ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.

Good heavens. Amy Harmon is already one of my top 5 favorite authors EVER. And there’s very few backlist books I haven’t gotten to yet. This was one of them and let me tell y’all, it was just as amazing as I could have hoped for (and I loved the audiobook).
This story is full of young love, a lot of heart break, and the power of reconnection and that deep soul bond that can form with someone. I loved Samuel and Josie’s story. It has the aura of innocence (without crossing any lines) that breaks away (years later) into this match that was always meant to be. Easily found myself tearing up, as one does when reading Harmon books, and the beauty of her words.
A super romantic story. An amazing character in Josie, who’s had to do so much for so many others that she forgets to do something for herself. And Samuel who rises from his own turmoil to become the person he wanted to be for Josie. THIS IS LOVE. It is incredible.
Overall audience notes:
- New Adult Romance
- Language: a little
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: medium
- Trigger/Content Warnings: domestic abuse (off page), animal birth, loss of multiple loved ones, a loved one with dementia, brief war mentions

Thank you SparkPoint Studio for the ARC.
GREAT DEBUT.

I really did enjoy this read. I will say first off, it is NOT a romance. There’s a romantic super sub plot, but overall this is much more fiction. I loved watching Serena figure life out. I could easily relate and connect with her on finding what makes you passionate. What makes you want to get out of bed each day and who you want to spend those days with. It’s complex handling all of that and grief and I thought this was a beautiful debut within those themes.
I had two little things that niggled at me. One being, the only love scene in here was a dream?? I didn’t love that and it felt really misplaced. And secondly, I do wish there was a bit more romance!! It started off strong and I wish Julian was a bit more woven into the entire story.
Honestly though, great read. I finished it in a day and would easily recommend it to others. I loved the setting and the characters. They all helped Serena reach a place in life where she felt more at peace. And I love that.
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Fiction
- Language: some strong
- Romance: one open door
- Trigger/Content Warnings: alcohol consumption, loss of a mother, grief depiction

I LOVED THIS.

Which took me by surprise. I hadn’t intended on picking it up but the audio was out and my friend loved the anxiety rep in it so here we are!
I also loved the anxiety rep. It read true to how my anxiety tends to present itself and I liked that Felicity learns what best helps or hinders her and how to overcome things she truly wants to do. And I looove arranged marriages like this. It was super sweet. James was incredibly kind and loving from the get-go. I honestly loved that this didn’t have an enemies vibe, but a let’s make the best of this situation vibe. It worked perfectly and had me head over heels for the connection between these two.
My one little tidbit was that I wanted less Henry & Mother-in-law drama. Pieces were fine but it got to be a bit much towards the end.
I just really enjoyed listening to how James and Felicity found a way to make things work. Finding activities they both loved doing together. Trying activities the other found enjoyable and all of the one bed (still clean!!) moments were heart melting. I love whispered conversations in the dark and give me all of the comfort moments. Fantastic audiobook, great read, definitely going to get my hands on the next one.

I didn't like all of the pet names. Sweets, baby love, sweetheart. It all did not work.
No world building, I am SO CONFUSED by all of the magic and what's actually happening.
By now I should be seeing a better plot set up and that wasn't the case.
Didn't enjoy much of the characters either. And why all the flashback chapters???

At the behest of many friends I finally picked this one up! It’s biggest hurdle is the unique writing style, but once I got the hang of it, I adored this y’all.
Emma is FUNNY. I laughed out loud multiple times and the succinct way she expresses herself is perfectly written. This is a very fast paced book (120ish pages) and offers up a lot of good beginning things to further the story as the journals go along.
I really look forward to seeing more romance, how Emma is able to take control of her situation and more. Regency fans, don’t skip this one if you’re looking for something to mix it up with.

SWEET ROMANCES.

I really enjoyed this one! This was my second McDaniel book and I would easily continue picking them up. I love the themes and the characters are well written. Filled with strengths and weaknesses to work through.
The mystery element here was a lot of fun. I would not have guessed the final reveal and actually thought it was in of itself an interesting twist. There’s some intense what’s going to happen next moments that had me listening to this in one day (side note: loved the audiobook).
I thought both romances were super sweet. They were both second chance romances (with different reasonings) and I thought all of the moments were tender. Elise and Sophie both had plenty to learn about themselves and finding forgiveness within their actions and things out of their control.
Just one of those really solid books. Easily recommend if you’re okay with Christian themes (I’d say a moderate faith vein throughout) and looking for past/present timelines!

- Christian Historical Romance

- Romance: kisses
- Violence: medium
- Trigger/Content Warnings: physical and weapons violence, theft, grief

COLOR ME SURPRISED.

I did not expect to love this the way I did. I put it off for a bit because it seemed too hyped and I wanted to see more reviews. Then on a whim, HERE WE ARE. 4.5 stars of romantasy goodness.
This had a much more true slow burn that worked better for me than a few recent books. I loooove hidden identity plots so dang much. Even when I know it’s coming, still makes my day. And this kept slowly revealing Kane’s history and nature and I loved every second of it. I thought Kane and Arwen had some actual chemistry and I enjoyed the banter between them. I liked seeing them get to know each other and have some soft moments amidst the action.
And plenty of action was had! I loved that it kept a pretty fast pace with enough things going on that I rarely felt a drag. Within that though is my one small complaint. A lack of world building. More of it made sense towards the end, but I have MANY questions about the dynamics of everything.
I think the FMC could use a bit more work, but as far as character arcs go, I am very much on board with the sequence. I am soooo excited to see how book two continues the development of characters and storyline.
It was a good read y’all.

I just want to sit and read Mimi Matthews books all day. She is the QUEEN of closed door historical romances and I am obsessed.
This marriage of convenience story hit me in the feels. I adored our FMC Phyllida. She was filled with compassion and kindness and continually looked at the glass half full. All she wanted was a safe space to land and thank heavens for our unlikely hero, Arthur. Super swoony, PROTECTIVE (my kryptonite) and a wounded soul who found healing through love. And I love all of the heat that is still very much present without wide open doors. It’s tender and passionate. Everything I love seeing in romance books.
I thought the plot was interesting and I liked the little bit of mystery and intensity brought about by the awful Duke. I adored all of the dog content and how they played a true role in the story too. I just really love the way Matthews crafts stories. Her writing is gorgeous and fluid and brings about all of the emotions.
I am turning into a super fan and will not be turning back.

WANTED TO LOVE.

My thoughts kept waffling back and forth. This is NOT a bad book, and I still have plans to read the second one. There’s just some things in here that didn’t quite work for me.
I love a slow burn, and at times this romance felt forced. The innuendo didn’t hit well and it took me longer that I wanted to feel connected to them. It’s enemies to lovers adjacent but true enemies actually have some conflict for a bit before they’re already lusting for each other. It’s a series, bring the angst. By the end I was feeling their whole vibe enough and that’s probably the main reason I want to continue.
There’s a good building of found family and sibling dynamics. I love strong sister bonds and I love the way Thea and Wren took care of each other. I also absolutely adored Thea’s new friends and how they formed a connection to look after one another.
Occasionally I skimmed some stuff that seemed repetitive. There was a LOT of training and mock battles, etc. And while I love seeing a character actually work for improving skills I think it could have still been condensed more and then there would have been more time for world building and some magic explanations.

This was a great, quick novella.
Enjoyed the second chance and the setting. Characters were wonderful too.
