I never cared much for Maurice Gee is a child and now as an adult I must recant my opinion.

Utterly brilliant, completely gripping and unabashedly a New Zealand novel.

Brilliant, but I struggled. I was very conscious I was reading a translation. Reading a novel where the direct impacts of the patriarchy on women’s lives is never a fun an enjoyable time. I am curious about what comes next but won’t be diving into the quartet for some time.
