 BEAUTIFUL CONCLUSION.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM || TIKTOK

I adored this series y’all. I shouldn’t be surprised. Brandon Sanderson can craft so many types of stories across age groups and genres and I am here for them all. I loved the lasting themes and messages and getting Bastille’s perspective turned out to be wonderful! I love her stabby personality and the way she and Alcatraz work together and provide support for each other.

There were some good turns in listening and the audio is seriously the way to go for this. Easy to fly through, always enjoyable and wrapped up everything I needed to feel satisfied with where things landed.

I loved the author’s previous book and was excited to pick this one up but this was lacking in a lot of facets for me. This felt like a book rather than a story. I wasn’t wrapped up in any of it and had a low emotional connection to anything happening.

Not to mention the rampant miscommunication, not only between the romantic pairing but also side characters too. It would have been way too easy to have a conversation about what was happening rather than literally running away or letting someone explain themselves before judgement.

And I was missing the romantic connection. Mentions of past childhood aspects were brought up, but that didn’t add to the present storyline. It felt like a false experience was being created that I never got around to being invested in.

It’s a short, quick read. And there are some good scenes and moments throughout. I didn’t hate any of the characters (besides the bickering mothers because that was ridiculous). Everyone kind of did their thing and this won’t be one I remember all that well.

 WHOA.

I really enjoyed this “ending” (there’s a book six that seems to be from Bastille’s POV???). I loved that every aspect felt more intense and there was this impending sense of need surrounding solving the problems before Alcatraz. This took some twists I wasn’t expecting and I liked being blindsided by them.

I still love Alcatraz and his growth throughout. Is acknowledgement of the wrongs around him and his dedication to trying his hardest to make things right. I love this cast and the quirky/funny aspects are still present throughout.

Looking forward to wrapping this series up!

LOVED IT.

I am just absolutely hooked on this series. I am in love with progression of both the story and the writing. Each book has gotten better and better and the way I love these characters is INTENSE.

The pacing here is slowed down a bit, but NOT in a bad way. There’s clearly a build to the last two books and I am anxious to see where those go. This also allowed for amazing character growth across the entire cast. I loved seeing both main romantic pairings (trying not to say specifics because spoilers) lean on each other and take steps on their own. This book is engaging and still has those intense action scenes where you’re not sure who’s going to make it back out.

PLUS. There were some amazing reveals that had me questioning the entire world and I love that. This world and magic system is growing even more and I love how the it’s been laid out. And I love that this book has spice without overshadowing the story. Emotional depth and connection is my favorite and there’s that in heaps here.

Another beautiful installment. I am obsessed with many scenes throughout (and my kindle highlights will back me up). If you’re now seeing this review, go back and start this series!! Absolutely worth it.

 GREAT AGAIN.

I don’t have a lot to add to my review at four books in that wouldn’t spoil anything. These books are short and ones I would love to read with my family in the future (as audiobooks because they really shine there). I love the joy these bring and how clever they are.

Alcatraz and his family are a hoot and make me smile and laugh. I continue to like the execution of the plot and the direction things are going. I’m looking forward to the next book!

CHARMING.

I really enjoyed this! Another charming and delightful read in this standalone series. I love the London atmosphere and the balls and intriguing romances that come about.

Eleanor and Thalia both had a lot of character and I liked seeing their growth throughout the book. Eleanor needed to learn to lean on others and I was so happy to see how things worked out for her in the end. Thalia meanwhile, gained confidence in her writing and the courage to pursue her passions. Add in two handsome men and this brought a smile to my face.

A few small tidbits that kept me from that full five stars, but a genuine enjoyable read nonetheless. I like the voices the author creates for these characters and the drama and hope that flows throughout. If you’re needing something on the lighter side with a bit of swoon, I would absolutely recommend this (or book one! Which can be read on its own too).

 PRETTY GOOD.

I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting take on fae and their world. I liked seeing how the magic system was working and how the curse was put into place. It’s an intriguing idea that helped keep the pace going. There’s a decent amount of world building, though I’d hope for more as the series continues because I

Althea was a good FMC. I liked that she was unlikeable and had a buuunch to learn. Occasionally she was a bit too immature for me, and by the end I’m still not actually quite sure how I feel. There’s definitely room for growth in book two.

I liked the romance, its sweet and a nice slow burn. I think this book is more geared towards a younger YA (which is completely fine, just mentioning). I’m curious how the series will progress.

 BORING.

Oh my goodness I wouldn’t have even picked this up if it wasn’t gifted to me because blehhhhh. First, if you think this is a romance, it is not. There are some kisses but the relationship is poorly built and told instead of shown.

There were some good themes and discussions surrounding many facets of fashion, tech, etc. But I feel like it was poorly executed. The conversations seemed forced and inauthentic and this came off more like everything was being shoved in my face rather than a natural inclusion to topics that absolutely should be discussed.

The characters also provided a large disconnect for me. I didn’t care what happened to anyone and the FMC seemed to go backwards rather than forwards. Some of her actions and thoughts in the later half of the book made me incredibly frustrated.

I might have given this two stars but I never hit that “hate reading” point. Nothing set me off so badly that I was rage reading, I just didn’t care what was happening either.

 EVEN BETTER.

I was one of the few that only liked book one and I loved this one even more. I felt drawn into the world and plot. And once again that banter between Emily and Wendell was still top notch. I like Emily’s voice a lot and her dry wit throughout.

I think with this being the second book I also enjoyed the writing style more as well. The story was fairly engaging and was moving just enough but also had those nice cozy vibes that I know this series is known for.

I was hoping for a little bit more romance? I felt like that was missing and the few pieces we did get seemed rushed.

It looks like there’s going to be more in this series though so I’m excited to continue and look forward to what happens next.

 LOVED BEING BACK.

A nice quick review of a world I love so dang much. I loved all of these novellas and how they were broken up. I would have even purchased this purely for the beautiful artwork throughout. I about squealed every time I turned the page and saw a new picture of all of my favorites.

The epilogue alone is also worth picking this up. It is EVERYTHING you could want from this series and the conclusion I know many of us wanted to read.
