Forever . . .

Judy Blume

I just don't care at all for these self assured teenagers who think and feel like adults (I literally had to Google if they were seniors in high-school or college). There is no tension, no joy in their romance. It is quick and rather painless and I just don't emotionally connect with this compared to the reality of my own teenage experiences.

The Optimist's Daughter

The author reads this audiobook... She is in no way a professional narrator so I don't want to be harsh. But her accent (American southern), pacing, and a lisp makes this audiobook very tough for me to take in. I will definitely miss things if I read this way. So I'm dnfing to get a print version.

This audiobook is just not for me. Going to get this in a different format.

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

I cannot make it further throught this book. It seems well-written, if a bit dense. But I'm struggling to see it working for me as a book as it seems too dry and text bookish to be very engaging and too triggering to be a roadmap for anyone trying to work through trauma. Maybe it is for those who are casual observers of others trauma? I'm unsure.

But with the above thoughts in mind, finding out about the alleged abuse that led to the author being let go from a position of power, and the tone of academic elitism... This book is a solid DNF for me.

Decided to buy this book and will be reading it as a physical read. I enjoyed the narrators voice, but I think keeping track of multiple characters so I can speak to them at my bookclub will be added by a copy I can annotate and see the names spelled out.

I absolutely was loving this book and then I somehow missed a time jump and I don't know who is talking anymore. I love the authors voice, but she doesn't give different voices to characters in any way and there are no pauses to indicate page breaks or anything.

So anywho, I put it on hold to get it as an ebook and will very much look forward to when I get my hands on it!

This book is just... not readable. I have less then 0% interest in it and am thoroughly confused as to how I ever thought I had interest in it... I must have thought it was a different book then it is.

Like... It's not bad. It's just... Very religious and I'm not really invested in anything it is going on and on about 🙈
I like the narrator and it's nice background noise... But I don't feel like I'm getting anything else from it?

The Kiss Quotient

I cannot express how off-putting a book post 2018 using the term "Asperger's" is. I could excuse characters using the term. But the actual book synopsis not using the actual diagnosis term is frustrating.

But I pushed on... And then I hit the main character having the most ridiculous in-office conversation with a sleeze of a man. I didn't get how non of her thoughts/dialogue seemed to register being uncomfortable with the hr violation of a man who pushed into her office. Then I was perplexed by her going "maybe he is right that I need to have more sex".... And then she looked up male escort services on her WORK COMPUTER?!?

Color that all by her references to her her work are vague and clearly the author knows nothing of the tech world... And that she seems to not have any internal motivation for what the books plot is... I just cannot.

Doesn't help that when I hit the male escorts narrative he clearly feels forced to do his work for the money. How fun that neither of the protagonists are actually into what the plot is doing to them. Yuck.
