This is a letter from a woman describing her life around and after her husband takes a second wife. Bâ covers sadness, family, duty, rage, and gender roles in a Senegalese Muslim family. It's feisty and sometimes funny as well as sad. Although the translation is great, I did wonder how much more lyrical her writing might be in French.
