top it off with Cinderella of all people going on a super spy mission. It's pretty badass!

Good: Pretty much everything of the first 4 issues is fantastic. The mission, the wedding, everything works and clicks. I love the relationships built, the families growing, and all of that mixed together. The ending, with Cinderella being a badass spy was pretty great too.

Bad: The Cinderella storyline, while cool, went on a few pages too long. Started to feel stretched out.

Overall another great volume. A easy 4 out of 5. I hope I keep enjoying this series as much as I am.

Review to come

More goodness with this series, yet still can't say I "LOVE" it.

So Alec has taken to space to declare war on the aliens that enslaved him and his people. However, once finding out that MAYBE not all of his people are actually dead. This is just one gigantic one man war against a alien race mixed with some uprising. It jumps from scene to scene, war to war, kill to kill very quickly.

Good: The pacing is so fast you can never be bored. The dialog is still pretty solid and the fights are epic in scope. I also do like the Manowar armor more and more. Reminds me of iron-man meets Guyver.

Bad: The art is okay. It kind of just feels flat sometimes. I also think the fights kind of go TOO quick that don't feel the weight of the fights.

This is fun for sure, and I'll probably keep going, I just hope I "Love" a volume but so far pretty good. A 3 out of 5.

I had a hard time rating this. Not because I didn't like it, or didn't like it, but because I feel indifferent about it. Almost...Inhuman...Okay I'll shut up now.

So what's it about? You get to learn who the Inhumans are. Why they are different. This is political warfare happening at all times. Humans scared, Inhumans trying to govern their own, plans upon plans, twist and turns, it's going to be a big brawl in the end that'll end in death and destruction which all that's left in the end.

Good: The art is fantastic. I also enjoyed some smaller moments, mostly characters coming to terms of who they are. I also enjoyed the political nature of it all in this title.

Bad: It's a slow burn. It takes a lot to get it going and it feels a bit stretched as it goes on.

Overall it's a unique title. I wouldn't say you "Had" to read it but it feels more "adult-only" title. Very little action but it's powerful stance on war and coming to terms of being a king are interesting. A 3.5 out of 5.

Another X-O Manowar, another solid addition to the series.

So now that Alec brought his people back to earth shit is not going well. What happens when a group of "aliens" come to earth and want to take a piece of land? Well Russia, and every other country, is like fuck that noise. So this means war. Not fall on shooting each other, but sneaky sneaky warfare, until it gets to the boiling point and breaks. We also get some big flashbacks to get to understand Alec and his fight also with a old friend, the Enternal warrior.

Good: This volume's political side actually brought in some interesting ideas. I also thought Alec slow growth is becoming interesting. A hard-headed warrior but he is slowly coming to the realization he can't always just rush into battle. I also thought the pause on big fights helped flush out everyone better.

Bad: The art still doesn't grab me. I also don't "love" any character so that makes it hard to get super attached to everyone.

Overall I still enjoy this series. I'd actually say this is my favorite volume so far. The series just hasn't grabbed me yet but it's still interesting and fun enough to keep going!
