Audiobook notes: It was Julia Whelan who narrated. NEED I SAY MORE?
Emily Henry books are just good. I love picking them up and I enjoy the journey that the main character goes on. Daphne had plenty to work through (understandably so) and the issues she had with her Dad was a connection I felt deeply. I love when books provide that sense of being seen and understanding that there is someone out there who has felt the same way you have.
The romance was sweet. I liked the unconventionality of it and how Daphne and Miles came together. The crossing of worlds and showcasing all there is to do and be where they were at now, and where they could go.
I love the magic (not literally) woven into the story of those little moments that make a life. Getting milkshakes and fries, finding a new beach to explore and loving the job you have. I adored all of the librarian content and the wonderful relationship Daphne had her with Mom.
Daphne and Miles are imperfect people with the weight of the past holding them back (without them even knowing sometimes). I loved the messy, the sincere and the emotion this book brought as the happy ending was found.
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: moderate
- Romance: 3+ open door; moderate explicit

Well hey.
I wasn’t a big fan of this author’s previous series (never made it past book one), but I had multiple people mention this one to me and I really needed a five star, and this was that book!!
It in incredibly slow and intricate with beautiful writing that brought me deep into this world, the magic system and the lore of the lands (and did I mention, DRAGONS? All the dragon content y’all). While slower, do not mistake this for not also being dark and gruesome. There is some ACTION that is intense and heated and might make you cringe a bit. This is why I love dark fantasy.
The romance was the best kind of enemies to lovers slow burn. I was INVOLVED. And in an absolute puddle when pronouncements and those really hidden deep feelings started showing up and being spoken. The soft moments balanced beautifully with the heavy.
I am floored by the ending and the things happening. I love the set up for book two and scenes I know are coming. Very happy I took a chance on this. It was just the book I was looking for.
Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: strong
- Romance: 3+ open door; mild innuendo
- Violence: high; lots of blood and gore
- Trigger/Content Warnings: are listed at the beginning of the book!

I LIKED IT.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting getting a chance to read this one. And it turned out pretty good. I’m excited to read the second book and see how the journey continues.
I enjoyed Lore a lot. She’s filled with strength and a sense of self I love to see. I liked her perseverance to accomplishing her tasks and figuring out ways to subvert the situation she had been forced into. I want to see those aspects grow even more as this series (or is it just a duology??) continue.
The romance is a bit meh. Things go from 0-100 quickly and I would have loved to have seen more development between Lore and Asher. There was initially a nice slow burn that I enjoyed. And then the love triangle was added in. I’m not mad about it though because when do I ever go for the first guy??
For the ending, I found it predictable based off of the fact that I’ve read multiple love triangles that essentially had the same scenario. It didn’t turn me off of the book but I didn’t have any jaw dropping moments either.
I loved the audio and recommend that format!

I have consistently been enjoying this series over the year and this was another good installment. I absolutely adore Veronica and Stoker. The banter and love between them has clearly grown over the course of multiple dangerous mysteries and I very much love where they are now.
This was a good mystery! I didn’t figure things out right away and I liked the progression of the story. The quirky side characters were in full force and I loved seeing a few old favorite friends too. Filled with the classic snark and inner dialogue that I’ve come to love from Veronica I look forward to seeing more books continue to come!
Overall audience notes:
- Historical Romance
- Language: low
- Romance: closed door
- Violence: moderate
- Trigger/Content Warnings: murder, loss of life, medical experimentation

Ahhhhh, this was so good and I need more people to read this please!!!
If you love:
– Medusa retellings
– A fierce heroine
– Indian mythology
– Feminist rage
– A soft monster slayer MMC
Then this might be for you. Oh my gosh I was committed very early on and did not want to stop listening to this book. I loved the combination of all the things I mentioned above and how they wove together to create this story. It is a hard read and a needed read. I loved the resilience of Manisha. Her strength and quest for vengeance and finding her family again leads her to help many and know her power too.
And Pratyush?? I LOVED HIM. He made me totally roll with the insta-love because that man fell hard. And the way he handled multiple situations had me falling in love with him myself. I loved seeing Pratyush and Manisha’s paths align and realize that they are on the same side.
This felt like a closed story line, yet maybe open to more of the world? I’m not quite sure. I was satisfied where this ended, but would absolutely read another book in this series. It was empowering and thought provoking and tackled many issues in a way that captured my heart.
Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy
- Language: low
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: rape discussed throughout (and on page, brief and not explicit but you do know what is happening), blood and gore, body horror and mutilation

This one didn’t work for me y’all. I had major issues with the writing style and plot choice. The characters felt like teenagers rather than adults with the way they spoke to each other. And how some of the side characters interacted with them too. All of the conflict came from high school students, once again, making this feel like a young adult book when it was supposed to be adult.
The bones of this story were there, but I had too many things taking me out of the story to ever feel invested.

MIXED THOUGHTS.

This one kind of ran me around a bit.
Audio thoughts first: LOVED. I loved the narrator. I was really swept away by this story listening and highly recommend this avenue for trying A Feather So Black out.
Back to bookish thoughts: At first, I was really into it. I loved the set up and the plot. I liked the main character and alllll the fae things. This had all of those hallmark fantasy + fae aspects that I love about this genre.
And then the love triangle came into play. NOW. I knew it was a love triangle and was perfectly fine with that fact. I honestly didn’t mind the bones of it. There’s good push and pull between characters. Conflict of interest and wondering where Fia was going to land. But I didn’t love that she slept with both men throughout the story. It took away from the emotional connection by focusing so heavily on the physical connection instead. I liked both of the guys for different reasons and I am curious where things will go in the second book.
Some scenes did drag on a bit and there’s a lot of hurry up and wait. And there’s a more young adult writing style, but very adult content. The vibes are there and the ending had my attention enough that I plan to continue the series.

I had pretty high hopes for this one. If you say Vikings, I AM THERE. And I was drawn in by the gorgeous cover too.
But, lo and behold, this was not everything I hoped for. Quite the opposite actually.
For half the book Freydis is young, 10-12ish approximately, and good heavens are things slooooowwwwww. I also got really tired of her repeating 20 names in a row every time something kind of significant was happening. It felt like trying to hit a word count number more than anything.
And the romance?? She meets a boy her age during this way too long beginning and then it SKIPS SIX YEARS and they’re in love??? I MISSED EVERYTHING. No way am I invested in a romance where I missed the entire relationship.
Bogged down by scenes that don’t matter, and infinitesimal plot movement, I will not be continuing this series.
Overall audience notes:
- Historical Fantasy
- Language: none
- Romance: one open almost scene
- Violence: moderate-high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: sexual assault, murder, ritual sacrifice of domesticated animals

LOVE THE BANTER.
BLOG || INSTAGRAM || TIKTOK
Two books read from Audra Wells and I am becoming an absolute fan. I love the way she writes banter and dialogue between the love interests. It’s cheeky, yet there’s so much sincerity as the romance develops that the swoon factor is also high.
I did want to shake the FMC a little bit towards the end. I understood her difficulty trusting, but I thought she’d stop running away at last. With very little change in setting I thought the plot moved well. It’s short and fast paced and I loooved Archie. The opposites attract was in full force here and I love love love when there’s lots of forced proximity.
