Claudia Jones: Beyond Containment: Autobiographical Reflections, Essays, and Poems
Carole Boyce Davies, Claudia Jones
I wish I could give this book more stars. It's stunning. Intense, visceral. Especially pointed if you are queer and come from a similar or parallel Black community like I do. I didn't know I could feel affirmed by a book while it stomped unapologetically all over my feelings. The writing is amazing. It's a beautiful, queer, tragic jigsaw forming a picture you need to see and want to see but are also frightened of because you know it's going to be painful in its beauty.
This is like *nearly 5 star* for me. There’s a really short section of the story that is less engaging and there is a similar plot development to the first book. Nonetheless I loved this and I am SO READY to read the third one. My only comment is that I loved Lilith in Dawn and was sad we get a lot less of her in this.
An emotional 5*s for me. I was really gripped by part two although one of my favourite characters is left in Book One and my absolute fave doesn’t make it to the end of Book 2. Hoa is a brilliant edition. I get really drawn in despite myself.
