Liking but not loving it

Fascinating premise, but I just wasn’t loving it

I got tired of the gross out imagery and wasn’t invested enough to keep up with the redundant pacing 

I like Jimenez's writing a lot and I wanted to like this, but MY GOD the character choices and the ableist and super stereotypical binary language sent me over the edge. Jason's character was seemingly wonderful, but he started coming off so desperate and

when he bought the ring right after they had had a huge fight, I quit

 

Also Sloan going camping wearing

a g string and them having sex in the tent COME ON

Also, the consistent use of crazy, insane, and lunatic to describe characters, especially female characters, was not it. And if I had to hear one more time about how manly Jason is I was going to scream. Thank you and good day

I had a hard time with the cusp between being a MG and a YA book. It was hard for me to settle into. I was intrigued by the premise but found myself losing interest as it went on 

The pacing wasn’t working for me and halfway through I just felt disinterested in finishing

I realized the “forbidden love” trope here wasn’t going to work for me

Just was not vibing with this one. Though it might have been me and not the book, but I may never know
