Weird book. The ending fell kind of flat, but I didn't anticipate it, so... I suppose it was very suspenseful.
Graphic: Violence, Blood
Moderate: Animal death, Sexual violence, Torture, Murder
Minor: Alcoholism, Animal cruelty, Death, Car accident, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury, Gaslighting
I wanted so badly to finish it, I love the author & I had so many hopes for the book, I think the SA storyline was too much for me. I need to stop for my own well-being
Moderate: Rape, Self harm, Suicidal thoughts
I am holiday romanced out babes :( most disappointing thing about this year & I'm just short of crying about it (my period's just about here)
I hate Spotify's audiobook feature :( also I got sick of holiday romances

Made me laugh & then it made me cry & then it made me laugh while I cried so, yeah, 5 stars. 7 stars if I could because of the lesbians. #pride
I loved every single one of the characters, at least the ones that mattered. I loved the found family aspect at the end; the growth & development, although slightly too fast-paced to be realistic imo, was super slaytastic. I love Jack & I love Andrew & Dylan, also the MC was sickeningly relatable I was almost like omg... that's me, like, what are y'all doing here?! & by here I mean in my brain!!
F*ck Linds, f*ck Jed, I am glad they didn't make a comeback. I am sad that Elliedidnt get her $200,000 but it is okay I guess... bc she has friends now or whatever... oh also the silly little thing Jack did at the end was silly & annoying & I swear I was fully prepared to give the book a 1-star review had it not been resolved but omg last 2 pages were perfect! Love it! I love lesbians!
Oh & I extra love smutty lesbians, like a 🌶️🌶️ but slay guys I love you #represent #lgbtqia #lesbians #ilovelesbians #lesbiansunite
PS Ellie was a bisexual, but Jack was a lesbian so slay love you Jack slay I'm also a lesbian too slay

I must be feeling in a very generous mood (it must be the Christmas spirit) but this was really sweet & cute. The audiobook was fun, & even though I didn't love the narrator's accent for Shelby, she did a really great job! & the accent wasn't a huge turn-off, just made me laugh a bit. The ending, specifically the concluding sentence, made me cackle because why are you saying this is the best Christmas ever when 3 people have died, somebody attempted to murder you 2x, your close friend was framed for murder (& also taken advantage of & lowkey emotionally abused by her employer), & also your 2 closest friends then accused each other of murder?! If that has thus far been your favorite Christmas ever, I feel like you should probably reevaluate what the holiday season is all about anyways I'm ending this review before I change my mind sleigh
PS this is extremely unrelated but also semi-related bc I love cozy murder mysteries but the most unrealistic part of every single one is that the cops are great & are genuinely there to help. #fuckthepolice #stoptheprisonindustrialcomplex

Minor: Emotional abuse, Murder
Due at the library & I didn't like it enough to actually try & finish it. Lucas is boring asf, I already hate the "jealous" aspect, I don't care if they hate each other or not I just think they need to shut up, FMC is somehow boring yet obnoxious; she's self-absorbed yet her entire personality is just her only ever doing things to help others (& we all know how fond I am of the whole people pleaser shtick -- hint: it's not at all)...also grumpy x sunshine only ever piques my interest if the grumpy = FMC because I keep thinking, "You're a man & you are hanging out with this beautiful, kind, positive woman & all you can muster up the energy for is a vibe so crusty & musty that you are universally known as the man who can only work behind-counters because of how rude he is to everyone? Shut up. Grow up. You're ugly. & you have too many muscles." Seriously, are women actually into the obscenely muscular bordering-on-bodybuilder look? Hmmmmmmm okay then...
Lots of opinion from somebody who didn't read the book but before I go, I will say that there was most definitely a reason why this was set as a "skip the line" copy on Libby (cause it's meh)
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! No but I just remembered that Izzy also mentions the pandemic every 10 pages which is not super slay of her at all (obviously it was a major thing, from a social/emotional & even historical perspective, but it's not my thing & gives me the book ick) so between that & the Lucas ick (& frankly, the Izzy ick too), this one's gonna be a naur from me folks.
