This is a letter from a woman describing her life around and after her husband takes a second wife. Bâ covers sadness, family, duty, rage, and gender roles in a Senegalese Muslim family. It's feisty and sometimes funny as well as sad. Although the translation is great, I did wonder how much more lyrical her writing might be in French.

“All I know is, my black body is a temple - it is beautiful, independent and mine.” This book covers a vast amount in a short page count. It talks about personal experience and societal tropes as well as how to navigate them. I especially loved the “Create Your Dream Fat Protagonist Challenge”.

This may be the most pure YA novel I have ever read and I hate high school stuff. My heart felt a lot as I have never seen Sickle Cell represented in a novel before. Queer. Cute af. Go and spend money on it.
