This was shallow, unrealistic and distasteful. It tried to promote itself as an overweight-acceptance book but thru so much of it, she was ruminating about body-shaming herself one second, and accepting the next, just to go back again and obsess in detail. It was often played off as trying to be funny but it wasn’t in the least. It just felt depressing.

For unrealistic, I don’t know of too many startups that make it in NYC for a 20-30 something. It seemed like everything miraculously worked out for Sunny and just wasn’t believable. 

And thru the whole book, she was basically just interested in one one-night stand after another. Then blogged about her sexual exploits - in a newsletter! - which felt insane and so so cringey. Who does that??

Multiple times I almost DNFd it and should have done it at the first. Really hated it.

I totally lost interest in this one. There wasn't much tying you to the characters, they were just sort of... there... no real connection, development, etc. And it was super weird how the agents/law enforcement had to "think" what the translation of acronyms or other technical words were as if they were ignorant and rookies. I get that it was for the readers benefit but there are better ways to weave that in than make you think the characters are too dumb to just know. 

That went downhill fast… so cringey - not a fan of the MMC. DNF’d at 12%. 

DNF at 26%. I wasn’t a fan of the characters and the whole thing felt so abrupt at the start, like I was just thrown into the story. It had very little real character development and was just really repetitive.

But, ugh, the new cover is so gorgeous it makes me want to like it….

DNF at 26%. I'm sorry but I just don't get it... It's like a Hunger Games ripoff which was the biggest turn off for me. Also Kai's character is so inconsistent he felt completely unbelievable between actions and reputation/thoughts, it felt like he was schizophrenic almost. And Paedyn's character is just annoying with how spiteful and angry she is, without asking any questions or considering something isn't at face value, which is really ironic given her supposed talent at reading people.

It was just so repetitive and surface level, I gave up. It felt like we kept filling the space with a repeat of the same phrases and cases and the avoidance of talking about the jinx thing - for anyone - just didn’t make sense. 

I gave up. It annoyed me so much and there are just so many better things I want to read. Every female character in this book is whiney and petty. Especially the main character. 

She’s supposed to be a notorious (the best) assassin but she complains that the floor is too cold, that her clothes are ugly, and that no one knows who she is or compliments her. She even states that she’d “rather be hated than invisible”, and Caoel had to explain to her why it’s good to be underestimated. Seriously?? How has she even survived? Maybe she needs to think of a career change if that’s the case since that is kind of whole basis of a good assassin…. DNF at 41%

Just a lot of uber Christian-ese phrases and thought processes without depth at least in the first 10% and weird family dynamics that got annoying. Lost interest fast 

Well that took a turn…. I liked Diem in the first book and absolutely hated her in this one. She was so incredibly mean to Luther, to the point of cruel when he was the most upstanding and best character in the book IMO. I wanted to slap her so often, the book just made me angry (obviously) and I DNF’d it at 62% after reading the other reviewers that the rest of the book is the same. 

The plot itself was good and I wanted to know what was going to happen, how everything was going to pan out, the dialogue was good (aside from the unfounded angst), but Diem made such a gross deviation from the first book I couldn’t do it. The selfless recklessness and passion she had in the first book was for others and for justice, but with empathy. This one it was reckless to the point of stupidity and cruelty, full of the prejudice that she hated in others, and with constantly taking any suggestion someone made about anyone else’s character or motives to her as gospel without evaluating whether it lined up with someone’s character. I just don’t get it. 

Just had a hard time keeping interest. The character felt  a little too modern I guess for the time, and a little too irreverent to be realistic.
