WORTH THE WAIT.

Do you ever start a new book and immediately know it’s going to be a five star? Because that’s this series for me. I’m obsessed with Samantha Shannon’s writing and crafting of this complicated dystopian novel. While dystopian I appreciate how fantasy it feels (because I don’t love dystopian books typically) and all of the magical points that make this series thrive.

It’s a beautiful continuation of the series that has me in a chokehold. The years waiting for this one delivered. THANK GOODNESS. Everything is still heavily action packed with mixes of political dynamics combined with a romance that I am HOOKED UPON. I had the best time listening to this audiobook. I am heavily invested in this series y’all and I need more to read it!!!

Overall audience notes:
- Dystopian fantasy
- Language: mild
- Romance: 1-2 open door (the focus is more on the emotional aspects)
- Violence: high
- Content Warnings: torture, loss of life, large scale bombings, war themes

 DID I SURVIVE?

Because I’m pretty sure this book finished me. Oh my gosh I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH. PLEASE READ IT. It is clever and humorous and deeply felt through every emotion. The friendships are something I can’t even describe. One of the best representations of found family I have, and will ever, read.

I adore Emma so much. I love that seeing the subtle changes to her character as this series goes on. And don’t even get me started on Pierce, Islington and Hawkes. Of which I would deep dive into every single one of them if this wasn’t a review for book eight and I refuse to ruin anything for anyone. Let’s just say I have thoughts and bless anyone who listens to my marco polo’s at this point.

THE WAY I NEED VOLUME 9.

Overall audience notes:

- Romance: kisses

EPIC CONCLUSION.

I loved how this story came together!!! Multi-POV is one of my favorites and there’s not one weak character here. I loved getting everyone’s side and thoughts and everything in between.

Edmund brings about one of my favorite plot devices, a redemption arc. I LOVED IT. The heated glances and moves between him and Thea brought the enemies but we have chemistry vibes that I was all over. Not to mention getting to see all of my other favorites woven throughout just made my day.

The action and pacing come together beautifully. This was a well written and well crafted saga. I loved the nods of fairy tales, the inclusion of Faerie lands with mortal lands and the anxiety I felt trying to survive those last few chapters.

I can’t wait to see what Courtney writes next!!

 THE STRENGTH.

That’s the over arching emotion I had while listening to this book, rage. It’s hard to put into words thoughts about someone’s journey so this isn’t going to be a long review.

I think it was a powerful testament of Shari’s journey and what she went through. It’s incredibly well written and does not shy away from the deep wounds that have been created from this situation. The abuse and manipulation of Shari and her family went through is difficult but important to understand.

This helped me gain an even firmer stance on how I choose to keep my kids offline and the dangers social media and certain personalities can have on those around them.

I hope for peace and healing for all of those involved.

DON’T LET ME DOWN.

Here we are at the ending of another first book from AWZ. I have unfortunately felt let down two times over with the last book in her trilogy and previous duology. SO PLEASE. LET BOOK TWO BE GOOD. I liked this book y’all. I am maintaining hope.

The idea was a concept I’ve read before but I enjoyed the spin and take on the story line. There’s a little bit of a competition which moved the plot well enough. The romantic banter felt a little forced on the audiobook but when I was physically reading I liked it a lot more. It’s a good enemies vibe and there were enough movement and turns in the last few chapters that absolutely have me questioning where this will go.

The characters were well crafted, I do still very much enjoy the writing style and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

YO, WHAT.

This book had one moment where I absolutely shouted WHAT in my car and I love that for me. Bring me a book that has a shock factor and I am your girl. I adored this book a lot. The audiobook was great and this reminded me of why I enjoy fantasy romance so much. I will say it definitely leans into the new adult category over young adult if you were curious.

I loved the setting. I can’t get enough of historical fantasy and liked the twist that this one had. The bargains and fae and competition all aligned with the coup in progress and I enjoyed the betrayals and twists throughout. I don’t mind a love triangle involving brothers and this one had the right plot edge that I knew something else was going on and was excited to figure out what that happened to be. I do think one of the brothers was a little flat for 90% of the book but now I think that has opened up a lot more for book two.

An absolute gem in my mind. Fantastic book, can’t wait for more.

This was a sweet and action packed novella. I enjoyed being back in this world and seeing some of my favorite side characters. I loved all of the swoony scenes and seeing the connections gearing up for book three.
