Wow! This was incredibly moving and lovely to read. I love graphic memoirs because you can get so much more out of a mix of text and images. The illustrations make this book hit a note that felt like reading Fun Home or Maus. Truly a gift to read

It was cute! I didn’t super understand the attraction between the love interests some of the time, and at multiple points kind of felt like they shouldn’t end up together. But I liked how much it called out racism and I liked the plot well enough, too!

3.5 TW: Homophobia, sexual assault, victim blaming. I’m still forming my thoughts. I didn’t love this the way everyone else I know seems to. It was good but there was a lot more heavy subject matter than I was totally prepared for and I’m not sure about the side story at all.

I really love a good villain backstory. I like my villains morally corrupt and completely blind to that corruption. I love villains who are absolutely completely sure that they are the heroes of their own story. Meyer writers truly complex truly amazing villains. TW: sexual and emotional manipulation, non-consensual (rape) sex.

I mean..... I just really don’t like Georgia? I really wanted to but I just didn’t. Pony was fine but I never really understood what there was to like about Georgia. It sorta soured the book for me.

This is a must read poetry book for me. Moving and current, there is so much to dive into. I cried, it moved me that much. Truly a work of art.

A very good and important book. A history of how women (particularly southern women) owned and profited from slavery and how that ownership led to their ultimate involvement in white supremacy movements and Jim Crow laws. This book is so necessary, as white women often paint themselves as helpless witnesses to anti-blackness and slavery. As the book makes the reader understand, no one was forcing these women's hands. They knew what they were doing and knew how to profit from it. This book is something all white women should read.

This is a very good primer and the journal prompts are useful but it doesn’t go as deep into the issues as other books. I would read this in addition to other works on anti-racism

3.5 I really wanted to love this. It had a lot in it that I could have loved. What I didn't love was the narrative style. I think it has merit but I don't think it was for me. It had so much beautifully in it but overall I had a hard time with how often it skips time. There'a lot of characters to keep track of and they slip in and out of the story enough that I forget who some of them are. Still, the themes are lovely and there are times when the writing was fantastic. It just wasn't for me.
