Unfortunately this one didn’t work for me. The two storylines took a really long time to connect and were mostly disjointed. The big twist was pretty unbelievable and seemed a bit lazy. It just didn’t make sense within the story. And then everything wrapped up way too neatly at the end with no suffering from any sort of trauma. ⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

If you read only one book this year, read this one. Kendi’s history of racist thoughts in our country is accessible and illuminating. To see the way racism came over with the Puritans and evolved and shifted into what it is today is heart rendering and enraging. The injustice in our world is not new. It just masquerades as justice.

This was a captivating YA fantasy. Strong characters, missing magic, a quest to reclaim it, sworn enemies - what more could you want? Set in a lush Arabic culture, this was a delight to sink into. I’m eagerly anticipating the release of Book 2 in January 2021. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley

I’m a sucker for a good kidnapping story and this was no exception. Some of the twists were a smidge unbelievable, but sort of in the way that horrible things always seem to be beyond the realm of possibility. I was hooked from the first page to the last. And the descriptions of anxiety? Spot on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

Three stars because I was invested in the plot, but the use of mental illness here was weird at best. Maybe it’s because I’ve read a few books lately operating on a similar twist, but it’s cheap and degrading to women who have actually experienced that event (trying to be vague and avoid spoilers). It was a great concept but I would have liked it to rely less on exploitive tropes. #netgalley

A beautiful setting full of horrible people! I hated every single one of these characters.

After the disappointment of LOCK EVERY DOOR, Sager is back on his game with his fourth book! With strong Amityville influences, he spins a tale of ghosts and secrets and hauntings both real and imagined. The dual perspectives were equally gripping. An absolute delight. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
