Tender, episodic, raindrop-like poems that give you a glimpse of grief, love, fatigue, frustration, and sorrow. I re-read The Bride Stripped Bare about five times. 

These are beautiful lyrical poems. I read them knowing of Claude McKay but not having read anything by him. 100% worth your time but written in a style that admire rather than enjoy 

Exes and O's was a very slow burn for me. Although I think the premise of the story, where the main character Tara reconnects with all her exes in the chance of a second-time romance, is fun, I didn't vibe with the characters at the beginning and almost DNF'd. For me, it's worth sticking with it because Trevor is a delight and Tara becomes really likeable as the book goes on. There's also excellent relationships with side characters, some fun steam, and a really believeable friendship framework around them. 

My biggest criticism of this book is that Tara was (to me) quite unlikeable at the beginning and I felt that she was repeatedly presented as "crazy" and "clingy" and as though she actually was all the sexist dogwhistles that she was being called. I think Amy Lea slightly overdoes that. 

I did giggle and enjoy the second half very much so worth your time if you like contemporary romance. In a similar space to the Brown sisters trilogy but not quite as strong as Get a Life, Chloe Brown. 

Ahh I really loved these poems. I didn’t know I needed a queer Lock Ness monster but somehow I feel like I know myself better? Gender fluid, trans, queer reimaginings of Scottish folk creatures and myths. Deeply accessible in style. Adored

This is an immense debut. The chapters merge the interpersonal relationships of a mother and daughter as the mother is dying from cancer. But there is an interloping voice, disembodied and impish, that slowly takes over the novel. In the audiobook, this is performed by Tamsin Grieg and she is absolutely incredible at interpreting this witchy mysterious vicious unknown that could be the cancer but could be something else. 

I found the changes of pace a bit inconsistent and was most captured by one part of the book. Nonetheless, it is epic, clever, messy, and bitter. Clearly, an author to watch. 

Blurbed as Becky Chambers meets a Western, Frontier is actually a space opera about a post climate change earth featuring cult religions, untrustworthy law enforcement, and outlaw shenanigans. The story is non-linear and sometimes a bit confusing or patchy but I happily consumed it. An easy read for a bit of dystopian themed but chaotic drama. Audio narrator is good. 

I hope people read the reviews because I think it’s an enjoyable read but misrepresented and will get bad press because it’s not what people thought. 

If Poirot were a crip tech genius Paris Hilton travelling with a support dog and her handsome new spouse, and he got embroiled in a murder mystery on a luxury spaceship travelling to Mars. Cute, compelling, a lot of fun. Excellent audiobook. I love her dog so much. The dog love in this story is real.

Does give strong eat the rich vibes though.
