This has to be one of the easiest Murakami books out there. Like, I immediately understood it and the message it was telling me. So, I don't really know if that's a good thing or bad thing. I was listening to this when I was doing studio work overnight, so I finished it in one listen.
I really loved this book. I got it because I was excitedly getting into Japanese literature after reading a few Murakami books and really enjoyed it. I put it on my Christmas list and started reading it without even concretely knowing what it was about. Didn't really expect the robots, but the characters were fantastic.
I didn't expect to love this book, but I really loved this. I haven't read Jane Austin or anything really of the true classical era because I typically find women so boring there, but I really loved this. There were of course no real surprising (what, a vampire? I never suspected), but the characters were fascinating. While I know there were outdated Victorian ideals applied to Mina and Lucy, their characters in general were so powerful and wonderful. After reading it, I don't really see how vampires were made into something sexy or attractive and despite the sexualization of them (at least with this incarnation of vampires). Also interesting to me was how it spoke of child predation that was occuring in the era and the role of women, a taboo subject even today.
What a strange book. I liked it and can't believe why no one's really talking about it? Perhaps it's the sheer absurdity of it or the odd conclusion, but I loved the characters so much.
I loved this book more than I thought I would. I haven't read Vonnegut since 10th Grade when I read Slaughterhouse Five. I chose to read this book because I wanted to read more of his work and ended up really loving this book.
Per usual, Harry and co. were annoying. But this is one of my favorites (in both book and movie) and the characters here are so well-constructed.
Harry and co. was particularly frustrating in this book and I've never been a fan ansty teens. Although, trauma here is very real.
This was okay I guess. I've read better things, but it's such a classic read.
This was an okay book. I enjoyed it, but I was also a bit pre-occupied when listening to it. Very body-snatcher-like
