Ahhhh I loved this book! The banter was absolutely immaculate and all of the corny pick-up lines at the beginning of the chapters made me laugh so much. This was light, filled with a lot of heart, and I could not get enough of CHRIS.

The fake engagement trope was great. I liked the fake aspects that had to be enacted and the forced proximity that brought these two together. You can tell that Chris is gone from the get-go and I love a man who knows what he wants.

I loved seeing Mae go from intensely stubborn to allowing Chris and her family to help her with the weight she was carrying. There were a lot of great, true arguments between the main couple that I appreciated and loved so dang much. Really getting to the heart of the matter and the why.

Great read. If you’re thinking it’s a sports romance, I wouldn’t call it that because there’s no games, practices or anything along those lines. Chris is a NFL player and that’s the sportiest thing. Which was not a deal breaker for me at all, just something I noticed!

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: very little, light
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: gaslighting incarcerated and parental abandonment (all from Mae’s father), a sister with a heart condition

Thank you to the author for a gifted copy.

UNIQUE CONCEPT.

If you’re looking for a very diverse read with a concept I haven’t heard of, this might be the book for you! I loved the compass idea and how this book looked into MANY types of love situations. From love of a friend, companion, partner, self and more. I enjoyed finding out each person’s story.

There was a looooot of POV’s though. I think I counted 12?? And that really didn’t feel necessary. I feel like the author was trying to make sure we saw every single angle, but it took me awhile to remember who was who and which story line and everything in between.

I liked how short and fast the chapters were. And this isn’t a FANTASY book. More of a urban fantasy + magical realism kind of vibe. I didn’t mind, as I thought it functioned well within the world built around these compasses and the Roman gods. I loooove meddling gods and look forward to hopefully seeing more of them too.

The writing was fantastic. I had set out to read x amount of pages a day, and proceeded to find something continually wanting to pick it up. It was an engaging story and after that ending I NEED ANSWERS.

Overall audience notes:
- Urban Fantasy / Magical Realism
- Language: low
- Romance: Kisses
- Violence: moderate
- Trigger/Content Warnings: sexual assault, suicidal thoughts, death of loved ones, a religious cult, self-harm off page, homophobia, emotional abuse

GOOD START.

I really love how unique Kylie Lee Baker’s stories are. I love the historical aspects (and the notes about them at the end!), the diverse cast and how it’s a lot more main character focused over a romance (though I admit to wanting the romance to be a bit more woven in here).

The alchemical aspects were cool and I appreciated that I could follow along with the magic system. It’s complex, yet manageable and all of the morally gray decisions are thrown in to make this a dark tale.

There were some good twists, lots of monsters (gruesome book folks!), and complicated family dynamics to keep the pages turning. The historical and fantasy combination is one of my absolute favorite genre blend and the storytelling is fantastic. Looking forward to book two!!

Overall audience notes:
- YA Dark Fantasy
- Language: very little
- Romance: make-out
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: blood/gore depiction, murder, loss of life, loss of family, kidnapping and torture, creature attacks, weapons violence, medical experimentation

NOTHING MAJOR.

I will first say though that I am very well versed in athletic training and I was going to have a big issue if this was misconstrued. BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW. It wasn’t. And I super appreciate the author clearly being knowledgeable about the subject. Added another level of enjoyment for me.

The romance grew on me. Though I felt overall a bit meh towards it. I don’t know, some kind of lack of chemistry? I loved that there were great conversations and some really sweet moments and I just wish I could pin down that last missing component. I think the entire book needed MORE romance. It read a bit like women’s fiction (which is fine, but not what I was after when I picked this up).

I adored all of the side characters from the other teachers, to the students, and especially Sophie’s Dad. There’s cute and heartfelt moments mixed in with the pain of an aging parent and losing the job you loved. I thought the ending wrapped things up well and I was smitten with the sweetness.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: a little strong
- Romance: closed door
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: a Dad with Parkinson’s, allusions towards an abusive father

AMAZING SEQUEL.

I just don’t have any big notes on this and I’m all for the vibes of a great fantasy. So here’s five stars, please check out this series ASAP.

I looooved the way this was set-up. Getting to see Petra really come into her own as a Queen. It’s a bit of a stumble, back pedaling, and pushing forward that I love seeing in characters. I love the ups and down. Petra is full of fire and resentment and I thought it progressed amazingly well to see how she worked through heavy emotions and betrayals.

The romance is another major slow burn and I LOVED the way the author handled it. I really appreciate when I feel like physicality isn’t used to add pages, but to bring a couple closer together and move the plot forward. This was that case and I smitten with how things are working out and I can’t wait to see how they continue.

Miles has my whole heart (and I can’t wait for his novella!!!). This whole side cast has my heart in fact. It’s a well built world, I think the magic system and meddling gods is intriguing. There’s flashback chapters that actually provide necessary information and aren’t a waste whatsoever. I flew through this. Give me more.

Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: heavy & strong
- Romance: 2 open door; moderate explicit
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: sexual assault, kidnapping, murder, major loss of life, battle themes, blood/gore depiction

SCANDALOUS.

Another great read for this series. I love the whole vibe of these historical romances. They’re humorous and on the lighter side while still covering some solid character growth and plot arcs.

This book is a love triangle (if that wasn’t obvious) and I actually didn’t mind it all that much. There’s good push and pull but at the same time, I did feel like there was a clear choice from the beginning and VERY happy that it went the way I hoped. There were lots of good sweet moments and I adored the ending!!

I thought Eliza was a beautiful character. Flawed, weighed down by duty and in need of a fresh start. She definitely went through plenty of emotional turmoil to get there, BUT get there she did and that’s what we want. I hope there’s going to be another book in this series!

Overall audience notes:
- Historical Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of a spouse (recounted)

ADORED.

A highly enjoyable sweet romance y’all. I had such a good time reading it and already adore the set-up and characters and am excited for the next book!

I thought Poppy and Mack’s friends to lovers romance worked well. You could see the chemistry from the start and the banter had me smiling. I looove the way heat was included without spice (it is in the sweet category!). I felt this romance and the connection between them. I was just as desperate as them to get to that first kiss. I also liked the way the third act was handled. It came off as a necessity while allowing for growth and new understandings.

The small town plot was one of my favorites. I loved all of the back country vibes and I absolutely loved that Mack was an electrician. Way to show off a career I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a romance novel. There were a few minor plot / writing quirks that I didn’t jive with, but it didn’t ruin the book in any way for me. This was exactly what I needed and I loved Poppy and Mack’s story!

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: very little and light
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of a parent (recounted), parental abandonment (recounted), cheating (previous relationship)

I enjoyed this novella! Lots of action. I love this author's writing style.

 BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

I don’t even want to write this review. I am incredibly frustrated by this one.

First of all, why did we spend so much time with Dante? He’s THE FREAKING WORST. And took up way too many pages with his over the top dramatics and trying way too hard to be a villain. It didn’t work. I missed Lore.

Lore is the only aspect I remember liking. I enjoyed his possessive and protective side, per usual. Aaaaand that’s about it.

Fallon got on my nerves some more. And the plot took a bunch of random directions with info dumping (in this, the third book mind you) to try to create more story??? I don’t know. I was confused. Disconnected. And just begging this book to be over.

And now that I know who the spin-off is about I thought it was an odd choice too? I wanted to be able to say, read this series, and now I feel like I can’t say that. Books one and two were very enjoyable. This one left me wanting in about 100 different ways.

Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: heavy and strong
- Romance: 3-4 open; high explicit
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of life, murder, physical/magical/weapons violence, small battle themes
