GIMME BOOK TWO.

A friend asked me to buddy read this one with her and we both devoured it over the course of a weekend. It was pitched as a fourth wing but with wolves and I gotta say, that actually tracks (but it is not a copycat, do not fear). I loved that this wasn’t a shifter book, the humans bond with wolves in this military-esque fantasy romance that had me locked in.
I love a complicated romantic plot line. I love enjoying the journey of tiny moments and quiet moments, the angry proclamations and the jaw dropping reveals. I got it all here. If you’re reading this without reading the summary, skip it and just go read it!! Trust me!!
Even more surprising was the fact that I was blindsided by a few of the reveals (a few I could see coming, but wasn’t mad about). ANYWAYS, I loved all the twists and turns. There’s a good level of politicking mixed in with action and there’s a ball??? I mean come on, I had to read this book.
The ending left me without breath and begging for the next book. AHHHHHH.
Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: strong
- Romance: 4-5 open door
- Violence: very high
- Content warnings: high levels of blood/gore/violence, kidnapped children, loss of loved ones, murder

The body image content and themes in this book found their way to the depths of my soul. It was hard to read at times but gosh I loved the truths explored and the conversations that were had. This felt like more than a romance and truly impacted the way I think about myself.
But don’t worry, I was obsessed with the romance too. And the fact that this is about the Coast Guard?? Give me more stories with them!!! I loved Hutch’s demeanor and quirks. The goodness radiated from him and it was just the sweetest romance.
And I loved the quirky nature of Katie. She’s spunky and lacking in some self-awareness and I loved her journey. Her quips made me laugh out loud multiple times and she was an easy character to love and support. There were man y side characters that earned my love and strong friendships that I appreciated seeing too.
If you’re curious about my 1/2 star deduction. I think Hutch’s storyline with his brother took over a bit too much in the second half (with some specific moments that had me flustered). The closing scenes and moments were great though and I had a good time listening to this book today.
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: low
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: mild
- Content warnings: themes surrounding body image (with mentions of disordered eating), loss of loved ones (recounted)

This book just made me happy. I had a giddy little smile on my face because I was smitten with Wade (who’s a firefighter, you can’t resist) and Scarlett. They had insane chemistry and the banter was incredible. It’s cheeky and humorous while also being laced with attraction and heat.
My one small thing is the plot lacked something more. It was basically Scarlett going on a bunch of dates…that’s it. Minus that, I was charmed. There’s many swoony moments and the kissing scenes will light your kindle on fire.
I also loved all of the friendship moments too. I loved the sense of kindness and helpfulness that was woven throughout. It’s a short read and will absolutely brighten your day!!
(And if you’re not a big magical realism fan this book of the series had the least amount so far, the *mop* in question was barely mentioned/used).
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary romance + magical realism
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Content warnings; mentions of a past car accident

I had a good time reading/listening to this book. Do I think it was anything groundbreaking? No. It wasn’t anything I haven’t read before, yet that also lent towards my enjoyment level. I know what I like in romantasy and this held many of those key aspects.
*I will note I struggled with the audiobook a bit because I think the narrator made the FMC come off way more abrasive than necessary and struggled on the male voices. I liked the story and characters more when I was reading physically.
The romance was a nice long slow burn. WHICH I APPRECIATE SO MUCH. I am kind of exhausted by how much spice some books have just to start the series of. I want the burn, I want the building chemistry and soft moments that bond the couple together. But also I have thoughts on the romance??? And I’m not going to be naming names at this time, I will be getting my hands on book two as quickly as I can though…
ANYWHO. I thought the world building was executed well without superfluous info dumping. The elemental magic system was explained well and I liked the pacing. There’s a fairly good balance between the slow and fast. I really fell in love with the found family scenes and the story line definitely has enough to keep me going.
Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: moderate
- Romance: 1-2 almost open door scenes
- Violence: moderate – high
- Content warnings: loss of life, battle/war themes

SO MANY THOUGHTS.

I am kind of all over the place on this one. I did end up enjoying it a lot more than I was expecting (I am a fan of Emily Henry but not a FANNNNN, if you know what I mean).
It did almost lose me in the first half. I am notably not a dual timeline/flashback kind of woman. I love one timeline an every time this went into the past I could feel myself slipping out of the book. I just didn’t feel invested in Margaret’s story. NOW. In the second half, this does finally come together and I am very thankful it did. Things started to click and made sense and I thought it brought the plot to a close beautifully…even if it took too long to get there.
And for the romance! I actually was smitten from the get-go with these two. This is the second book I have recently read that has an instant attraction vibe that I have found works really well??? Who am I? There’s something about the magnetic way EH wrote Alice and Hayden that was insanely dynamic and the perfect banter between a grump x sunshine. There were all of these incredibly soft moments, heated passion, and wanting to shake my book (aka phone) for the audacity. Gosh I love them.
I can absolutely see why this will probably be a more polarizing book for EH readers. It’s not her usual, but I do think it had many hallmark type of things that I have expected in her stories too. Maybe my lower expectations helped this succeed too????
Catch me with everyone else waiting on her next release information.
(and to gauge my feelings from all of her books, my favorites are still PWMOV and BR)
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: moderate
- Romance: multiple open door
- Violence: moderate
- Content warnings: loss of loved ones, infidelity (side characters), eating disorders, miscarriage, grief
