Belinda Blinked 2 is more delicious than pomegranates. More delicious than the flesh of mankind. Than spaghetti sauce or turkey sandwiches even. I raise a glass of Chilean chardonnay to you, Mr Flintstone.
It's no exaggeration to say that Carrie Fisher was a hero of mine. Like everyone on this planet, I loved her in Star Wars, her stage show Wishful Drinking had me howling with laughter, and I devoured her every appearance on Graham Norton or The Last Leg. But I'd never read her books. I'd bought Postcards from the Edge a while ago, but Fisher's recent death immediately had me moving it to the top of my TBR pile. A semi-autobiographical work of fiction about a Hollywood actress struggling with drug addiction, this book is filled with Fisher's trademark wit, intelligence, and frankness. She neither glorifies nor demonises the film industry, and her characters are chiefly people before they are addicts. This makes Postcards from the Edge feel like a very honest read. It comes from a place of sincerity and experience, yet it is wickedly, wickedly funny. I'm curious to read Fisher's non-fiction and define where Susanne Vale ends and Carrie Fisher begins. I'm so happy that, in the absence of Carrie from our lives, I still have an entire literary journey to take with her.
I can't review this yet. I can't formulate the words to express how much I loved this book. I wish there was an option for more than 5 stars. I'm going to be thinking about this for a long time.
