I actually really enjoyed this! Love watching characters dig into their childhoods to start to heal as adults. Doing the inner work to make a partnership better and stronger

Shut uppppp this was so cute. The epilogue had me grinning like an idiot 🥹🥰

Some additional things from the book that I feel obliged to mention:

  • he gets multiple raging hard ons but also doesn’t blush (this is mentioned several times) and obviously is cold with no heartbeat
    • No explanation is ever offered to explain how he is able to have an erection at all
  • he can’t orgasm unless there’s “blood involved” so he doesn’t want to actually fuck her because he’s “afraid he’ll lose control” so he’s like losing his mind BUT she decides she can fix this problem by BLOWING HIM (how is blowing him different than P in V penetration in this context? No idea) and the reasoning she gives is because it’s helped previous boyfriends last longer in bed if there’s a preemptive orgasm
    • GIRLY POP, that’s not the solution you think it is for this particular thing?
      • Anyway so while blowing him, she makes him bite her thumb and that works apparently? And he doesn’t take enough to hurt her?
      • You may be asking: “Why didn’t he just stick a twisty straw into a bag of blood from the mini drinks fridge he has in his room as a mid coitus refresher?” And let’s just say…I have no idea.
  • He tells her she “smells different when she’s aroused” LMAO BRO is that the only way you can tell???? In the context of the scene it’s implied that that’s how he knew she wanted him, which….what?
  • Each vampire has a random “gift” (no explanation as to the logistics here) so his friend can FLY but his gift is that he grows fruit??? And when he’s nervous, that random fruit grows faster?
    • There’s literally a “forbidden room” in the house that’s mentioned SEVERAL times that smells fruity when you walk by it and it’s because fucking pineapple and kumquats grow in it???! And that’s the entire secret?!?
    • Don’t worry though! Every week he donates it to the food bank.
      • I don’t know why this was specifically explained to us when there was literally no additional context about these random powers or how they’re dispersed?
  • I don’t think the daylight hurts these vampires? The only thing that makes them vampires is that they have a random ass power and are immortal. Daylight, mirrors, crosses, stakes, etc don’t seem to make any difference? There wasn’t even a scene about eating garlicky food which honestly feels like a massively squandered opportunity
    • There’s a conversation that happens when they watch Buffy together about what these shows “get right” about vampires and he basically says “they’re right that we’re broody” and because that ONE thing matches up, it’s implied that there was at least one vampire in the Buffy writers room

Okay I actually liked this quite a bit.

Trans kids being introduced without fanfare (and without their trans-ness being the only focus of their character) and pronouns and sweet characters and very REAL depictions of adhd.

Also it was pretty hot.

Alex’s adhd is so similar to mine! It was written about really well and explained it in ways I’ve never been able to.
All in all, this was entertaining and a lot of fun. They were both annoying at times but them jumping to conclusions made sense with their characters. I loved that Ren had a personality and that she existed beyond being fat— I was really worried going into it that her fatness would be the main focus or that she would hate herself because of it.

I probably didn’t give this a fair enough shot, but I couldn’t handle the writing style (telling instead of showing, general obtuseness of the FMC…it felt like a bad tv show episode where a character has to say “WOW haha good thing I had your spare set of keys otherwise you’d be in jail rn!!!!” And then the thing is never mentioned again).

Maybe it was a character choice that the girl refuses to say “tits”, but “FUN BITS”?? And “over the shoulder…you know…”
Get a grip.

And THEN when she met the guy and shook hands with him, his hands were apparently SO big that it was described as looking like a child’s hand when enveloped in his. Which, gross, but not that unusual for books to do. But that PLUS all of the additional sexualizing he does of the main girl before they even have a conversation and he has electric blue eyes and is BROODY.

I just couldn’t do it.

This is the first friends to lovers I’ve ever read that so closely mirrors mine and Kris’ friendship before we ever dated 🥹
The feeling of “You are more important to me than anything, and even if I can never date you and I watch you settle down with someone else, I will continue to be your best friend because I never want to lose you or your friendship”

“You and I? We’re neverending.”

“Riley is in love with you. I listened to the show. Oh, darling, you’ve waited so long”

Katherine Center NEVER misses!

Now THAT’S what I’d call a better written, horny book!! (I read this right after Icebreaker which LET ME TELL YOU, was a trial)

Definitely don’t understand what Cassie’s actual job was, since she didn’t really seem to do much, but it was a cute enough story. I don’t get why they had to be fucking all the time though. Can you guys talk first??? About anything????

The phrase “they took a deep breath only to release it quickly through their mouth” was used no fewer than 10 times

SIDENOTE: I know I had a fucked up childhood, but are kids still like that when they’re 9? Like playgrounds and stuff?
If so, it’s so happy for me to read about a kid who gets to do that?!?!?
