This was brilliant. I went into it being skeptical because I couldn’t understand the description of “lovers to enemies to lovers”, but it made a lot of sense. I actually feel like this is a situation that happens more often than is often recognized. Sometimes it’s easy to forget your love for someone. Sometimes you just need to be reminded.

It’s dumb, but it honestly opened my eyes to where I may be blind in my own relationship, and reminded me that relationships are two way streets. You can’t be upset when someone doesn’t “put in effort” if you also don’t put any effort in or make explicit requests.

So the author really named him Beat for the sole purpose of being able to include “there is no Beat without a Melody”, huh? (Also isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? I may be misremembering which one said it)

ANYWAY.

Beat is tortured, broody, angsty, possessive, and just a bit serial killer-y certainly a character in this book. Also got big “went to BYU” ExMo energy from him with the denial (/punishing himself for having sex in the first place) kink and the whole “

thing. That second thing for sure.

The sex scenes were honestly kind of hard to follow because none of it seemed natural or possible? Like when the mechanics are off.

All that to say, I did love the movie shown at the beginning of the reunion. That included some really sweet moments and definitely made me feel less weird that they’re two 30 years ago olds who can’t communicate to save their lives and have decided they’re soulmates and just skipping dating altogether. But then the actual ending of the book just made me groan

“How to catfish a baseball player and make him cry”

The reviews attached to lower ratings did make some good points, but wow, I need more baseball smut in my life.

Chris is fucking precious and I just wanted to protect his sweet little heart the whole time.

Be still, my beating heart! I’m such a slut for P&P retellings, and this may just take the cake! A burlesque club was a genius upgrade, and I loved the changes made to the original.
Jane and Charles! Kitten and Darcy!
