Natalie Haynes single handedly got be back into reading in 2021 and is still just as amazing in 2023!
This is an incredible resource on some of the most well known women in Greek Mythology.
Haynes fills in gaps and brings to light aspects of their stories that are rarely highlighted.
It’s a slightly funny & insightful read.
“We cannot hope to make sense of our stories or ourselves, myths are a mirror of us after all, if we refuse to look at half of the picture or worst don’t even notice half of it is missing”

This was a captivating quick read.
Although it’s fair to assumed that a short book (or novella) will be fast pace, I have found that not all excel at being enthralling like this was.
The story has a strong resemblance to Grimm/childhood cautionary fairytales. Which added a level of mystery yet certainty that traditional fairytales have.
Moreno Garcia did an amazing job at creating this world and developing FMC Judith in less than 50 pages.
Thank you to NetGalley for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

First part with the soldier genuinely made me sick to my stomach.
However, the second part with the modern woman following a story was educational and timely to read as the genocide in Gaza occurs.
I will say I liked how modern day woman’s story had parallels to the 1949 woman. Although sad, showed how much somethings haven’t changed for Palestinians.
Thanks to Libro.fm for making this audio temporarily free at a time when Palestinian voices, like Shibli are being silenced and undervalued.

Since Minotaur Books is an imprint of St. Martin I will not be continuing this audiobook nor providing a review due to their recent remarks and then silence regarding Palestine.
Nonetheless, I would like to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this opportunity.

This was so boring for such a short book. Took me about 60% to actually get into it.
But those last 40% were a satisfying conclusion.
I will say the humor was very sly and quirky and I did enjoy it as well as the dark surrounding of the house.
I have not read The fall of the house of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe so I cannot speak to how it measures up.

This had some good prose and realistic depictions of depression & anxiety.
However, it was incredibly tedious!!
The repetitive nature of the plot and the way the author would describe things made this book feel 5 times longer. Which I think was to the detriment of the message it was trying to get across.
It felt more preachy and less cathartically uplifting.

I had the best time reading this!!
Love love loved that Chloe Gong brought back some of the best from the old gang and gave us more of their story.
This was a fun, adventurous and satisfactory read. Gong is a master at intertwining historical politics and magical realism & this was no exception.
This book falls easily back into the Violent Delights world & expands on it gracefully. I may even like this more than the original duology.
Obsessed with every character and need to read Foul Heart Huntsman asap!
