Loved this one. The tension and back and forth between Wes’ and Sophia’s personalities was perfect and the brokenness and grief that they shared but struggled thru together was heartfelt and pulled you in on both their sides. It had a really great dynamic with both their stubbornness but honest struggle.

Also loved the friendship the 3 men had together and how protective they were. The support they and the whole community have Wes and Sophia was beautiful.

This was an interesting take on a civilian, pseudo-journalist traveling around the world and getting stuck in Italy during WW2, while adding some humor and wit in Sally’s attitude. The first half of the book was a little slow for me but I liked the 2nd half. It showed the resilience of the Italian people and how hard it was to figure out who to trust under the division and betrayal of Fascism.

Honestly, though, it had sort of a weird feel to it, some wit and humor but sparsely mixed in here and there. It gave Sally an irreverent feel which I think is what the book was going for, but inconsistently. It was also hard to get a gauge on other characters in the book because of all the superficiality in circles she was in, and there were so many changing locations, characters, and even quickly changing attitudes that made it hard to keep up with or get invested in. It sort of made a lot of it feel a little surface-y.

Super cute and endearing. Love the marriage of convenience focus and the learning to navigate a fake relationship turned real. I felt like it sort of breezed thru the process a little more than I’d like and some of the awkwardness was a little odd but the story was good overall.

This was both a great storyline and a lot of fun as an audiobook. The audio had Dolly Parton as one of the voices as well as different voices for each of the characters. In basically every other audiobook I’ve listened to it’s all the same voice (outside of multi authors) so this sort of lended a little more reality to the story.

There were some weird spots in the story like the ending wrapping up really fast compared to the rest and a couple gaps when it ended which is the only reason I dropped a star but I still liked it a lot.

Excellent retelling about a snippet of Ravensbruck with the Rabbits. I loved the writing style - it had a real conversational and irreverent feel to it. Amusing at times and raw at others.

I’ve read about the Rabbits before in a couple other books and I think it’s such an important thing to remember beyond the normal concentration camp stories. This book looked at an overview of their scenario but mostly focused on the companionship and loyalty the group of women had with each other that is just so notable. It highlights how much we need each other to survive difficult and especially horrendous things, and makes the good things more enjoyable. Love a good book about women’s friendships.
