INTRIGUING.

This one took a bit for me to get into. The dark academia vibes are without a doubt there, the pacing was just a bit off. I loved the magic system. The tide magic is really cool and I’m curious about the gods aspects and how those will play into future books. There’s hidden dangers, uncontrolled magic, and secret societies.

I liked that this had two POV’s and you got to see different sides of the general plot. I enjoyed both main characters, Emory and Baz and am super interested in knowing how their story continues to play out. I feel like just enough of the world was hidden to make you want more without leaving a total sense of confusion about what’s happening.

Overall audience notes:
- YA Dark Academia
- Language: moderately strong
- Romance: one closed door
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: murder, attempted murder, loss of life, torture
fast-paced

No surprises here, another Catherine Cowles book, another five stars. I LOVED this one. I’ve been waiting for Roan’s story and it did not disappoint. I loved the way the grump and sunshine played off here and that you really got to see that soft side of Roan truly come out.

And the nicknames??? Oh they were absolutely fitting and I melted every time I heard them. SO FLIPPIN’ SWEET. I love a unique nickname and Roan had some good ones. I thought the romantic pacing was great and I just felt all the things for both of them. I loved Aspen and her strong and kind nature. Both of them together was a match y’all. I am obsessed with this whole family and love that we got to see so much of them and Cady?? she was the sweetest soul around and I loved her relationship with Roan.

Once again the suspense elements totally got me. I was SURE of who it was. I just KNEW IT…and I was wrong. Got a good laugh at myself and was happily loving the chaos the twist turned up. These books are such gems and I love mixing up my usual reads because Cowles never lets me down.

Overall audience notes:
- Romantic Suspense
- Language: some strong
- Romance: 3 brief open
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: murder, attempted murder, multiple animal mutilations, kidnapping, physical altercations, gun violence, bullying

I wanted to enjoy this, I really did, but this entire book just felt ANGRY. Which then made me angry and then I wanted it to be over quick. I thought that the main character spent so much energy being upset over so many aspects of her life that it was draining her and that made it a pill to read.

There were some moments of the romance that I liked and parts of the second half were better than the first. But nothing stands out as truly something I enjoyed. I didn’t understand why some of the side plots were there. I don’t think the witchy/magic system played into the story well. And now I’m ready to move on to another book and not think about this one again.

Overall audience notes:
- Magical Realism Romance
- Language: strong
- Romance: 2-3 open door
- Violence: moderate
- Trigger/Content Warnings: Threats of revenge pornography, domestic abuse recounted, parental abandonment, death of a parent/sibling recounted
medium-paced

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.

This was exactly what I needed when I picked it up. I was misty eyed finishing those last few pages because this book held so much goodness and powerful themes and that raw human nature of coping with grief and the battering your faith can take sometimes.

I ADORED Charlotte. I loved that she was a take charge type of character and that she knew what she wanted. And Alec? SMITTEN doesn’t even begin to cover it. I felt deeply for his soul and the struggles he was working through. I loved every single moment of their romance. From getting off on the wrong foot, to finding true friendship and falling into that soulmate kind of love.

This was beautiful. I already want to read it again so I can highlight many lines and pages. I love the way Heidi Kimball presented the faith elements and how profound the characters are. The general them of second chances was scattered throughout and with many of the side characters. My heart was fit to burst reading this y’all.

Another incredible book by one of my favorite historical authors.

Overall audience notes:

- Romance: toe curling kisses
- Violence: moderate
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of a spouse, mentions of epidemics, depictions of grief/depression, loss of loved ones

I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve read a Tricia Levenseller book and this reminded me of why she’s one of my favorite young adult authors. I absolutely loved this story.

I loved seeing the growth in Sorinda as she had to break out of standing in the background to being the captain of a ship. Her ups and downs were inspiring and I liked seeing the inner battle Sorinda showcased as the plot progressed. Those ending action scenes were incredible and really brought the story full circle.

The sub-plot romance worked perfectly too. Some enemies to lovers vibes with Kearan. While also confessing the darkest parts of their souls as both learned to be open. There’s some good swoon and passion too.

I liked the plot, the high seas adventure, getting to see a little bit of Alosa again, the themes and everything in between.

Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy + Romance
- Language: low
- Romance: heated kisses
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of loved ones, near death experiences, physical/magical altercations, blood/gore depiction

I love love love this world building. It was my favorite aspect and I thought it was so interesting and perfectly complex. The layered worlds and gods and mortals and elves. I loved it all. I was continually fascinated at the construction and I thought the magic system worked well along side the story too.

Karys was a great FMC. I love characters that are strong, but also make mistakes and work towards making amends. Karys is open to new information about those around her and allowing her choices to come from a better stance. I loved watching her grow and with that ending I’m sure there’s more awesomeness to come.

The romance had one tiny thing I wished for more of. THEM. I felt the first half lacked general communication between Karys and Draveryn and I was hoping for a bit more before the physical aspects of the relationship started. They did really grow on me and I love how passionate they are about each other. There’s some [hopeful] foreshadowing that I can’t wait to see pan out in the sequel.

Fantastic side characters (as always) from S.M. Gaither. Even adding in more lovable creature friends too. Another wonderful fantasy romance by one of my favorite authors. I’m very excited to continue this series!

Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: low
- Romance: 3-4 open door
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: death, battle themes, emotional abuse/manipulation

First, hats off to the audio production. I loved that this was full cast with sound effects. Really brought up the sinister vibes and creeped me out in the way you hope a thriller accomplishes.

I couldn’t believe half the things I was hearing as this story unfolded. It was twisted, a bit dark, and I was very intrigued to see the fallout. I feel like there is SO MUCH that could be unpacked here and watching the lines crisscross and blur kept me on edge.

It did feel a little slow for me towards the end when the reveals started happening. I hit this mindset where I was thinking, stop beating around the bush and just tell me. Which is probably why I’m not a huge thriller reader. But I’m definitely not mad I picked this one up, I thought it was worth the hype I’ve been seeing.

Overall audience notes:
- Thriller
- Language: moderate
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: Paedophilia & adult-minor relationships, child abuse, alcoholism, alcohol consumption & abuse, murder, kidnapping, stalking mentioned

FLIPPIN’ CUTE.

That’s the vibe of this whole book. It put a smile on my face and I adored Tripp and Hazel. There’s all of that easy banter that comes with having a best friend plus the slow realization that those best friend vibes have turned into something deeper.

The flirting was top notch and I loooved all of the micro tropes. Taking care of someone when they’re sick is always a romantic highlight. And the jealousy? I’m not sorry that those scenes turn me into a PUDDLE. THE TENSION. I loved the doctor and mechanic careers and how those played into the story. I loved the side characters and the absolute it’s always been you moments.

It’s a short, read in a day kind of book. It’s light and loving and easily one I would recommend for the fall.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: mentions of loss of a parent due to cancer, neglectful parents

I’m here with another five star read for this series and I’m as surprised as you are. I have been really loving the audiobooks and the whole way this world is set-up. It’s complicated and intricate and I love that we got to explore the world a lot more in the second book.

NOT TO MENTION. This series currently has me cheering on the villains and I don’t know what to do with that information. I’m kick your feet in the air giddy whenever Taristan is on page. LIKE HOW. It’s fine. I’m here for it. Though I’m also so very curious how that plot line will work out in the finale.

This is the kind of epic fantasy I really enjoy and I also appreciate that it is a true young adult book too. There’s twists and big action scenes. Quiet moments and political intrigue. It’s been great, can’t wait for more!

Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy
- Language: very little
- Romance: closed door (between a married couple)
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: blood/gore depiction, mass murder and war themes
