Did I think I would be saying that when I started reading this book? No. BUT Y’ALL. Let me convince you to read it too.
THV has been touted as an ACOTAR/TCP (The Cruel Prince) mash-up. I know this may be a bad thing to some, but for me it made me love it allllll the more. Many books claim to be like those classic fae reads, and I love that this one ACTUALLY DELIVERED on that fact. It gives all the vibes you could hope for, with being its own story, and that’s what I’m here for.
Hello a love triangle I can handle. This was written beautifully. Even if I made my pick once the second love interest came onto the page, I still felt drawn both ways. I had to yell a few times at the book of course, but by that ending, all things became clear and I will not hear further commentary and WHO BRIE SHOULD BE WITH.
I loooove the strong sister bond here too. Brie is a fierce force of nature who will do whatever she needs to do in order to save her sister. I love her passion and strength. Those closing scenes had me fist pumping at her bad-a self and I can not wait to see her revenge in the next book.
There’s gossipy goblins and curses. Twists and turns with plenty of action. Soft and subtle moments that will bring the swoon. Goodness, I just adored this book.
Overall audience notes:
- YA/NA Fantasy Romance
- Language: a little
- Romance: kisses to brief open door
- Violence: physical and magical altercations
- Trigger/Content Warnings: kidnapping, loss of parents and loved ones, indentured servitude, poisoning, near death experiences

BETTER AND BETTER.

Off to a slow and confusing start, I wasn’t sure where the hype from my friends had come. If felt dropped into a story without a basis for the location, world or magic system which left me really lost for awhile. Once I started to figure things out, we were good to go!
The romance brought on the heat (in a low steam way) as things progressed. I love the spicy kissing scenes and the clear pull between Sable and Jeric. Oh my goodness did I adore Jeric. He’s that dark and brooding type with a heart that gets softened by Sable and I AM HERE FOR IT. All of their interactions and banter made me love this book all the more.
The magic here is wild and I’m still a little confused by it. There doesn’t seem to be a full explanation for it so far, but I did at least establish how it works [mostly]. The world is also a touch confusing too. Yet again though, it did get better over time.
I like that this had a villain I didn’t see coming. My initial choices were there own brand of awfulness. I like the unreliableness of those kind of characters. It also doesn’t leave you on a major cliffhanger. The Gods of Men reads like a full story, there’s enough strings untied though where I’m saying I MUST HAVE BOOK TWO.
Overall audience notes:
- Young adult/New adult fantasy romance
- Language: a little throughout
- Romance: kisses, heated make-outs (with clothing removed)
- Violence: physical, magical, murder, creature attacks
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of loved one(s), multiple instances of implied sexual assault/rape, sexual assault, attempted rape

FINALLY FINISHED.
It’s no secret I LOVE the original Air Awakens series (for real, please go read this). So I dived into this one thinking I would at least really like it, and I am sad that it overall was a let down. To show you, it took me 4 days to read the original 5 books, and 2 years to finish this series.
My biggest issue was the entire basis for the plot. I never got fully behind it. It continues after the first series, and yet, twists back to it as well? I don’t know. Things became very convoluted and I found myself staring down an enigma that I just didn’t feel like solving.
The romance was great at least. I adored Taavin. He was tender and kind. Full of support for Vi, but also willing to go toe-to-toe with her if needed. I thought they were a true match and grateful the ending worked out for them (I thought it was heading in a different direction and I was going to riot). This ship was the high point throughout the books and kept me going when I wasn’t interested in the wider story.
I mostly read this to read the next series in this world (you don’t have to do that, but I’m, in general, a big Kova fan so why not?). I’m ready to move on and see what A Trial of Sorcerers has in store for me.

Thank you to Shadow Mountain for an ARC.
NOT REALLY A MYSTERY?
BLOG || INSTAGRAM
If you know from the get-go who the murderer is, is it really considered a mystery? Asking for a friend.
Besides that flaw, the beginning started off well enough. I didn’t mind the hero or heroine. The set-up was something I haven’t read before in a Victorian romance so sure! Call me interested. The further things went on the more and more I really couldn’t stand the heroine, Amelie. I think the impression was supposed to come off as strong-willed and capable, but all I saw was a woman in over her head that couldn’t follow basic instructions. Cue a few eye rolls. Michael was the lone savior of the story. I liked his dynamic and POV chapters. I love that his job was a detective and how he pursued the truth.
I found myself intensely skimming the last half because everything was TOO predictable. And based off of the title I thought the story would be a bit different. They didn’t match one another very well. So yes, this book was fine, but not one I’m going to remember.
Overall audience notes:
- Victorian Proper Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: murder, murder of a pregnant woman, physical altercations, near drowning

TAKE ME TO PARIS.
BLOG || INSTAGRAM
This was such a sweet YA read! I loved seeing parts of Paris and truly felt transported there. The writing was perfect for this and I was swept away into this story of following passions and having a summer romance.
Speaking of the romance, it was adorable. Louis and Mia were super cute and I would easily watch this movie. Louis was kind and this contrast to Mia that I loved. They both learned things from each other throughout the book and there was a realistic conflict and resolution that I am always here for.
A big focus was Mia and her ballet school. I LOVE books about dancing and this was no different. She went through some self discovery and was able to stand up in her own way. I really wish I could have watched the actual ballet scenes including Swan Lake (another point for this needing to be a movie!!).
The ending took me for a loop, but I ultimately thought it made both characters stronger and confirmed a lot of emotions and desires. There was such hope and light for it all that it gave me plenty of warm fuzzies. Definitely reminiscent of Anna and the French Kiss vibes (but, a whole different story!).
Overall audience notes:
- YA Contemporary Romance
- Language: very little
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: car accident resulting in injury/hospitalization, alcohol consumption

ROYAL WEDDING + BAKING ROMANCE.
If those two things above intrigue you, READ THIS BOOK. A great combination of the two.
Admittedly, I wasn’t loving the first half. It moved slowly. And it was a lot of telling vs. showing in regards to Dominic’s personality. He was also verrrrrrry boring. I had to wait a long time to see any cracks in that wall. When they did crack though, OH BOY.
I ADORED the way Sylvie and Dominic’s relationship flowed. It was one of the most natural progressions I’ve ever read. They were meant to be and it was so clear for each and every interaction they had. I was utterly smitten and wrapped up in it all.
At times the royal plot line really overshadowed the love story. It would turn a lot of focus onto the royal relationship and how that was going, what was happening, etc. It was fine initially, but took a lot away from Sylvie and Dom’s page time.
I love how the rival to lovers trope worked out. There wasn’t a ridiculous argument and over the top competitiveness. It worked out beautifully and further solidified how well these two needed each other. Full of romance (on many sub-plots), baking, and moving through grief. I’m excited to see who the series will follow next!
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: kisses to multiple open door
- Trigger/Content Warnings: sexism, child neglect recounted, grief/loss depiction, death of parents and other loved ones
TWISTED.

McManus tends to keep me on my toes. This was once again the case in The Cousins.
A audio book tangent: I loved it. Had a full cast and great narration if you want to read it in this format!
Anywho, what a wild web that was woven in this story. There’s lots of twists, not a ton of action, and plenty of mystery. I’m always pleasantly surprised when I’m reading and don’t catch some of the twists. One of the twists really blind-sided me and I was like WHAAAAT. So that’s fun. I tend to base my ratings/thoughts on thrillers by how well it kept me in the dark. This did a pretty good job.
There’s many, many unlikeable characters. I think I came to like 2 or 3 of them by the end. And there’s flashbacks here too! I thought they fit in well to the story, even if I always think flashbacks kind of take you out of the present plot. These were necessary or honestly, I don’t know what would be happening.
Definitely an interesting story. I was entertained and sometimes that’s all I’m looking for in a read.
Overall audience notes:
- Young adult mystery/thriller
- Language: some
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: multiple murders, miscarriage, car wreck with a death, loss of loved one(s), alcoholism

One of those reads where you question why it took you so long in the first place to pick it up.
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. One of the best regency romances I’ve read. Hands down. No contest. If you even are remotely interested in the genre, please give this one a chance. As my second great Hatch book, she’s quickly becoming an auto-author for me!
Grace and Nate had such an amazing dynamic. Fantastic banter. Incredibly sweet. They were such a match. I forgot to even note that it was a fast-paced romance because everything worked beautifully. Somehow at odds with each other, yet working together had me mesmerized.
All of the dances, garden escapes, and meet-ups were wonderful. I love how often they actually got to see each other so you could feel the romance building between them. And one thing Hatch does well? KISSING SCENES. They are swoon-worthy and fill your heart with warmth.
I loved this book. I’m excited to continue this series. Read ittttt!
Overall audience notes:
- Regency Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Trigger/Content Warnings: implied and brief attempted sexual assault scenes (on and off screen), a creepy step-Uncle who continually hits on main character Grace

WELL THAT WAS TWISTED.
What a fantastic audiobook. Really brought the whole story to life and I devoured this easily.
But also, wow, was this a wild read. Every few chapters I was surprised by who was murdered next. I like that I got the POV of many of the characters. Nobody was exactly redeemable or likable in this tale, and yet, that really worked for this story. I didn’t know who was going to do what next and I like that aspect for thrillers.
I’m not sure how I felt about the ending? I guess I thought it was be more of a punch. Instead it turned out to be a little bit of a let down. Things happened that needed to, but not in the way I expected.
Very dark and sinister. Full of dark academia and morally grey and just plain bad souls. It’ll definitely keep you on your toes. Twisted obsessions turned murderous. Leaving many in their wake.

- Thriller
- Language: a little
- Trigger/Content Warnings: murder, poisoning, loss of loved ones, catfishing, extortion, blackmail
At last got my hands on this one! Definitely dropped some big pieces of information
