I loved how much this felt like SUMMER. It really made me want to run off and find a lake and sailboat to enjoy a hot day on the water. I love when a book can bring out such beautiful and engaging setting.
Having dual POV is always a bonus for me and I loved getting both Archer and Tea’s thoughts and mannerisms. I liked the instant rekindling of chemistry they had upon seeing each other and that they finally communicated a bit to be able to most forward from the past. I don’t love flashback chapters so it was great not to have those in this second chance romance. I felt like I still got the information I needed and it made the pacing much more smooth.
I just don’t think I was quite ready for a pandemic romance though. I don’t feel far enough removed from those years to be able to read about them. I do think the author wrote those aspects with care and mindfulness so that’s not an issue at all.
I love having heated closed door authors to read and K. Sinko continues to be a favorite. I always look forward to her characters, romance, and storylines.
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: mild – moderate
- Romance: vague/low explicit fade to black
- Violence: low
- Content Warnings; COVID pandemic, loss of a parent (recounted)

WHERE WAS THE PLOT?

Oh y’all, this book tested my will to live. I have a very hard time DNFing ARC’s because I feel obligated to get it done (and I secretly think, maybe the next chapter will be better!!). I have read and enjoyed multiple books for MS and was looking forward to her adult debut. ALAS, what in the world was this???
The general concept of following a hotel overrun by FBI agents during WWII is interesting. It did make me feel curious to know about more hotels and situations that happened in this time period.
BUT. This book lacked any sort of direction or true story line. And I think there’s supposed to be some kind of magical realism component? It was so faint that I hesitate to call it that. AND, the romance takes up approximately 3% of the book so please don’t pick it up thinking it’s even a sub-plot. I almost would have rather just taken that piece all of the way out.
At around 80% or so things picked up marginally but at that point I had checked out.
Overall audience notes:
- Historical Fiction (with a dash of magical realism)
- Language: low
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: racism, Nazis, ableism, suicide attempt

ANOTHER GEM.

I really liked this book!! And the audiobook was such a great listen. This had some beauty and the beast vibes I was all over. Add in some dragons and this was a winner.
I loved that this had three sisters who all loved and supported each other. The bonded family dynamic was powerful and a theme I appreciated throughout. It’s beautifully written and brought to life all of the nuanced layers of the story. I loved all of the mythical creatures + creatures of the deep. The world is gorgeous.
I loved Truyan. She’s a strong and loyal FMC who continually made me want to cheer her on. I loved her character arc and journey. And y’all know I LOVE a marriage of convenience. Tru and Elang had some good banter and there were a lot of sweet moments too. I found myself with the feels at those closing scenes!! Thank heavens for great epilogues.
Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy Romance
- Language: low
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: moderate

MY LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

This book was everything I could have hoped for AND MORE. I love that we got Rio’s book and that he got one of the most romantic second chance stories ever. And childhood friends to lovers? ELITE.
One of my favorite subtle things was about Rio’s character. There were some nuanced aspects to him that I was obsessed with and would love to see in more romances too. He’s one of the most down bad men I’ve ever read and I am here for it all.
And another moment I loved with my whole being was the COMMUNICATION. Hallie hit it out of the park and I could not be more in love with her character. There were some key scenes that had me cheering. This is how you write romance. Swoony, relatable, and with actual adult conversation.
The banter and heat was amazing. I loved the soft slow burn between Hallie and Rio. They are the definition of soul mates and the flashback chapters only added to that charm. I’m not usually a fan of flashbacks so I loved how these played a part. There were important and nuanced scenes that only added to my love for these two.
Absolutely in my feels over seeing all ten of these characters together one last time. The family scenes were everything and I will miss everyone so dang much.
BRB gotta go reread and highlight my book [again].
Overall audience notes:
- Hockey Romance
- Language: moderate
- Romance: 3-4 open door
- Violence: low
- Content warnings: infidelity (side characters), a parent with cancer (does not die)

UTTERLY BORING.

Y’all. If you catch me reading a Shea Ernshaw book from this point on please take it out of my hands and throw it across the room. I have read five book and enjoyed two and those are not good bookish odds in my mind.
I was really bored with this plot line. There wasn’t anything to it. Mysterious flowers, a dark family past, and an attempt at new love that doesn’t even end in what I considered a satisfying way. I struggled to get through the audiobook and it was under nine hours. NOW the narrator was great, no issues there, it was the book.
This is missing an edge of any sort. And better expansion of thoughts and themes.
Overall audience notes:
- NA Fantasy Romance
- Language: mild – moderate
- Romance: vague open door
- Violence: mild
