This was my first time reading HG Wells and I found his prose quite accessible (I am someone who struggles to read older books because the prose is usually disengaging to me).
It dragged at the beginning but once I pushed through the plot moved quickly and it was quite entertaining.
The only familiarity I had with this book was the old movie from the 50s or 60s and I haven't even watched that through but it is quite memorable.
The ending was quite bleak but the stories that led up to it were really interesting.

This wasn't really for me, it was cute in some parts but a lot of it dragged and was prey boring. I don't really understand why Chloe and Shara ended up together either

I was really excited to receive an ARC of this book after reading Mickey7 because I absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to continue the story. For me, Antimatter Blues was just a little bit better than Mickey7.
I found that the story moved faster and was more engaging, with stronger world building. I loved getting to know Speaker and learning more about the life on Niflheim. I also found the story a bit more serious while still having some fun silliness to it.
The story felt like it ended well but there was still an opening for a third book if the author is ever inclined to write one.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who was a fan of the first one, and to anyone looking for a super readable and fun sci-fi story.
Thanks for much to Netgalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC!

This was a really enjoyable YA fantasy. So glad it was a standalone instead of needlessly padding it out into a trilogy like so many of these books are.
It had lots of interesting twists and turns, intriguing characters, and decent world building.

DNF'd this book at 34% (chapter 10)
Honestly, I found this book offensive and uncomfortable from the beginning, but it was short so I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt and stick it out, see if it got better. It didn't seem to.
Sora and Jack are both very shallow characters. They're extremely negative and judgemental to basically everyone around them. I get that because a lot of the people around them seem like cartoon villains in a very strange way.
Sora especially complains a lot about being judged, yet she's walking around peering into people's grocery carts and deciding what kind of people they are based on what they eat.
Jack complains that all women (except Sora, the woman he's been in love with since kindergarten despite losing contact after fifth grade) are shallow and vapid, while claiming that anyone who makes 'kissy lips' in a photo couldn't possibly hold a conversation.
Both characters have a lot of internalized fatphobia and their opinions about their and other people's bodies are uncomfortable to say the least. When Sora described certain kinds of belly's as 'gross' I was about ready to stop reading, but like I said, I stuck it out.
It's possible this book does get better in the other 2/3 but I honestly did not enjoy the writing style either. If you don't mind judgy characters and you like childhood friends to lovers trope then you may enjoy this book. It wasn't for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and to St Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Moderate: Fatphobia, Misogyny
I really enjoyed the premise and idea of this book however the prose was not engaging enough for me.

I feel like I just read a retelling of the love hypothesis. And I still enjoyed it, because I liked the the love hypothesis a lot... But it was frustratingly predictable because the plot and the characters were pretty much the exact same?? Just with different details. Like it was still fun to read but I knew how it was gonna end after the first chapter, like every detail.

Super cute YA love story with some surrealism thrown in there. It deals with a lot of religious bigotry and homophobia but it has a happy ending

A really interesting kind of urban fairytale. I love anything that goes into cultural and religious mysticism in general because I find it absolutely fascinating and of course as a Jew I love seeing Jewish characters and communities brought to life as well.
I really enjoyed how even though there were a lot of different stories happening they all intersected at the end.

Emilie's a bit screwed up from her parents fighting and subsequent divorce in her childhood. She has an idea that love and relationships are 'safer' if they're planned, but on what's supposed to be the perfect Valentine's Day, everything goes wrong and the say keeps repeating.
It's a really overdone trope but the characters are lovely and the story is incredibly fun and pretty feel-good despite having some heavier plot points as well- especially loneliness. I couldn't stop smiling while reading and I finished it super fast. I really felt like I was in the story too. I'd definitely recommend this for a fast fun read for anyone who needs a pick me up.
Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the arc.
