All in all I thought it was a good murder mystery that had lots of plot twists, red herrings, and interesting side themes of rehab, mental health, and friendship. 

There were parts that at times felt a little unrealistic, and Meg was more than a little high strung and reckless but that was the point of her character so it felt like it fit for me. 

I liked how the sense of people needing each other and needing community was highlighted. It’s easy in thrillers and murder mysteries for them to be a sort of every man for himself and this didn’t do that. 

It sort of had an escape room type of feel many times, and I thought it was a good, diverse set of characters. The scenes were well described and the addiction and withdrawal process was done in a realistic way that let me relate to what was going on, not making it too simple, but not overdone either. 

Overall I enjoyed it and thought it was well written and thought out. 

This felt more like the 1st book with plenty to keep the book moving and interesting, and character development to have you invested in it. It was harder to put down and didn’t have the lags that I felt like most of the previous in between books have had. 

I thought the 2 (or 3) timelines and events of Jamie/Claire et al, versus Roger/Brianna had a good balance and was interesting, letting your mind compare what you knew already to what was happening from a different perspective.

The information and description in the book was well portrayed and thoughtfully laid out. The Warsaw Ghetto has been written about a number of times, but there were things like the bath house event, the in-ghetto soup kitchen, and other things I had not previously read about. 

The book overall though, was really slow, and I felt a bit disconnected from it. It seemed more to revolve around events with the characters in the moment and then advance later to another event without any connection or bridge in between to show how the characters felt or grew or changed since. There just wasn’t much character development I felt like, so it was more like watching things happen from the outside rather than being invited to walk with the characters. 

I liked the information and how well it conveyed the atrocities of Warsaw under the Nazi’s, but it wasn’t one I felt invested in or connected to.

Definitely had some good mystery and creepiness going on, and some interesting twists by the end of it. Well written and thought it was well laid out with both timelines.

The murder mystery itself was interesting but it was so long and drawn out, so overly contemplative and peripherally-detailed that I honestly lost the plot till the end. And a lot of it I saw coming overall so while the details weren’t clear, not unpredictable. Also I feel so bad for Polly.
