This was one of the few books on the Oprah list that brought a little sunshine into life.
this book was great! I think that Brian Jacques is a fabulous writer.
Nothing about this one really held me... The puzzles felt far less thought out than the prior books and it felt like the main character lucked into everything really. Also, the financial matters felt weirdly handled. But hey, I'm glad to have finished it. If was fun and that's all one needs from a book really. Imo.
Bray wrote an... interesting work. I really enjoyed parts of it, but it had many asides that were of little to no interest to me and broke my emersion in the parts of the story and world that I enjoyed. I thought the characters were all reasonable and fun and I thought the ending was pretty darn good. This isn't a book I would typically pick up or find intriguing based on the synopsis. But Bray wrote a very solid, fun, and reflective (while still being light) piece of literature. A fun read and maybe even more so if read on a vacation. To those who are a bit more into fashion and alternate pop-culture, this could be the kind of read you have always searched for.
Nothing about this story drew me to read it and honestly if it wasn't for TP requiring this for another event, I probably would not have gotten to it ever considering how many other stories grab me. But... I got into it and read through it quicker than most other stories. It was very fast-paced, fun, and I liked the side characters a lot! I had a hard time with the protagonist as there were many many instances where I wanted to yell at her "duh, the mafia!". Like... she just did not get that there was danger and why everyone was being as sparse with information and assistance as they were. I really enjoyed the emphasis made on the main character having time traveled though as it helped make her less frustrating... even if I couldn't ultimately get over it.
Overall, very solid read and enjoyed it even though this kind of story isn't typically my cup of tea.

I really loved how unique the main character felt and I enjoyed the focus on biology.
I am going to need some time to process this read. But my God. McCurdy tells her story in a powerful, provoking, well written, and introspective way. The pacing was wonderful. Despite the deep and hard-hitting moments almost every chapter held, I could not put the book down. I would highly recommend listening to this book. She reads it herself and I cannot believe her bravery in going to therapy and unpacking her childhood privately, much less writing a book and narrating it for the world.
The book deals heavily with mental illness, abuse, and eating disorders. If someone can pace themselves and handle such topics, I highly recommend this book.
