Prophet's Prey goes into detail about the investigation into the FLDS and it's creep leader, Warren Jeffs. This book is packed full of information about the inner workings and activities of Warren Jeffs. I almost felt that I needed a notepad to keep notes for future reference. It was very detailed. Warren Jeffs is just a disgusting human being. He manipulated so many people and bullied them into bending to his will. He abused everyone around him, especially children and young women, in every way you can imagine. I think that Sam Brower did tremendous work on this case and this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the FLDS.

I picked this up to see what happened with Dave Pelzer after reading his first book. He really went through a lot of things. I thought this was a pretty good book, and I was glad to see that some things began to look up for him.

This book was about four dollars on Audible. I remember this trial from when I was a kid. Actually, I remember the police chase on tv, and I knew nothing about it until much later when my sister got into true crime. This book only took about two hours to listen to, which was great for waiting in the school pick up line. This book gave really good insight to what life on a high profile jury case was like. I never really thought about how difficult it must be to be sequestered during trials, especially ones that last for a long time. I can tell you that they would kick me right off a jury if I had to deal with some of these personality types that were mentioned in this book. I think anyone who is interested in the O J Simpson trial/fiasco would find this interesting.

This is the story of Corrie ten Boom, who endured capture and imprisonment in a concentration camp by the Nazi regime. Her ability to keep fighting to stay alive and attempt to see the positive in such a terrible situation was very inspiring. Her belief in God and His hand in all things really helped her through her ordeals. This was a good read.

The riot at Attica Prison began on September 09, 1971 and ended on September 13, 1971. The riot began when prisoners became fed up with their treatment. Even though people are incarcerated for all manner of things, there are still human rights in place. Torture, beatings, starvation and inedible food, and lack of medical care should not be allowed. During the riot, prisoners took forty two correctional officers and staff as hostages. Ultimately, ten correctional officers and staff were murdered. The authors father was the first noted death, having been beaten, later dying at the hospital. By most accounts, he was a kind and fair correctional officer and was well liked by inmates. Thirty three inmates were killed in the retaking of the prison by law enforcement officials.

I cannot imagine my parent being killed in any way, and them yanking me out of class to tell me before sending me back. What the kids of these employees went through is gross. Of course, the state did all manner of underhanded things to avoid being sued or having to pay out very much money. The lack of information and cover up of the truth in regards to what the families knew is typical and revolting. There were a lot of lawsuits from former inmates and their families, which really touched some nerves of the correctional staff and their families. I can imagine that it would be difficult to be on one side of the issue and have to see it from the other side. The fact of the matter is, there was certainly mistreatment of inmates going on. There was certainly a right for them to seek better treatment, however, because of the riot, other people lost their lives. Families on both sides of this issue were traumatized, lost family members, dealt with major issues and comments, and were slighted by the state government. I am glad to see that efforts were made to release more information to those involved and admit wrongdoings.

I got this book on Audible as part of buy one get one for one credit sale day, so that was great. This was not one of my favorite books that I picked out for this month, however, as I knew nothing about Attica beyond that it was a prison that had a riot at some point, I did learn quite a lot about the events surrounding it. It also makes one take a forced look at treatment of prisoners and what kind of things were meant to be changed as a result of this riot. If you are interested in this particular event, this would be a good book for you. It contains a lot of information beyond the personal account of Deanne Quinn, whose father was the first to die.

This book features a collection of short biographies of various princesses. Some of the stories I had heard, some I had not. I thought this would be a really scandalous and interesting book, but it really wasn't. If you haven't read extensively on royals and are looking for a quick read that is entertaining, this might be a good book for you. I wasn't bored reading it, but I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped to be.

This is the story of a female member of the Saudi royal family. Royal life in a middle eastern country is certainly not even close to what one would think most royal families are like. Sure, she has all of the perks... nice homes, clothes, cars, jewels... but she has no real freedom. She cannot drive. She cannot go out alone. She must remain covered. Her only real value is in the male children she gives birth to. I would hate to live this way, but it is very interesting to get an inside look into a different culture and way of life.

This book is the second installment of the Saudi royal family. This focus's on the daughters of Sultana from the first book. They both grow up in relative splendor and comfort, yet they are both extremely suppressed. Their lives would basically be reduced to an arranged marriage and attempting to birth as many sons as possible. Both of these daughters react to their circumstances in different ways. Again, I really enjoyed the look inside another culture, and I found it to be extremely interesting.

I have this entire set of books, and the common theme is supposed to show you what life is like inside of a royal Middle Eastern family. The underlying theme seems to be that women have it rough, which they do, and the men are mostly awful and privileged, which I would say a good percentage probably are. I cannot stand Sultana's brother or son, but in literally every single book, the most insufferable person is one of her daughter's. I have a severe dislike of Amani. I find her extremely frustrating...at least as frustrating as Sultana's brother. I will be glad to finish the next two books so I can stop being annoyed with these two.

In this third installment of the life of Sultana, she gives us another look inside her family. Her niece is married off to an old, abusive man. She is treated in an abhorrent manner. Sultana also discovers that another family member has a harem going on. I suppose a Saudi royal family has some wild cards in it the same as others. It is amazing what people get themselves into, especially when they think they have the protection of being a royal. Customs and religions are also so different around the world. This was an alright book. I need to read the rest of them, but I only have these three.
