Awww, did a wealthy white lady figure out that capitalism is bad??? Did you have a bad time cosplaying as a poor person? How sad for you, how hard, and how brave of you to write about it from your rich as POV. Fuck this book, and fuck the fact that it is required reading in some class rooms. Other, actual poor people have approached this topic with more grace and empathy than this. The fact that she had to be in these jobs to realize people in them deserved respect is frustrating as fuck. Don't bother.

Good world building, decent characters, but could have used a better plot and a little more editing. I didn't love it but I still enjoyed reading it! A lot of it was pretty predictable but the world was good enough and the characters good enough that it kept me going. I'm not sure I'm ready to ready the rest of the series but I'm still glad I read this one.

I'm super disappointed that this book wasn't higher on my list. It had a lot of good bones to the story but the body itself was predictable and a bit bland. I think this boils down mostly to a combination of an exceptional predictable plot and characters that don't ever fully feel realized and whole. Overall, I'm left feeling almost nothing which is always the worst way to feel after the end of a book you were looking forward to.

Maybe my favorite of the series so far, I think it handled the length a lot better than the other ones did, with things both wrapping up and not wrapping up as necessary. For sure my favorite re: character development.

Another fantastic read. Just the right amount of terrifying with enough gore to be in vein of horror but also subtle enough not to turn me off. I really enjoyed reading this which never surprises me any more with Jones who is quickly becoming my favorite. 

I liked this well enough. I think there were times when the POVs didn't work for me or I didn't find them interesting which is why it's a four. I can't really explain otherwise why this isn't a five other than that there were parts that left pretty bad tastes in my mouth. I did really enjoy it overall though.

While the actual writing in this story is beautiful, maybe the best of Mafi's work, the story is... lackluster. So many threads left dangling, so much unresolved. I'm not saying that I don't understand the almost hyper realistic nature of this story necessitates an extremely open ended story, but it just does not work for me. I don't understand what Noah is doing in this story at all. I don't understand why we never get a resolution about pretty much any of the family drama. The only story that has any sort of wrap up is the romance which is too bad. But again, the actual writing is stunningly beautiful. So much so I'm willing to put this up to a three because there were times when I got lost in the words and forgot that nothing was really happening in the story

This was very solid, if a little slow in parts. The bits that dragged were really hard to get through, which is why it's a three for me. But the characters are great, the world building is fantastic, I would have loved to have loved this one, but it's just pretty good for me.
