MISSING SOMETHING.
BLOG || INSTAGRAM
As always, I do enjoy this series. This had a lot of talking bunnies and magic tricks galore. Fun aspects, especially added with the Queen of the Fae. I think there’s something building here that I need more of!
What was a bummer was that there wasn’t any outside focus on the series arc. This felt very inward about this ONE murder mystery and not on Wanda’s larger story. And I’m always looking for that because it’s one of my favorite tidbits (is it bad I’m still team Will????).
ANYWAYS. Quick read, finished in a day and got a few good smiles out of it. And a big craving to make an apple tart.
Overall audience notes:

- Romance: kisses
- Violence: medium

Absolutely loved getting more stories and snippets from these characters!! I've missed this bunch. If you enjoyed The City of Brass and subsequent books I highly recommend reading this too.

Thank you to Bloomsbury and Netgalley for an eARC.

This was almost a miss for me, buuuut I liked the second half so much more that I’m anxious for the finale. And what I did most love was the writing. Kemmerer is a brilliant writer and I love how smooth and easy it is to follow her story and be tucked into the pages.
This book had very slow pacing. The entire first half was dedicated to getting onto a ship. At least interspersed were some total character upheavals. I think the progression focus was on who Corrick and Tessa are becoming. That mindset really helps set the scene for how a lot of these moments occur. I wish there was a toooouch more romance, but I feel it in my bones that it’s coming!
There’s even a third POV thrown in that was fun to figure out and to see another side to the world that was needed to keep the pace for book three. I think there’s SO MANY places that POV could go and I can’t wait to get to know them even more. I already love this character as much as Corrick and Tessa so it was exciting to have that added in as well.
While it took a long time to get to the ship, I do love a good boat book. There’s the right amount of drama and intrigue. Characters getting to know one another. And allll the secrets revealed (like what’s behind the door?!). I thoroughly enjoyed how this played out and even though the ending left me going WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, I know the next book will deliver too.
Overall audience notes:
- YA Fantasy
- Language: some mild
- Romance: make-outs
- Violence: medium
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of life, battle scenes, physical altercations, weapons violence, kidnapping, poisoning

I still stand by this series could have probably been one book, maaaaybe two. But I just finished book two and I’m invested enough to see this through to the end.
This did once again, go outside my spice comfort level (didn’t affect my rating but wanted to note). Things once again get steeeeammyyyy. So if that’s your thing, here ya go!
I liked that there was a bit more explanation behind the magic working with Serene as she goes back and forth between time. I like having a general explanation of the rules of the world and this gave me more answers I was seeking. I love the historical aspects and seeing how things continue to change as Serene makes life changing decisions around and around.
That ENDING was wild. I have a million plus questions and NEEEEEED to know where it goes so I’m hoping to get back to finish this series ASAP. This book is a bit long, yet it does have a decent pace that will keep you moving. And if you love high angst moments, this delivers on them.
Overall audience notes:
- Time Travel Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: multiple open door; high explicit
- Violence: medium
- Trigger/Content Warnings: gun violence, near death experiences, loss of life, mentions of domestic abuse

SWOONY.

I looooove a good swoony love interest and Ford hit all of those marks for me. I could not get enough of every single time he and Hailey were forced together (because forced proximity is one of the best tropes out there). There was fantastic relationship development. And the best part? NO THIRD ACT BREAK-UP. We’re all adult here folks.
My one eh thing is that I basically skipped over any of the (too long) scenes of Hailey talking to her friends. It was setting up for the future books and I think when that is written more subtly it comes across better. This was a bit much and made things drag out too long.
I adored Ford’s kids too. They were a nice charming touch. This book had me smiling and chuckling at some of the scenes and I always adore a book that can bring out those kind of feel good emotions. I look forward to more stories!

I admittedly was not sure I was feeling about this for a good half of the book. It leans towards fiction with a dash of romance and I’m really hit or miss on that type of read.
Blake was the bee’s knees. I adored her and all of the progress and growth she overcame dealing with family that never wanted her. There was a lot to process and I thought the addition of Noah on her team was what Blake needed to move forward. She worked on herself and accepting what was and wow did she make me want to take on all the house projects. I loved listening to her learn and try new things.
Kat bugged the living daylights out of me. Frankly, I still don’t like her all that much. The constant mentions of her influencer lifestyle and her hatred of Blake that didn’t even have a solid base made me roll my eyes. I will admit she DID exhibit some good character change and thank goodness for her love interest too.
The ending gave me all of the warm fuzzy feelings. I did love how everyone came together to fix the house. That all the needed conversations and emotions were thrown on the table. It turned out to be a sweet and emotional read that I’m glad I picked up.
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: a little strong
- Romance: brief open door; low explicit
- Trigger/Content Warnings: parental abandonment, loss of a mother, a grandparent with Alzheimer’s

I LIKED THE SECOND HALF.

I am in a big fantasy mood, and 700 pages? BRING IT ON.
I liked the way this one started of. It is well written and the story immediately gave me Crescent City vibes. I liked the set-up and the mystery surrounding Loren’s past.
What bugged me was the weird lust vibe throughout the first half (because it disappeared in the second for a long time??). I truly think there’s just better ways to emit emotion and connection with someone without it constantly being about what’s in their pants. I said what I said. When they weren’t walking around like horny teenagers, I actually enjoyed the romance between Loren and Darien. They had some great relationship building moments. Some good, WHO DID THIS TO YOU scenes and, my favorite, taking care of someone sick/injured. It turned out to be a super slow burn with actual spice not showing up until 90%+.
I was intrigued by the overall plot and magic system. I was kept in the dark just enough to not be annoying, but to inspire to keep reading to know what happens next. The side characters added a lot of great charm and I hope to get to know them more if I decide to pick up book two. I did find one scene to be a spot on copycat of a scene from ACOMAF. And while I don’t mind vibes and some similarities, I do kind of cringe when things to a little to exact. But that’s just my opinion!

A GOOD E2L.

I snagged this on audio and devoured it in a day! I love the way Martha Keyes tells stories and this was no different. I really appreciate that this felt true to the enemies to lovers trope and gave me all that angsty banter I love so well.
The storyline was good and moved at a steady pace. I liked the rebuilding aspects (which I felt was an overall illusion to more) and that we got to see the couple from the previous book too! There’s a good dose of drama that doesn’t go over the top and seeing the villain shut down is always one of my favorite parts of a book.
It’s an easy read and I love picking up books in this genre when the mood strikes.

THE FIRST WAS BEST.

This was cute, don’t get me wrong. But I wish that the first was maybe a touch longer and that this book was nixed.
I didn’t love the drama between Izumi and her love interest. It basically created a filler point to add in a LOVE TRIANGLE that wasn’t necessary and let me feeling eh about the whole thing. Though I admit, I’m a sucker for a good grand gesture and this one was really sweet. Izumi nailed it and I am smitten all over again.
The story was filled with a lot of great coming of age discussions. Growing up and finding the right path. Not getting lost in the shuffle of a life someone else wants for you, etc. I adored all of these conversations and they felt very appropriate for the YA audience (even though we were dealing with royals). There’s good friendship learning moments, tough topics with parents and more. All things I really enjoy about the genre.
A solid read, and a great audiobook. I just think I was particular to the first book (of which I gave five stars). But I’m happy in the end with this duo and look forward to what Emiko Jean writes next!

I love this series. It is light, it is an escape, and it fun to enjoy Wanda’s journey.
This is another quick read that left me with enough mystery to keep the pages turning. I am very particular to one side of this love triangle and while I don’t mind the other, I am waiting with baited breath to know if I will be on the right side of this in the end.
I like that there seems to be another bigger arc for the characters and I can’t wait to see how things shake out.
Easy recommend if you’re looking for something new and that has great writing and wonderful dynamics.
