ugh this book was so good i had to keep from crying in front of 3rd grade while reading this! was so moved by resilience's inner monologue and his relationship with xander, rania, fly, guardian, journey, and sophie. what a wonderful narrative story to capture kids with science and share the importance of nasa.

took longer to read than i would have liked but i loved the dystopian elements of this story! the portrayal of community, or rather lack thereof, in prison systems was really done. sooo fascinated by the concept of the privatization and exploitation of dreams and the governments supposed interest in minimizing crime.

RF Kuang does it again with a story I could not put down. A romance heart, Katabasis is about two graduate students as they journey to Hell to retrieve their asshole advisor they both had a hand in killing. The twists were shocking and while I feared this book would be too long, the incredible prose, complex plot, and heartwarming characters ultimately made it a quick read. Can't wait for this to come out so I can force all my friends to read another book by her.

What is with authors not using quotation marks? very interesting consideration of capitalism, community, religion, and place. I liked the organization of the book, going back and forth between before the pandemic and during it. The way Shen Flu manifests is so interesting and obviously the parallels between the COVID-19 pandemic are stark. Would recommend and excited to discuss at fun silly little book club tonight.
