FANTASTIC DEBUT.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

This is your sign to take a chance on debut indie authors. I loved this book y’all.

I’m not a big dystopian fan, but this felt different. It was a subtle dystopian vibe mixed with all things Norse mythology and I loved the combination. There’s intense moments, dark creatures and a past that’s trying to find it’s way to the present.

I love the multiple POV’s and how it kept the pace going. There’s a lot of flashbacks that helped build the story and once I started clicking pieces into place I became increasingly invested in knowing the full scope of what happened. I really like all of these characters too and can’t wait to see how the story continues to unfurl.

There’s a romance sub-plot I am absolutely here for. I loved the reveals and the writing was wonderful. The paperback edition I received had gorgeous art throughout too and I loved being able to get a better picture of the cast. I’m genuinely excited to see what’s next!

IT WAS CUTE.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

This was a cute and fast read from Audible. Picked it up on a whim and it’s a good holiday listen. A small town full of odd eccentricities and Christmas cheer.

I liked the second chance vibes and that there was some good communication (though the third act kind of took away from that). I don’t have any intense feelings about this, just a good and simple read.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Holiday Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: 2-3 open
- Violence: low

RED FLAG.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

When I read a book with a love triangle, I give some grace to the fact that the FMC might kiss both love interests at some point during the book, BEFORE any true relationship boundaries have been created.

THIS THOUGH. Already had a committed (9 month long) relationship going before the book even started. Hence where I’m going with this. I became increasingly more frustrated as this book went one and hit that rage read level by the end. Summer was way too forgiving for way too much over and over and over again.

What I did like? All of the holiday traditions. I liked Summer’s family a lot. I did also enjoy Caleb’s personality and general demeanor. I can easily say there’s a few good things in here, but the overall story made me want to throw something.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Holiday Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: cheating, loss of a friend (briefly mentioned)

A GOOD READ.

I really enjoyed this book. I do want to note this fits into the new adult category and not young adult. The characters are 18-20 and there are some vague open scenes.

Anyways

This was a messy journey in the best ways. Grief is nonlinear and gut punches you at the worst times and this showed a lot of that. I liked that Atlas had ups and downs and that in the end of the book she had found something new to hold on to and look forward to.

The romance grew on me but I do feel like it was missing something, like maybe a little more background King?? I don’t know, but I did like many of their quiet moments and the connection they were trying to forge. The found family was tangled and pushed and pulled all of the emotions. I loved the hiking and nature plot that allowed for the chance to just let go.

It was a really good book and one I’d recommend if you’re in the mood for something heavier.

Overall audience notes:
- NA Contemporary Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: 2 vague open door
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of a Dad from cancer, grief/depression depiction, underage drinking

MONTAGE.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

This book felt like one really long movie montage where you see the main character, aka the chosen one, go from being horrible at everything to finally knowing how to wield a sword and fly a dragon and hey, Eragon even got a glow up.

I think I would have liked this less if I was physically/digitally reading it. The audiobook (at 3x) kept things moving well and got me to the plot progression moments I needed. I do like Eragon and can see the growth of his character and his relationship with Saphira.

The ending had some good reveals and that makes me curious for the next book!

Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy
- Language: low
- Romance: bad flirting
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: war themes, loss of life

FANTASTIC STARTER.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

I am 100% invested in continuing this series. I loved how the dual POV was written for this book and seeing how the story unfolded. I kept having many different thoughts on how it would all come together and let’s just say I was blindsided on many fronts and I LOVE when a book can do that.

I love all of these characters (and I’m purposely trying to stay vague because I think this will be best to go in blind if you can) and feel emotionally attached to them. I NEED ANSWERS. This was a big high seas adventure with plenty of action and some really sweet moments too.

For a short fantasy I think not having a magic system worked as a strong positive. You get the world building that’s necessary but I wasn’t left wanting with explanations of other things. I look forward to seeing the world expand in the next book.

NEED THE NEXT BOOK.

STILL IN SHOCK.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

I’m not really a thriller gal, but y’all, this series absolutely has all of my attention. I loved book two and I can’t wait for the last book!!!

I really like all of the characters. Dell, Tristen, HATCH, Palmer, seriously the whole crew. There’s a good mix of personalities and decision making skills (or lack thereof) that creates an awesome dynamic. The book has this haunting atmosphere surrounded by a small town that holds one too many secrets. I loved the paranormal aspects too and thought they wove well into the plot without being outlandish. Everything just makes sense.

My one little nugget would be what happened with Dell and Hatch for 15% of the book, I’m personally not a fan of this plot choice, but otherwise it was an incredible read. I was finishing this while at the gym and I’m pretty sure I got some concerned stares as I had a shocked look on my face for the last 30 minutes of reading. GOODHEAVENSWHATHAPPENSNEXT.
