This book used delicious allegory to hit on a lot of heavy topics like colonization, displacement, generational trauma, gender politics, ED, and more. I totally devoured it!
That being said, significant parts felt a little too drawn out and were somewhat uninteresting to me, while the meatier bits went by too quickly for my tastes.
Selfishly, I was hoping for more carnality from this vampiric literary horror, but if you prefer your dark stories a little more tame, I would recommend this in a mouthwatering heartbeat.
Will absolutely read from Claire Kohda again.

2.75 rounded up to 3 because I have a suspicion I might have enjoyed this more had I read it physically and not endured through some cringey audiobook narration.
What I can honestly say is, despite some qualms, I had a fun time with this and that’s really all I look for going into a contemporary romance.

This one really didn’t work for me. It read very slowly despite being a short novel, and I found it rather uninteresting. The “twist” was predictable and could have been built upon far more. I could go on but I don’t want to think about this book anymore
